Usman dan Fodio's jihad created the largest empire in Africa since the fall of Songhai in 1591. By the middle of the nineteenth century, when the Sokoto Caliphate was at its greatest extent, it stretched 1,500 kilometers from Dori in modern Burkina Faso to southern Adamawa in Cameroon and included Nupe lands, Ilorin in northern Yorubaland, and much of the Benue River valley. In addition, Usman dan Fodio's jihad provided the inspiration for a series of related holy wars in other parts of the savanna and Sahel far beyond Nigeria's borders that led to the foundation of Islamic states in Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Chad, Central African Republic, and Sudan. An analogy has been drawn between Usman dan Fodio's jihad and the French Revolution in terms of its widespread impact. Just as the French Revolution affected the course of European history in the nineteenth century, the Sokoto jihad affected the course of history throughout the savanna from Senegal to the Red Sea. http://countrystudies.us/nigeria/9.htm 1 Like |

Borrussia: don't mind op,,,,edo has only one king known as 'oba' ,,,,,,,,that man sitting on the floor could just be a representative from the northan part of edo,,,,just as edo east has her own representative,,,,,, oba of benin is the king of edo state |
Re: Youngest King In Edo State Having A Handshake With GMB by nickxtra(m): 7:37am On May 16, 2015 |
arazanbal:Oga, I have not told you that the Oba is not higher in ranking to the others, but both are autonomous. Oba of Benin does not rule over the whole of Edo State, but 'EDO', which are the Binis. He only suprintend over the other chiefs as a permanent head of the Edo Traditional Council and not as the overall Oba of the whole of Edo state. Mind you, there is difference between 'Edo' and Edo State. It is however a fact that almost all the people of Edo State have a lienage to Bini. |
Re: Youngest King In Edo State Having A Handshake With GMB by nickxtra(m): 7:43am On May 16, 2015 |
sambisa5:Oba of Benin is not the King of Edo State, but of the Binis. That's why he is called the Oba of Benin and not Oba of Edo. For instance, in Oyo state, you have the Alafin of Oyo for the oyo people and Olubadan of Ibadan for the Ibadan people all in one state. Does that make Alafin of Oyo the king of the whole of Oyo state? No |

Borrussia:. Is like u are sleeping. Edo state, not a town. And u said ur lagos has one king. So oba oniru is not a king, oba elegushi is not a king, olumegbon is not a king in ajah and so on. Pls always read well and understand before u poste or comment. Edo state, not edo town |
Re: Youngest King In Edo State Having A Handshake With GMB by Deluxii(m): 7:57am On May 16, 2015 |
Borrussia:Nope you wrong don't get it twisted every township has their king and balee council. Example Ayangburen of Ikorodu is the king of ikorodu with a lot of balees too. Oba Riliwan is just the "Oba of Lagos Island" not the "King of Lagos" as people refer him to be. Infact all the local government has their own Obas and balees council. Oba Riliwan of "Lagos Island" or in yoruba language "Oba isalee eko" is so popular than other obas in Lagos while because is a King at the epicenter of Lagos. 1 Like |

DExplorer1:Uzairue is not a town/city. It is Clan, reputed to be one of the biggest in Nigeria. It comprises of different towns, cities and villages, e.g. Jattu(ikpe), Apana, Afowa, Afashio, Ayogwiri, Iyamho(oshiomole's hometown), ikabigbo, Uluoke, etc, etc. Ogieneni is the name of the chief that overseas the whole of Uzairue clan. |

mcseun1:true there are different classes of monarch, but it doesn't mean that a 2nd class ruler can't autonomous. You are using your experience of 2nd class and 3rd class Obas in the west to make a conclusion here, not applicable. The people of Edo north are not under the influence of the Oba of Benin. The urobos and ishekiri and closer to the people of Benin, than we from Edo north. |
