It is rather unfortunate that the Honorable members do not understand the Central Bank policy. The Bank has not stopped legitimate foreign transfers like payment for school fees, medical bills, etc. What the bank has simply stopped is the dumping of physical dollars (cash) in the banking system.

If one needs to pay for anything abroad, just go to your bank and you will be issued with Form A or Form M for you to fill. Once you are done, the bank will tell you the prevailing exchange rate, which you will then pay in Naira and the bank will make the transfer for you in dollars.

The problem is that there is so much 'dollarization' of the economy. The CBN policy will force those who have Cash Dollars to proceed to the parallel market to exchange them for Naira thereby leading to a strengthening of the Naira in that market. The policy will also check illicit inflows and money laundering.

You are on point. How I wish our senators Wld come on here learn what this policy is all about

Thank you! I was just going to point out same thing. The way the issue of corruption is being bandied around in this country today makes it difficult for people to realise that there are legitimate businesses and concerns which must thrive. They won't and shouldn't be allowed to collapse because we are fighting corruption!

Nigeria is not an island, other countries and business counterparts are busy too. It is this private sector, properly harnessed and regulated that will bring about the growth and diversity in our economy as is so desired.
It's not about corruption rather than the strenght of naira to dollar... Lots of business are thriving cos of this which is very bad for our currency... Note: if Nigeria would be better we all have to make sacrifice...

Its a good development as well as a bad one.

The bureau de xchange guys will suffer for this because majority don't operate a domiciliary account.

This is also the right time to buy dollars for those operating dorm account.

Someone with the right biz idea will make money off these bureau de exchange guys.

Honourable house of reps members...in as much as we want to be in sync wit PMBs policies on reinventin da wheels, we have to put into cognisance dat alot of sacrifice has to be made....which i tink dis is one of such sacrifices.
.
Use a naira "dom" account or better stil get à VISA credit card or any of such credit cards for ur "sick rela(thieves) dat need transfer of money abroad....This card allows u to deposit d money in naira here in naija while ur médical attendee withdraws in any countrys currency dey reside...

He is doing a great job. The situation could have been worse. He is also planning for the expected rate increase in the US. Most of his policies will take time to work. The Forex ban on some imported items, ban on dollar bank accounts and the local production of crude oil, jet fuel and etc will increase our Forex. The CBN now needs the support of the NASS.

You do not throw out the baby with the bath water.
Not all fx deposits are from looters, there are quite a lot of people who need to transfer FX for viable business or personal reasons, policy makers need to think carefully before implementing new policies.

Someone has already replied your post. But let me reiterate his point.

you can still get foreign currency for use. Just prove you have a legitimate claim and you would be granted your transaction.

The policy is a good policy. Even though it becomes stressful for some people to make some foreign purchases and they feel pains it'd make them seek local alternatives to the advantage of Nigeria. Plus it helps us stem the flow of our money by corrupt people. There really is nothing wrong with this policy.
Definitely a win-win scenario for Nigeria
