Sunday, February 15, 2009
NIGERIAN international and Chelsea Football Club of England player, John Obi Mikel, is on the verge of bagging a dual nationalty having applied for a British citizenship, Tribunesports authoritatively reports.

Impeccable source revealed that that the Nigerian midfield maestro, in a matter of time, would swell the number of Nigerian international footballers in the United Kingdom who enjoy dual nationalty.

Having lived in the United Kingdom for about three years, playing in the English premiership with Chelsea Football Club, Mikel is eligible to obtain a British passports baring any unforeseen circumstances. In an exclusve interview with Tribunesports London correspondents, Mikel confirmed the development, stating that it would not be out of place if he applied for British Citizenship.

According to him, having lived in the United Kingdom for sometime, he said he was looking forward to becoming a British citizen. ‘’Having been here for three years now, I’m looking forward to upgrading my status in the United Kingdom, then other things can follow,’’ he said.

If Mikel’s application is granted, he would have gone the ways of Nigerian national team’s captain, Nwankwo Kanu, Celestine Babayaro who already have dual citizenship. It would be recalled that Super Eagles forward and Everton hitman, Yakubu Aiyegbeni also enjoys an European nationality. Meanwhile, Mikel Obi’s fate still hangs in the balance as the player still has drink-driving charge against his name. The case will be heard in June in London.

Abi o!

Unknown to him, if he set up business in UK today, he will be deported because his permit will not allow such.

That reminds me of Kanu when he invited his parents to come and join him. They were refused and he threatened to write Tony Blair.

Education is good sha.

Where did you get this info from? Definitely Untrue.
Yakubu was refused a Visa at the start of last season. He couldn't get back into the UK for Pre-season until it was sorted by his club at that time.
He's only previously played in Israel.

No Sir

These are the step for him to take

## He must be on work permit for 5 years, then apply for ILR, which home office will definitely give him(provided he has no criminal record)

## he can then apply for British passport a year after( Must pass citizenship test though).

There is no corner-corner to this.

Another alternative is for him to join UK Army grin cry. he is from a commonwealth country so he can get "Right of abode" straight.

He can no doubt but has he stayed upto 5 years in UK?. You cannot naturalize with Working Permit. As it stands now he cannot play for any other club in England without going through Home Office first. Thats what happend to Yakubu when he moved to Everton.

I'm not looking at his eligibilty. I was actually referring to his
intentions which I dont see anything wrong with.

Mikel and his advisers are clueless morons

After only living in the UK for three years or even less, i am waiting to see who will grant him citizenship

With his pending court case which is most likely going to lead to some sort of conviction, i dont see him meeting the criteria!

Arrow, berra hold on to your Green Pali
