Hello house,

Please I have a question - I canceled my appointment twice and so the VFS receipt was inactivated. However, considering that the resumption date of my school is near, I want to apply for emergency interview.

Do I still need a new VFS receipt since i will not be schedulling a new appointment online, but now send emails for emergency interview?

Pls I need urgent answers. Thanks

If You canceled twice you would need another receipt because to book emergency appointment they would need you to confirm a date even if it is in September so my advice to you is get a receipt by tomorrow and dont wait over the weekend as they dont sell them n weekends

Hi House,

Thanks to everybody that congratulated me – Superbrain, OjaP, Dasleeky, God Pikin. I also wish those who are yet to go for their interview soon God’s Grace- bomly, OjaP, Seniorak47

This is how my interview went.

Lagos Consulate at around 1:00 pm

I was at the edge of the seats, the next person to be interviewed. There were two cubicles empty- ONE and FIVE. From what I had observed while waiting, I had judged the spectacled guy in ONE as “harsh” and that in FIVE “nice”. I was praying seriously within me that FIVE should call next. I later changed my prayer to “let’s God’s will be done”. ONE called.

Me: Good day Sir.
(Consular did not reply)
Consular: Can I have your application?
(I handed him Int passport, I-20, Sevis receipt, UBA receipt, Appointment letter, passport)
Consular: Have you ever been to the US?
Me: No
Consular: have you ever travelled out of Nigeria?
Me: Yes
Consular: Where?
Me: Benin Republic
Consular: When?
Me: Two weeks ago
Consular: For what?
Me: To pay my SEVIS fee
Consular: Oh, Ok.
(I think I scored a good point there by being plain, giving such seemingly unimportant info)
Consular: What are you going to study?
Me: (told him my Major)
Consular: What school
Me: (told him)
Consular: Of All schools in the US, why this?
Me: (In a rough voice, with an accent that is anything but polished, I recited my memory verse): Student in my school send more experiment into space more than any other school in the world. I will have chance for hands-on practical in my field, which is antenna for satellite application.
Consular: (listened intently with an expressionless face, then looked at my I-20).
Consular: You have got a scholarship from the school
Me: No, not scholarship, its tuition award and stipend.
Consular: Can I see the offer letter
Me: (handed the letter to him)
Consular: (read the letter careful for few seconds, and asked about a name in the letter)
Consular: Who is this Dr. AhAhAh (he pronounced the name somehow)
Me: Dr. EhEhEh (me giving an alternate pronunciation), she will be my research advisor.
Consular: What is her specialization?
Me: Electromagnetics, Antennas.
Consular: (struck like two stokes on the keyboard): Go pick you Visa at here on …….
Me: ( I don’t remember well if I said thank you, but I think I did).

What I know is that God stood by me throughout, the interview went the way I prayed it should go. IMHO go for your interview with prayer and faith. It worked. But know that if you want GOD to join you in your game, try to play according to his rules.

ALL THE BEST!!!

How much did the WES evaluation cost?

bomly,
You proved that you didn't write the GRE yourself. Are you telling me you prepared for, wrote, and passed an exam and still didn't have the slightess clue of what the exam was all about?Your case is just like a professor of English that doesn't know the definition of a "verb".I hope you don't repeat similar mistake in your next interview- not in GRE, though.

@other prospective interviewees
The strict guy is your best shot at getting the visa. You just have to be straight-up, be concise in your answers, and keep your answers related to the questions.

House, do I have to staple or gum my passport photographs to any form or not?

Also, I have just one admission and only that I-20 too, I hope its cool. Though, its too late to start searching for more admissions. But, I guess someone may be able to help with a possible answer to why I have just 1 admission should that question come-up.

Thanks all!!
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Nobody: 1:33pm On Aug 13, 2010
@ Senoirak47: NO, don't staple anything even if those vendors at the gate offer to do it for free. The embassy officials will do their job right. If you have only one admission, then go with it like dat. Don't let such issues borther you now, you've got to be in the right frame of mind. And plss don't try anything funny, try God for help.

@ savemysoul: I replied your mail 2 days ago to ur rocketmail. Anyway, I've resent it to ur office mail now.
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by seniorak47(m): 1:52pm On Aug 13, 2010
@ God pikin Thanks alot.

Again, my interview is in 2 weeks. I have a state govt sponsorship for about 80% and my personal dom acct for the balance of 20% as @ end of June. My other naira accts (savings and current) are active , old but not that buoyant (less than 100k balance), i have worked for 3yrs plus, in an area not directly related to my intended program but remotely related duties wise. I had a brief stint with a related firm earlier for 6-moths and volunteer work for a related NGO on part-time basis b4 my working years. I am married with a child. My sponsorship is renewable upto a maximum of 48months but my program is for 36months.

Ungergraduate course in same faculty but not in same specialisation; No GRE, No Toefl, WES evaluation; 3.23/4.0 and an original xcript; 4.14/5.0 ready. A sibling in US who is legal perm resident.

What are the odds?

