The consequences of a poor self concept are far reaching. Not only does self-hatred warp the person's feelings about himself, but it also reaches out and entwines everyone the individual contacts. These are some of the consequences of a poor self concept:
[b]It will influence your choice of a marital partner[b]
The person who lacks self respect often picks a partner who will devalute, criticize,or put him down. Why? To recreate the feelings to which he has become accustomed.Others will choose a partner who is a model of virtue&achievement. Then he will constantly compare himself unfavorably with the accomplishments&positions he wished he held.
[b]It is a hindrance to forming genuine friendships:[b]
Hating ourselves not only hinders our response to others but also hinders others' responses to us.If you are oversensitive about your appearance or what others think of you,you become unable to focus on the other person's needs. The only way to build genuine friendships is to forget self&focus on the needs of others.
