IsraeliAIRFORCE: Your analysis and the fact that some states in the SW are having budgetary difficulties has no bearing per the OP's conclusion about the SW. The GDP is what it is and it plays no part when it comes to budgets, states don't spend GDP, they spend taxes and allocations in Nigeria at least. United State's GDP is the largest in the world, but the same US is trillions of dollars in debt and they even finance their yearly budgets with deficits. So, the fact that the US bares the largest debt in the world and they finance their budgets with deficits doesn't mean the US is not the largest economy in the world. It's really not too hard to differentiate between apples and oranges.. Now to GDP itself... 1. The SW is Nigeria's industrial hub and nearly all the factories and industries responsible for our industrial and manufacturing output 2. Goods and services and financial services are located in the SW. 3. The SW is the largest entertainment hub in Africa 4. The SW hosts nearly all the corporate and multinational HQ in Nigeria 5. The SW is the Economic trading center for the whole of West Africa 6. 60 per cent of non-oil exports from Nigeria consisted of cocoa and rubber and last time I checked, both are sourced in the SW and cocoa remains the second largest foreign exchange earner. 7. The SW hosts of millions of economic migrants from other states for 1 simple reason which is the economic attraction and availability of opportunities to survive and make it financially and if such opportunities doesn't exist in the SW, Nigerians won't migrate to the SW. It's simple economics and laws of supply and demand. It's ok to dispute other people's facts and assertions, but you must do it intelligently with credible facts and broad knowledge about your own country's economic realities... 9 Likes |

tonychristopher: Then I put it is you that whatever it is you are "seeing", yiboman, does not represent the reality on ground. The approximately 1billion dollars that was generated from Cocoa exports last year alone has been captured by the FG, even though you are "seeing different thing in those places" 3 Likes 1 Share |

aresa: It would've done you good if you considered my summary. Southwest GDP can't be more that 50% of Nigeria's GDP as attributed to it from the article - Fact. There is no way one can evaluate it to get such a fallacious inference. Moreover, how does housing headquarters of multinationals translate to high GDP when the derivatives for State are only property tax from few buildings and income taxes of few administrative staff working there. 2 Likes |

This doesn't make sense, we should not engage in any empty bragging, there is a potential somewhere(maybe) but realities on ground says nothing good about us there are only pockets of developments here and there, not good enough but above all in truth we are all in this together Yoruba or Igbo both regions are horrible as against their potentials, we all should work together to become great and fulfil our true potentials. |
Re: Southwest Nigeria-third Largest Economy In Africa(ideas For More Prosperity) by aresa: 6:15pm On Jun 23, 2015 |
IsraeliAIRFORCE: I ignored your summary simply because it had nothing to do with GDP and what the OP asserted, you basically spewed your own personal opinion about budgets. Budgets and GDPs are 2 different things. Southwest GDP can't be more that 50% of Nigeria's GDP as attributed to it from the article - Fact. What fact exactly? Yours or documented facts. There is no way one can evaluate it to get such a fallacious inference. One can not evaluate, but you still managed to evaluate an arrived at your own facts anyways? You are not making any sense.. Moreover, how does housing headquarters of multinationals translate to high GDP when the derivatives for State are only property tax from few buildings and income taxes of few administrative staff working there. I listed almost 7 critical facts responsible for SWs large economic strength and all you are able to grasp and comprehend was HQ. Well, common sense should tell you that HQ siting is never directly about taxes but more about a lot of factors from economic activities to safety and security, infrastructures, access to skilled manpower, conducive business environment and active government support, arts and culture, food and entertainment which is a reflection of strong and thriving economy.. I laid down several economic pointers there so please don't bother me with any reply if you have nothing sensible and rational to dispute any of them with. 2 Likes |

aresa: Bros, I am very vast in application of economic projections and the undue favourability it creates in relation to anticipatory advantage in futuristic socio-economic and political grandstanding. The Southwest has mastered the act of churning out favourable fictitious data and analysis meant to position the region at advantage in terms of Foreign direct investments in Nigeria. The truth is that these information were never challenged during the dark days of record keeping in Nigeria. It may interest you to note that these forgery and lies have led to citing most industrial complexes in Southwest when the intended marketplaces were actually Eastern Nigeria. Having understood this economic war in five multinationals I worked, it is time to question every politically motivated article written to perpetuate these lies. These same lies were responsible for citing or relocation of many multinational headquarters to Southwest. These lies are about projecting Southwest as the most conducive environment for businesses in Nigeria and it got to stop. 6 Likes 5 Shares |

IsraeliAIRFORCE: LOL. Tell that to the investors who talk with their money by preferring to invest them in the SW instead of your SE Common, give those investors a little credit naw, they all do their due diligence before eventually deciding on where and how they choose to spend their venture capital. They know which region will benefit them better and more between the two. That's the bottom line and it's that simple. |

IsraeliAIRFORCE: Basically your opinion and I don't debate opinions... It may interest you to note that these forgery and lies have led to citing most industrial complexes in Southwest when the intended marketplaces were actually Eastern Nigeria. The Industries responsible for Nigeria's industrial activities from the beginning till today was any kind of forgery and there were not built by the Nigerian government. They were built before Nigeria as a country/before 1960. The government of the old western region led by Awolowo built all the industrial estates from Ikeja industrial to Matori, Apapa, Mushin, Ilupeju, Oluyole in Ibadan and also Oodua group of companies. Agian, try educate yourself about your own country's history before commenting on anything. Having understood this economic war in five multinationals I worked, it is time to question every politically motivated article written to perpetuate these lies. This is basically your own personal opinion and delusions with little or nothing to do with realities on the ground. These same lies were responsible for citing or relocation of many multinational headquarters to Southwest. Give us a single economic reason why Multinationals should site their HQs in any of your villages? Try elevate your reasoning above tribal and layman sentiments.. These lies are about projecting Southwest as the most conducive environment for businesses in Nigeria and it got to stop. You are entitled to even your own warped opinion of course... 1 Like |

Local Clays In Southwestern Nigeria The effect of clay mineral properties are considered in terms of the plastic properties of soils, including liquid and plastic limits and plasticity index. The values are obtained from a series of tests that delineate the transition between states of consistency. Liquid Limit Liquid limit is the minimum amount of water which is needed to be mixed with sediments so that it can flow. Plastic Limit Plastic limit is the minimum amount of water needed to be mixed with a sediment so that it can retain its shape when the stress placed on it has been removed. Plasticity Index Plasticity index is the difference in value between the states of consistency. It is the percentage value that depicts how moldable a material can be. Shrinkage Shrinkage is an essential property because ceramic materials experience shrinkage at two different levels in the manufacturing sequence. During drying, the article will shrink in varying amounts depending on the compositions and percentage of water present. Drying shrinkage is the reduction in size, measured either in length or volume that takes place when the clay piece is dried to remove the pore and absorbed water. The drying shrinkage depends on the water content, the type of clay minerals present, and the number of very fine colloidal material in the clay. The drying shrinkage is expressed in percent reduction in size after drying. In the laboratory, the measurement is made on a test bar after drying for a minimal period of 5 hours at 1050 The drying shrinkage is related to the water of plasticity. It increases as the water of plasticity and particle size increases (Murray, 2007). Firing shrinkage is also measured in terms of linear dimensions or volume. Linear and volume shrinkage can both be measured, although linear shrinkage and water absorption generally decreases, the modulus of rupture (MOR) and fired whiteness generally increase as the particle size increases (Adkin, 2000). http://www.prestarticles.com/effects-blending-refractory-properties-selected-local-clays-southwestern-nigeria/ |