Your views are highly appreciated!!

Ofcourse. I thought you should have known, you're not a newbie on this forum. Anyway, run go seme borther shap shap because it takes 2-3 days for it to be activated! Go with atleast $270. Check previous recent pages for people's experice at Seme border.
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by seniorak47(m): 2:00pm On Aug 13, 2010
@ Abgov; Yes!!! Even if the receipt is not ready, take proof of payment along, probably teller copy etc They can check the status online just make sure your payment has reached DHS/ICE and already on their database b4 your interview Goodluck!
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Nobody: 2:13pm On Aug 13, 2010
@ Seniorak47: You're good in terms of finances. Go with all your bank statements, even the one with 100K. If you can get the 100% fees to reflect in your acct, that would even be finer. And if you cant, go with all you have, they appreciate truthfulness. About the exams exemption, plssss go with a proof, if it's not already clearly stated on your admission letter. I won't advise you mention that you have a permenent resident holder for a brother but if asked, abeg talk true o, them fit check am for their system o. Above all, pray for God's favour, that's the ultimate.

Congratulations to everybody that have gotten their visa, and to those that were rejected,I say be strong and try again.I know the road is not that easy but is worth fighting for.I was once like you before untill I was given a visa last spring. To God be the glory everything is going fine for me.

The visa is the most challenging issue in getting to the US,that seems the end of the road ,but it is the second phase of your journey. The best advice here is what people dont really wants to hear.America is not a bed of roses.Yes there is no doubt its the most beautiful country in the world, but establishing yourself as first timer is not that easy to crack mostly on non-immigrant visa. You will see beautiful stuffs and I wonder how long will you continue to be looking for beautiful things.

I believe most people coming here to school cant really afford the tuition rate.Guy is really expensive, but there are supports anyway with good academics background.I only came here with money that would afford me just a semester.I was initially admitted into second bachelor though I did graduate prep with just three couses and now I am doing my master's in Computer Engineering.

Choose schools that you know you have relatives around but unknow to the embassy. That would help you adjust easily.Dont ever think of coming here with the great hope that working here would pay for your tuition and living expenses.Based on my own observation most of the international students that I met here have rich parents sponsoring them here. The money is really expensive except you get schoolarship ,TA and TF.Prepare your coming if you know u wanna school here.If you dont I understand. F-1 students are not allowed to work out of the school(off campus ),but you can get jobs inside the school, jobs u can use to keep the body and soul together.Though you can work after you have spent two semesters.

I am not discouraging you, rather telling you the difficulties for first timer and how you will get ready for it.Make sure u have relatives here to guide you through for the main time. I wish everybody good luck in the US

My Brother thanks for your advice but this is really really really discouraging. See, it is not every one in naija that have rich parents your hear? Most guys who get visas are guys who have worked their Assssss off to get the visa and now you come to discourage us all? I believe there is a better way you would have told your story instead of planting fear in our hearts. This is what people did to me when I was going for my interview, planted so much fear in me that almost got me disorganized but God put me through and showed them he is greater. Bros, if you could survive we too will, if things were that bad why are you still there for masters? Come back home now.
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by john4uu: 8:08pm On Aug 13, 2010
Bros I didnt discourage you or anybody in anyway. What I simply said is the gospel truth.Be prepared, have relatives here.I work my ass off in Naija to get my things done.I have passed through the hurddles and I am telling people on how to pass through it with little stress.I told u that I was able to raised only the money for my first semester. But God is seeing me through.I came from a poor home and that didnt disturbed me here.

In fact what I have said is no new to what other people have said before on how to plant yourself in the US.If many people had passed through you can still pass through.I am not discouraging anybody.I am even happy that people are coming here to school. But that shouldnt left out the truth.

Again best of luch

There is no need to get back at john4uu that way. He is not the first, and would not be the last to talk like that. Regardless of what they say or how discouraging their comments are, people will still do what they gotta do. The Lord who granted you the visa miraculously, has already gone ahead of you to yankee. And he will never stop the good work that he has started in your life, and you shall never be stranded. So, my guy no fear at all

@ House
It shouldn't be a big deal again for us to hear that life in yankee could be difficult at initial entry. I assume its a normal thing, and it's not peculiar to US alone. People moving from my village in Ekiti, would also face some challenges if they relocate to just Lagos here and not to talk of far away U.S. So, it's a normal thing to face some challenges as your intend to settle in a strange land. No matter how worse the story in Yankee is narrated to be, let's not be fearful. I simply believe that once we have been surviving the high level of abject poverty, gross unemployment, oppression, insecurity of life and property, injustice, lack of basic amenities, uncertainty about a great future for our selves and children, poor healthcare, poor governance, crippled economy and failing Nation, we should be able to survive what ever hardships these Nigerians in the U.S are talking about. I see everything as a matter of choice, determination, confidence, pro activeness and perseverance.

And as Naija guys, I know we shall always find our ways. No matter how hard. The oyinbos even know us, and that's why them no dey take Nigeria matter joke at all,  cool cool cool
