the dude earns £100,000 a week at Zenit. That's one of the reasons top clubs have been a bit hesitant to pick him up - such a large wage earner is always going to either ask for an increase or want at least the same level of pay.

Zenit want him to refund part of his sign on bonus, cos that's the only way Arsenal will pay the elevated wages - by reducing the transfer fee.

Let's hope the greedy agent and his client don't ruin this deal - if they do, it's their fault.

Cesc and Ade earn close to £80k, so Arsh should take that, or refund the cash to Zenit.

Arsenal have not agreed a fee with Zenit St Petersburg over the purchase of Andrei Arshavin and any deal is still some distance away.
Media reports on Tuesday morning suggested the 27-year-old’s move to Emirates Stadium was nearing completion with only personal details still to be negotiated.
At his press conference ahead of the trip to Everton, Arsène Wenger denied that was the case.
“There is no news about Andrei Arshavin or about anybody else that is why I cannot give you anything,” he said. “At the moment it is all quiet.”
The Frenchman was asked outright if a price had been decided and whether a deal was far away.

Since then club director Maxim Mitrofanov has issued another statement, further cementing his allegation that Arshavin's total unwillingness to compromise is holding matters back - and has even affected the transfer fee.

He told Radio Zenit, "We've reached an agreement with Arsenal's representatives about a different sum for the transfer.

"The amount would have been increased by decreasing the player's wages, but because the player didn't budge, neither us nor the Londoners found it possible to sign a contract for the agreed price. This decision was mutual and not just Zenit's."

Furthermore, he lifted the lid on what he claims to be Arshavin's wage demands. The Russian international allegedly will not move for any less than £3.5 million per season - or £67,000 a week - after tax. Arsenal are said to be unwilling to meet such a demand.

Goal.com analysis is wrong - £3.5m AFTER tax is closer to £112,000k per week BEFORE tax (40% tax on high income earners), which would be the cost for Arsenal.

Is Arshavin worth that much PLUS a £15m transfer fee? NO.

No deal if he insists on that.

Zenit is simply trying to play games- what concerns them with the wage Arsenal decide to pay Arshavin? We quoted a fee for the transfer, but they want more money, hence the attempt to paint the player black inorder to get their way.

Our initial bid factored in the high wages, but they were greedy for more cash. How shameful for a club to be demanding part of the player's sign on fee in order to sell him.

The Arshavin deal is slowly turning into the murky CR7 affair we witnessed last summer. At the moment 00:00 hours of 1st february can't come soon enough for me whether he's in or not.

The pressure is yet on us again to deliver in tommorow's game against Everton.Aston Villa's not showing any sign of slowing down their tempo as they won at fratton park by a goal inspite of the absence of their talisman,Young.Seems we will have to chase them all season

it's good to keep chasing. . . .it will keep our minds focused on the prize. The boys have no excuse for slip ups now, so they will have to deliver.

Villa will falter sooner or later, they can't keep on this run till May. I am very confident of that.
