I do not need to have my wallet stolen before I show concern for the poor lady whose wallet got stolen.  True it was not my money, but firstly it is not the christian way to have no consideration and concern for others, and secondly it is not even a humane way.  Atheists can show concern too and in many cases show more concern than many who profess to be christian.  It is as if getting involved in a certain brand of 'christianity' actually has the effect of turning one to evil.

Be careful of those who encourage selfishness and self concern.  You cannot force people to stop giving their money away but you can warn them.  And me for me I will not be able to rest in my conscience if I didn't sound a warning.  After that whatever people want to do is up to them, but come the day of reckoning I will not be accused of complacency in the face of extortion and oppression.

Again, I repeat, It is not the christian way to turn a blind eye to the suffering of others but rather to go out and engage with the people and bring Gospel to them.  A gospel of freedom from captivity and redemption.  Christianity comes with a commission.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised

But anyway sha it is a good sign that they are all buying private jets. If you want to contract something you must first let it expand to it's limit. When the ultimate limit is reached in any process it is followed by a reversal. The excesses of these churches are to me a sure sign that they are about to experience a great reversal. Amen.

Let's keep watching.

It's really a shame sha pastor adeboye was virtually the only pentecostal pastor i had any iota of respect for cos i thought he was humble and he was genuinely serving God. But now he seems not be different from the rest of them.

You know its really interesting reading the reactions to this new acquisition by the RCCG.

I am particularly intrigued by our disgust, because it is, as far as I see, an addmission on our part of an ideal that is apparently beyond the subject matter's ability to attain (thus the failure on "his' part to measure up)

While this purchase has sealed Adeboye's fate as "one of us"; as one who is not as transcendent as we had "hoped"; as one who may have taken us for a ride-since he had made us believe that he is beyond flaw; as one who is, afterall just "a man", I think it would make sense for us to look inward and ask ourselves, "what would we do if we were adeboye?"

If we were to take this case before Jesus, would he not also ask those of us "without sin to cast the first stone?".

Are we really better off than this man who as some say "ignores" poor parishioners only to recline in the lap of luxury?

Social activism is great; but social activism is greatest when we examine our "internal society"- our personal struggle with sin, with always coming short when we are needed to stand tall etc.

the point I am trying to make is that as much as it is fun to point out the shortcomings of others and in this case Adeboye's, it is important to know that sometimes "WE ARE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD" so CHANGE MUST BEGIN WITH US.

@ theteacher, well said.

But let me just point out here that the difference between Daddy G.O and us is that we do not have a congregation. Leadership by example is what should be, thats why not everyone gets the calling to pastor. If he got the calling as he so claims, then he should know better. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.

Dear Hesperus,
What if, for the sake of argument, He doesn't know better?

What if this difference which you speak of is one that we ourselves make up; holding people to standards they do not even measure themselves by?

The point I was trying to make is that we are not as harsh at criticizing ourselves as we are at criticizing others.

We let ourselves off easy when we falter; but tend to scream "off with their heads!" when it's someone else.

When we sin, "it's part of being human", when others sin, "it is an outrage!"

Such situations as this by Adeboye should cause us to introspect, not pass judgements we are hardly qualified to render.

P.S. He doesn't wear a crown; at least not yet! lol

Shame to Adebayo and Oyedepo,im not surprised at all at least i now know why they are all attacking prophet TB Joshua.  TB Joshua is setting an uncomfortable example to them through his charity works, and they are not finding it funny when people expect them to toe TB Joshua's line of charity works. It is even funny to think that this same adeboye labeled the prophet a devil, now we can clearly see who the devil is.  If the so-called PFN feels that they need to sanitize their fold, here is my advise to them:EXPEL repeat EXPEL both ADEBOYE AND his competitor OYEDEPO they are not fit to be men of GOD.They remind me of OBASANJO AND ATIKU.  While the person they called the DEVIL was busy raising money to help the blind, sick, lame, dwarfs, poor some of whom are not even his members, the self acclaimed 'ANGEL' were busy extorting money from their poor members to buy private JETS, MY MESSAGE TO THE TWO ELEPHANTS FIGHTING FOR THE TITLE OF THE RICHEST AND MOST GULLIBLE PASTOR IN THE WORLD:WHEN WE DEPART THIS EARTH,WE CAN ONLY BE REMEMBERED FOR WHAT WE HAVE DONE i.e our works cry cry

I totally get your point. And mind you, they do measure themselves with the same standards we do. Thats prolly part of the problem, these pastors now see themselves as semi-gods and think others are there to do their bidding. They have completely shunned their true purpose, if they really ever had one in the first place.

This is irresponsible on the part of Adeboye. Mother Theresa would really be turning in her grave. I wonder if any of these ministers will ever walk from Capernum to Jerusalem, just like Jesus did.

I wish he would rethink this unnecessary distraction
Re: Adeboye(redeemed Church) Acquires N4bn Aircraft by sbo(m): 6:08am On Mar 11, 2009
It is unfortunate that in a country of 150 million where more than 70% are living in abject poverty, ministers of God can afford to buying private jets. A World Bank report recently put the number of unemployed in Nigeria at 40 million (which represents about 25% of the country’s population). To put things in perspective, 40 million is approximately 60% of the population of Great Britain and one and a half times the population of Australia!

