http://books.google.com/books?id=GUc8AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA114 I found a 'reliable' source on the statistics of Igbo skin color, Apparently the Ngwa are lightest with 19% having a fair hue and only 56% dark, the abadja are darkest with only 2.2% light and 85% dark, the rest mid toned. So according to this book, its around 3/10 Igbo people who are light. hmm, my 1/20 was way off then. |

ezeagu: No offense but how can they conduct an experiment about an extire tribe, yet there are a million people and more being born day and night. I've always hated stats down on human beings such as the what race has this type of eyes, etc. cause in reality, there are over a million people here and there. The only way to get an accurate stat is if that person conducted their stats by counting everyone they've met and everyone in that tribe including the ones being born and the ones that's going to be born eventually. That's the only way to get the accurate stats. But anyway, at least we've learnt how many lightskin and darkskin people among the 232 or 132 groups in the study. Interesting read though. Provided both igbos, edo, ibibio, etc. Interesting. At least now i've learnt 17% were light, 19.1 are middle and 63.9 are dark. Dark accounts for most. 1 Like |

platinumnk: Ohh that's funny. Similar to my cousin's predicament. He's light like his mom(she's albino) but not albino light. He's like Beyonce light. Has those yellowish hair albino people have and light brown eyes. We always told him, he escaped being albino like he's mom. According to him, girls won't leave him alone especially Naija girls. when he lived in Naija, i remember people used to say, ooh he's so cute, he's so cute. Two girls even forgot over him. (don't know why girls would fight over a guy). Now in america, people call him "the mack, player" and all that bull just causehe always had some girls with him. Ohh, i feel sorry for guys like that. I don't think you're cousin is complaining about it though, my cousin doesn't complain, all he does is brag about it. Girls need to start seeing stuff other than features. |

tpia:What other posts (yawns~) My ex had hazel eyes, so I was chasing him too huh?? I'm not going to edit my words because u feel like im being Rasist towards Yorubas, my 1st bf was a Yoruba guy. U just cant accept words for what they are, WORDS. Reading into this too much abi? hhaha you are very funny, explain how i am racist!! so many ppl say the word dont truely know what it means. I wasnt in lagos to watch girls chase after him, but he told me that Yoruba girls were after him, he mentioned it, so I guess he's rasist too yeahhhhh ok, From Wikipedia: Although the term racism usually denotes race-based prejudice, violence, discrimination, or oppression, the term can also have varying and hotly contested definitions. Racialism is a related term, sometimes intended to avoid these negative meanings. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, racism is a belief or ideology that all members of each racial group possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as being either superior or inferior to another racial group or racial groups. The Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines racism as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular racial group, and that it is also the prejudice based on such a belief. The Macquarie Dictionary defines racism as: "the belief that human races have distinctive characteristics which determine their respective cultures, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others." haha girls who chase guy from where I live suck, Guys chase me |

tpia: Well it doesnt bother me, at all. Its her opinion and I for one, will not try to change it. I dont go after men, so if a yoruba guy likes me, thats on him. Maybe she worried about losing her culture, I dunno. I'm sure that thread got all kinds of negative commentary "we dont want ur men, blah blah blah" So I didn't read it. The OP' s post doesnt make her racist, probally tribal, but who isnt proud of where they come from? |

It's exaggerated. But I've noticed in most Igbo families, at least one person would be light. 1 Like 1 Share |

Ifygurl: I don't think Ijaws tend to be lightskinned, but if you don't know anything about other groups outside of those you've interacted with don't make stuff up. You don't seem to "know naija people" either because many Ishan are in fact light skinned. The poster never said "Edo," he/she said Esan, Etsako, and Owan, not Edo. |
