If anyone is interested in NAF's Strategic 10 year plan go to their website and under Publications and then downloads, there is a PDF with the NAF strategic plan from 2017 to 2026, which they appear to be following at the moment.
It gives updates on plans for every NAF section, although there are sensitive sections left intentionally blank or redacted, but you can get the gist where they are headed.

They plan to decommission the Alpha Jet and G222 in the 2021 to 2023 time frame and will also upgrade the L-39 with a glass cockpit and new engines. They are looking at the Alpha Jet and G222 replacements and there is a timeline for delivery of new aircraft and equipment needed on the ground.

FIGHT AGAINST INSURGENCY: CAS CHARGES TROOPS TO REMAIN RESOLUTE AS HE COMMISSIONS WELFARE PROJECTS IN MAIDUGURI, HONOURS ANOTHER FALLEN HERO

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has charged Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel to remain resolute in the fight against insurgency and other forms of criminality in the country as their welfare would continue to receive utmost priority. The CAS, who said this in Maiduguri yesterday, 13 April 2019, while getting updates from the Air Task Force (ATF) Commander, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) James Gwani, on NAF’s support to Operations LAFIA DOLE and YANCIN TAFKI, commended Officers and Airmen/Airwomen of the Service for their patriotism, diligence and commitment to dealing with the insurgency and other internal security challenges facing the Nation. He noted that the NAF has continued to evolve strategies that have adequately positioned the Service to deal with current and emerging challenges. While in Maiduguri, the CAS took time out to commission a new aircraft technicians’ crew room and a block of 30 single-bedroom accommodation for personnel of the Unit. He noted that the Service has entrusted multimillion Dollar equipment in the care of the technicians and therefore their welfare is paramount to the Service. The crew room was named after a fallen hero, Master Warrant Officer Zabesan Hosea, who made the supreme sacrifice in an Mi-35P crash at Girei, Adamawa State on 13 November 2014.

Air Marshal Abubakar reaffirmed the commitment of the NAF leadership to provide the necessary requirements for the ATF to effectively prosecute the war. He also expressed gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his overwhelming support to the NAF, whilst re-stating the unwavering commitment of the Service to the execution of its constitutional roles. The CAS equally seized the opportunity to commiserate with the family of Late Aircraftman Umaru Abdul Ganimu, who died recently as a result of a helicopter rotor strike accident.

Also present at the event were the Chief of Training and Operations Headquarters NAF, AVM Oladayo Amao, Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Major General Benson Akinroluyo, as well as many other senior military Officers.

NAF DESTROYS ARMED BANDITS’ LOGISTICS STORE IN KAGARA FOREST, ZAMFARA STATE

In continuation of its sustained intensive air operations against armed bandits’ hideouts in Zamfara State and its environs, the Air Task Force (ATF) for Operation DIRAN MIKIYA has destroyed some logistics stores belonging to the bandits at a location within Kagara Forest. The operation was executed yesterday, 13 April 2019, following credible intelligence reports indicating that some of the armed bandits who had fled their camps as a result of NAF’s earlier air strikes had relocated some logistics items, including fuel, motorcycles and local arms making equipment, to another location within Kagara Forest.

Accordingly, the ATF dispatched an Mi-35 helicopter gunship, supported by an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, to attack the target. The target area initially appeared uninhabited. However, as the helicopter approached, some of the bandits were seen emerging from under the shrubbery and running away from the area. The helicopter engaged the target recording successful hits on the logistics facility, which was engulfed in flames with thick black smoke seen. Some armed bandits, who fired at the aircraft, were taken out by the helicopter. Reports from independent sources, including local informants and village leaders around the general area, later confirmed that the logistics base was totally destroyed and 4 armed bandits killed as a result of the attack.

The NAF, working in consonance with surface forces and other security agencies, will sustain its operations to flush the bandits out of the Northwest of the Country.

The Nigerian society has done their job by electing a Leader to "LEAD" the country....Therefore every responsibility lies on his head...To castigate the Nigerian populace for crying out from their suffering is very irresponsible. They do not need to know how things work...That is the work of the President and his team...So if there are issue that is where blame should be apportioned to.

doziex:
I don't know why the entirety of Nigerian society is so clueless about defense and security matters.
With the killings in zamfara state, kaduna and all across the country, all you hear in the media is, "mr president do something " or fire the service chiefs.
There is a complete inability even with the so called security expert pundits to discern, why the armed forces are so ineffective.
PMB could send troops to zamfara till he is blue in the face, it will do nothing. This is because our military lacks the capability and the capacity to wage this sort or any other sort of war.

