I Know you will be wondering why i have to write on this again after writing about Bride price in my recent Article.
https://www.nairaland.com/2495212/7-facts-bride-price-shock

I see this particular write up very unnecessary and i would not have bothered writing this new one but for the derogatory remarks i received from guys as well as ladies who were screaming for my head and maintained that its an age long tradition so i went into research, asked the very elderly in all the tribes in Nigeria about bride price from the African tradition perspective and what i learned necessitated this new article.

Have you ever asked your grandparents questions? Please do and ask them the traditional truth about paying Bride price and they will tell you exactly what Biblical verses say in another context.

Bride price is an age long tradition that emanated from a voluntary act of appreciating a bride for remaining chaste till the day of her marriage which simply corroborates the biblical fact that BRIDE PRICE IS PAID ONLY ON VIRGINS.

In-fact according to Africa tradition, after the groom sleeps with the lady on a white bed sheet and is confirmed that she is indeed chaste there will be another round of funfair where the guy will once again go to the parents of the bride with dancers and drummers but if the man sleeps with the bride and discovers she is not chaste,it will be the exact opposite where the lady will be escorted back to her parents house with people jeering negatively at her and all the groom ever gave the parents on the lady with the hope that the lady is what he taught will be refunded and such ladies are usually banished.

Nevertheless i urge guys to look away from the slutty lifestyles of most ladies who no longer have any form of decency about keeping their body till marriage and who have seen sleeping with different guys as a norm and just pay whatever they can afford and not allow any selfish and greedy parent extort them on a lady who have probably been handled in bed in a way you may never even handle her in your marital union.

I am not writing this to bring down the female folks but to educate them and let the truth be known. I am writing this to guard against greedy extortion by some clan who will want a young man to go steal in order to marry a lady who have lost count of the sticks that have gone into her.

There is nothing bad in paying as much as you can on a lady you love and i can pay a billion pounds on any desire to be my wife even if she is a love peddler but my point is about revealing the truth about bride from the biblical angle and good enough, the traditions we all yell about corroborates with the Biblical facts.

1. The Bible has only been with us for about 200 years.

2. Who are the men sleeping with instead?

OP,you never talk wetin dey pain you because I feel this is not the time and age to be campaigning about paying bride price on virgins only or not, why? The only tradition that seems to extort money and material gains from this bride price is mostly the easterners,in most western and northern states, bride price is not outragious and many men gladly pay for the love they have for their spouse to be,most cultures in d western states even return this bride price to d grooms family claiming that they are not selling their daughters,so OP I urge you to direct this article to the people concerned...you know what I mean and stop generalising,

This thread is about the essence of bride price from the cultural perspective.

I know why i took time out to disect this issue.

For instance in the easthern part no matter how some parts claim to be economical, guys will still spend real big not that its baad to spend big on a LovePeddler you love but its so annoying how some people will present crazy list for a lady who have been terribly used by another man or men other than the intending hubby.

I pity our igbo sisters and if they do not fight against this selfish and greddy tradtion, many of them will end up without a husband.

i know many igbo ladies in their thirties still single not dor any other reason but this same tradition that have been twisted in modern days to satisfy the greediness of the elders in their family.

Bride price is for virgins and anyman who pays a bprice on a non virgin should do so without been exploited. Thats the point.
