PMB was invited to G7 meeting largely because of BH activities. Borno state is the heart of their operations and the biggest loser in this whole insurgency palava. PMB going with Shettima is a good move as he is the principal character here as his domain has been the theatre. He has first hand information and will also be able to take part in meaningful discussions with facts and figures. The army, police and other security operations are on ground and Shettima doesn't need to be on the battle field. The question is, is Nigeria a member of the G7? No! PMB was invited because of the security challenges suffered by the country, other invited presidents have one challenge or the other too, and who is the best option to accompany him? The governor of one of the most challenged states. We should learn to get the full gist before running into conclusion or criticism. |

Bros, My sentiments exactly. 1. Personally I don't jump into conclusions, just because someone made a statements. Much still when we've not verified with facts. 2. A key thrust of Buhari's wishlist to be discussed with G7 leaders is security. It makes sense that Shetima be on the entourage, to give a vivid account of events, since he predated Buhari in the history of current engagement with Boko Haram and will come in handy in discussion on security. 3. The president has the perogative of choice of the members of the team in his delegation 4. The military command center has been relocated to Maiduguri, aside from offering condolences, there is little for Shetima to do in Maiduguri and his absence for a day or two is not out of place. 5. I think Ben Bruce is showing some naivity, diplomatic, strategic and politically. Obviously this is not comparable to Jonathan's shoki dance in Kano when Chibok girls were kidnapped.........at least Buhjari and Shetima are doing something about the situation.......... If you ask me, the International community already knows Borno state as the home of Boko Haram and the man who is in charge in that state would be in the best position in describing what has happened and how they have tried to fight Boko Haram, if they actually did. Fashola going on this trip suggests that he is seriously being considered for Foreign Affairs Minister - To introduce him to some world leaders ahead of when he officially meets them with the portfolio. |

Buhari has been in this country long enough to know about the BH scourge, Heck...a kid in the south west or even the south east can tell you about the BH and their attacks. Everyone in Nigeria knows about them. If Shettima has any special info on them, why not relay it to the President so that he takes it up with the G7 or is there anything Shettima will say or contribute at that meeting that Buhari doesn't know already?