As ecomog1990 and others have pointed out on this forum, the Mod and military brass receive an allocation of our defense expenditure, but no new or functional equipment comes out from it to empower our forces to defeat both the enemies and the terrain.

What has become of the 1 billion usd fund allocated for emergency defense spending?
Did it become some body's campaign war chest ? the exact crime former NSA is being held for.

Troops need helicopters to maneuver about the battle space. That is, cut these bandits off from escaping.

As the 3 Fs in counterinsurgency doctrine dictates. Find(through reconnaissance), Fix ( by maneuvering to cut off escape routes) and then Finish (with extreme prejudice)

Our troops also require a massive infusion of A vehicles. APCS, IFVs, Mraps and the like.

Our defense budget as is can afford these purchases. But it is simply not happening.

So, Nigerians should demand, what is happening to our military budget? What has become of allocated funds ?

Hilux trucks or innoson trucks aka B vehicles ain't gonna cut it.

Also Oga presido, while you are in Jordan , can you inquire about the weapons the king offered to donate to Nigeria.
You know, if we choose to go the begging route, we must act like we need it.

You may have a long wait as the COAS is even trying to replace 40% payment of the intended NA Aviation Helis with armoured vehicles.

“The National Assembly should change the 40 per cent second installment payment for purchase of 3 x LUH AS-350 for NA Aviation with the procurement of Armoured Personnel Carrier “A” Vehicles.

Can’t believe we are struggling with all this insecurity in the country and the best thing politicians can do is give the army less money... NA won’t give up on their push for an aviation arm sha, in a very recent interview I heard the COAS say the navy police and even immigration all have an air arm so why shouldn't the army.

By the way, that 1 billion dollars intervention fund was never released to the military according to the service chiefs, so what exactly is the status of that money ? Is PMB still dragging with law makers ?

How long has the insurgency been ongoing? One would think that at least 10 percent of the national budget would be for capital arms expenditure until the security situation is resolved.

I think it will happen long term, but be ready for many frustrations along the way grin

As for the intervention fund, I am waiting for them to surprise us angry

NAF SPECIAL FORCES TEAM NEUTRALIZES TWO ARMED BANDITS, SECURES RAFI, DOKA VILLAGES IN ZAMFARA STATE

In response to reports that high profile armed bandits were gathering around Rafi and Doka villages of Mada District in Gusau Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State, which is under the Area of Responsibility (AOR) of the 207 Quick Response Group (207 QRG), a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Forces (SF) Team was dispatched to the area yesterday, 16 April 2019, to secure the 2 settlements and thwart the bandits' plans.

Upon arrival at the location, the NAF SF Team encountered resistance in the form of heavy gunfire from the bandits. However, the brave SF personnel employed superior tactics to outlast the bandits, who were soon low on ammunition, before engaging and overpowering them. Two bandits were neutralized in the process while others fled with gunshot wounds. Since then, the SF Team has been conducting aggressive patrols in the area, especially the fringes of the forest, to forestall any reprisal attack.

The NAF, along with sister Services and other security agencies, will sustain the operations to flush the bandits out of the Northwest of the Country.

They are looking at the Alpha Jet and G222 replacements and there is a timeline for delivery of new aircraft and equipment needed on the ground.

https://airforce.mil.ng/downloads

NAF has settled for 2019 budget procurement of new advanced trainer jet l-39 ng next generation. The new jet has guiding laser bomb and air to air missiles unlike old l-39 ordinary non-guiding weapons. NAF will mix total conversions and fully brand new, the body will be new mixed with old engine for conversion, while new ones will be fully new to be delivered 2020-2022. Senegal saw NAF alpha jet actions in Gambia and decided to compete, Senegal is building new powerful air force with same l-39 ng and will join NAF in West Africa flying this new jet. For NAF this may kill yak-130 trainer option, since l-39 ng next generation is very advanced for lead in 4th gen and 5th gen trainer/light attack jet. As soon as 2019 budget NAF allocation is paid out, NAF is paying for this jet confirmed.

FGN and NASS are more comfortable giving extra war funds to the force that declare and publish item by item plans of everything they want to buy before asking for the extra funding, you see their chief so bold to tell senate-reps that alternative funding should flow for this war.

Opposite is for those whose annual smart game is to always ask for extra billion dollars to go buy 'Something' that has no name or showing same old rifle that 180 million Nigerians already see everyday in soldiers' hands, na dem dey struggle and complain in one corner that extra funding is so hard to get. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin The givers know the receivers very well and each is being recorded according to his behavior with extra public funds.

Is something not very wrong with fighting capability of Nigerian army? Are we not all pretenders in this country?
