After months of delays, ostensibly to properly vet his appointees, President Buhari just appointed somebody that may turn out to be a total fraud. He appointed a certain "Dr." William Babatunde Fowler as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). In a news release signed by Femi Adesina, this red flag appears on the man's qualifications:"Fowler, who holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree [sic] of the Irish International University, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Business Management Association of the United Kingdom." Well, Irish International University is a fraudulent, non-existent university ( seehttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/7175730.stm). Second, the Committee of Vice Chancellors in Nigeria has ruled that people with even legitimate honorary doctorates cannot prefix "Dr." to their names, as is the practice globally ( seehttp://www.farooqkperogi.com/.../finally-some-good-news...). I fear that if this Fowler's other qualifications are looked into, a big scandal may break out. His bachelor's degree, for instance, is said to be from the "University of Wisconsin" and his master's degree from "California State University." The trouble is, University of Wisconsin and California State University are multiple-campusuniversities ; you can't just say you attended the University of Wisconsin without mentioning the location. The University of Wisconsin has 26 campuses, and California State University has 23 campuses. Something is fishy here!

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed William Babatunde Fowler as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), a statement by Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, has said.

Mr. Buhari, according to the statement, also appointed Aliyu Yahaya Gusau as Director-General , Budget Office of the Federation.
Mr. Fowler, the new FIRS boss, was the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Board of
f Internal Revenue from 2005 to 2014.

He had his higher education in the United States where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Business Administration degree from the California State University.
Before joining the service of the Lagos State Government, Dr. Fowler worked in the banking sector for about 20 years with long stints at Credit Lyonnais Nigeria Limited and Chartered Bank.

Under his leadership, the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue reportedly achieved a sharp increase in internally generated revenue from an average of N3.6. billion per month in January 2006, to an average of about N20.5 billion per month in 2013.
Fowler, who holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree of the Irish International University, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Business Management Association of the United Kingdom.
He will serve as Acting Executive Chairman of FIRS until his appointment is confirmed by the Senate.

Mr. Gusau’s appointment as DG of the Budget Office, is with effect from August 18, 2015 and is for a term of four years, renewable for another four years, unless he attains the retirement age of 60 years or completes 35 years of pensionable service.

People have to pay taxes for this country to generate better revenue, especially these high lifestyle rich people who buy properties here and there which they never use. Start paying property taxes.

Good idea. But the free oil billions, what have they achieved with them? This is a country without social welfare system, yet they cannot provide basic necessity: light, water, security, education, health care, roads, etc. Because of Fashola's "one-eyed king in the land of the blind " performance in Lagos, people were more ready, albeit grudgingly, to pay taxes. When Fed govt, NASS and governors start using our money sensibly and wisely to bring development, people will be ready to pay tax.

But the two most vital component of any economy I.e Oil board and Tax board appointments have gone to southerners. If I was a Northerner I wouldn't be too happy.