I don’t need to be educating you on how many church leaders in the country do have a jet, but in any case, why does a minister of God need a private jet? There are lots of arguments banded around justifying the need for a private jet. I listened to someone say “Pastor Adeboye needs it for evangelism and he so deserves it because he has paid his dues”. What dues To my Christian friends, can there be anymore sacrifice than giving up your life for the love of the world (John 3:16).  For sake of clarity, I’m not in anyway attacking Pastor Adeboye personally, because the Bible itself says ‘thou shall not judge’. My issue however, is with the system that has allowed all this display of excessive affluence to perpetuate in Nigerian churches in the face growing poverty. The system has failed innocent men and women who see the ‘church’ as the only place of hope having been let down by their leaders.

And when I say ‘failure’, I’m referring to the lack of appropriate regulation and oversight on the financial practices in churches across the country. It is common knowledge that churches have now become big ‘enterprise’. The financial turnover of some of these churches are phenomenal to say the least and sometime larger than companies quoted on the stock exchange. The voluntary work put in by members on a weekly basis to keep the functioning if expressed in man hours and costed accordingly, is mind blowing.  It is fair to say that church leaders and directors of public liability companies enjoy almost same benefits and perks. However the fundamental differences are displayed in areas of regulation and accountability.

Companies are subject to series of finance and tax regulation and their directors are accountable to their shareholders. They can be liable for huge fines if their tax files are not up to date and shareholders can demand for resignation of company executives if they are non performing. However on the other hand, most Nigerian church leaders are not accountable to anyone apart from God (if they choose to), and no financial regulator is interested in their books.

In my opinion, I think it is time that closer attention is paid to the financial activities of Nigerian churches. In the western world churches as classified as ‘charity organisations’, and thus, there are exempt from taxation. However, the churches are still expected to file their accounts with the regulator at the end of every financial year. Churches are expected to have a Board of Trustee, who will be responsible for decision making and appointment of Pastors. Pastors are expected to be an annual salary and are treated as staff. These rules are very strict. I know the case of a Nigerian Pastor (names withheld) who was almost jailed for financial irregularities by the UK Charities Commission. He is the Pastor of the largest black church in Europe and since his ordeal; he now seems to be operating from Nigeria.

So what am I saying? I’m not suggesting a ‘socialist’ agenda of cut throat taxation or regulation; either I am suggesting that the EFCC should start chasing Pastors. But I still do feel that the excessive greed of some of these church leaders needs to be put under the spotlight. Unfortunately, most Nigerian churches are operated like a ‘one man business’ or perhaps ‘sole trader’. The founder or General Overseer is the alpha and omega. Members of the church executives/committee who don’t fall in line with the principles (whether good or bad) of the General Overseer are ostracised. There are no policies or systems in place to monitor their activities, therefore giving them absolute control.

Nigerian churches are owners of some of the country’s most expensive schools and universities. Some churches are big real estate investors, selling land to church members within the church premises. We therefore need to ask ourselves, what is the salary of these so called pastors? What proportion of the church income is used for charitable course? Who is creaming the profits made from their ‘extra-curricular’ activities? Who are their trustees? Are these trustees independent or collaborators? Who audits the church accounts?

The fact that God has called you into ministry does give any Pastor right to run a church like a personal business. And until the system addresses some of the fundamental issues noted, I’m afraid there will be more private jets to come. But lets remember that for every Daddy G.O that has bought one private jet, there are millions of aspiring Daddy G.Os looking to buy four.

For the likes of Pastor Adeboye and Co, I can only wish you all the best. Make the most of your flying trips and don’t forget that there are lost souls in Bahamas, Bermuda and Hawaii waiting to be saved. I pray that your jet will never run out of fuel (climate change permitting).

Amen!

F#ck all these sane and rational responses. What these "men of god" are doing is inhumane. $28m for a jet? If it's true he deserves to be killed. Give me half a chance and the resources and I'll probably do it myself!!

$28mil ON A JET in a country where people can't afford basic amenities is WRONG, IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WRONG.
I can think of 28 million things to do with that money.
The sad part about this fiasco is that members of his congregation are going to celebrate this like it's their success story and say some dumb sh!t like IT'S A SIGN OF GOD, DADDY G.O IS TRULY A MAN OF GOD BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA.

I hate this guy with the same passion I reserve for people like Omar El Bashir of Sudan, Bin Laden, racist white folks, shady chinese people etc.

Well we might think it is Pastor Adeboye that bought the Aircraft not so It the Church that bought it. I tis meant only for the church use, and as the caretaker of the church, his name would appear in the newspaper that he bought one. And if at all he bought a private Jet. Don't tell me he is not capable of buying one, and for those who says that why did he buy a jet during this crisis, the world is experiencing crisis does not dter God from doing what he will do, he has start to fulfill his promise and this is just the begining, remember there was famine in the land but Isaac flourished, that others envied him and I think Pastor Adeboye is the Isaac now and you critists are the jeolous ones. Also this Jet is part of his plans in having an Airport at the Redemption camp. It is for the Lord's us. and even if it is personal he deserves it, cos he is reaping what he sowed. So back off his heels or else God will deal seriously with you for assaulting his Child. Remember [color=#990000]"Tough not my Anointed and do my Prophet no harm".
