They will never see anything good in Mr President so we no longer bother with them.

You are obviously not smart if you fail to see the correlation between boko haram and sharia. It is known that boko haram are supposedly fighting to impose sharia. The President is a Muslim who's views on his religious beliefs should be respected. Boko haram are clearly not Muslims and the President is not considering imposing sharia on Nigerians. What part of his reply was dishonest?

PUBLIC domain? You expect a President of a sovereign state like Nigeria to try it's army generals based on reports on the Internet? Were you dropped on your head as a child? It's in the "Public Domain" that Jonathan is irredeemably corrupt, going by your logic, he should be cooling off in jail by now.

I’ll meet other generals to draft anti-terror plan – Buhari

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday said that though Nigeria is a rich nation, its people are extremely poor due to bad governance.

He also promised to involve serving and retired military generals to devise an effective strategy to crush insurgency in the country, if elected as President in 2015.

You are trying to distort facts. You probably didn't watch the interview or you are functioning on a single digit I.Q. The interviewer asked point blank on when Buhari was going to persecute the nine people named in the amnesty report. What an affront. He even said John Kerry said Nigerian soldiers do not respect human rights, implying that the President should take decisions based on his verdict. Buhari is not a puppet, and we all know investigations are going on, at our own pace. Just yesterday, a brigadier-general was dismissed and sentenced to jail. You can bet that there would be more but it wouldn't be because amnesty international or John Kerry said so.

moderation2020:
President Muhammadu Buhari was on Upfront with Mehdi Hasan on Al Jazeera today and the retired general was roasted like suya on a dusty road in his hometown of Daura.
Buhari is a one-trick pony with depth-free answers to all questions – anti-corruption, security, relocating the army command to Maiduguri and so on. He tries to stick to that script and ends up not answering the questions or the follow-up.

Hasan asked Buhari if he could defeat Boko Haram by December as he claimed. He told the president that over 1,000 people have died since he was elected and that things were not getting better. All Buhari could offer was that “we are being honest about it”. He then claimed that Boko Haram are now restricted to Sambisa Forest and that they would be finished after the rainy season. If the insurgents are like Fred Astaire and prefer “dancing in the rain”, the president didn’t quite explain.
He was asked about how he knocked the former president for being unable to rescue the Chibok girls and he said he was willing to negotiate to ensure their rescue. He wasn’t quite clear on what he would negotiate with, money or prisoners. It was clear that the president had been informed about the need for negotiation, but not briefed on the intricacies of the matter.

Mehdi Hasan: has form in embarrassing Nigerian officials
The president dropped the ball on the questioning around human rights abuses by the military. He claimed that he had not received the report from Amnesty International. He was then told that the report was in the public domain. He stuck to the script, only to be told that it was not a new report. A proactive president would have asked to be given the report and then read it and take appropriate action to investigate. It was clear that the president didn’t care about human rights abuses by the military. The default position of people in this situation is to deny knowledge.

The biggest embarrassment was when Hasan showed he had done his homework by questioning Buharia on his comments about Sharia in 2001. Buhari advocated the total impostion of Sharia law, which is what Boko Haram are about. The president tried to claim that Boko Haram are not about Islam, but Hasan was having none of it. He repeated the question to Buhari whether he supported the imposition of Sharia Law. When pressed to answer the question, Buhari almost lost his rag.
The president ducked the question and said he couldn’t impose it. He never said anything about whether he supported it.
His silence on this was very revealing.

Many of you have not only closed your eyes to truth but your brains have shut down. The man answered every question with the poise of a Nigerian president. He wasn't shaky nor trying to dance around questions like our former president would. The part where he talked about being voted in by the same people who accused him of being a dictator in the military era says something of what they are yearning for brought goose bumps to my body. He may be having speech impediments due to his age and place of origin but he sure hell knows what to say and how to say it. Nigeria needs a good leader and at this point, this 72 year old man is best suited for a generation of clownish, toutish and corrupt youths

Mizmycoli and her co wailers would have wished PMB to answer the question saying he (PMB) want Sharia law implemented and forced on all and sundry and whoever denies Sharia will be killed.

Then they can bask themselves in orgasmic frenzy while f*#king themselves over every bit of PMB words. This is the only answer that can satisfy them.

Interesting.
So, as a Nationalist, he's okay with a law that takes little or no cognizance of human rights, chopping off parts of their body and executing people over "meagre" offences.

There is nothing tricky about the question.
A statement was attributed to him, he was asked if he still held such views, a yes or no would have sufficed.

When you use the words "we will not stop AGITATING for the full implementation..."
What does that suggest to you?

So all questions deserve a " yes no" answer? So now we are back to arguing whether or not sharia is a good or bad thing? I'm sure you will find enough threads about that in the Religion section. His being a "nationalist" has nothing to do with his religious beliefs. You can be rest assured he isn't imposing sharia on Nigerians. He has said that times without number and there has been nothing to suggest that he will do otherwise. Not even when he was head of state with absolute powers.

There are too many kids on Nairaland.
Immature and inexperienced.
The Nigerian Army is guilty of human rights abuses. Serious unspeakable ones but no President of Nigeria should admit it in public.
The statement by Buhari that he has not seen the report is very honest. No President..I repeat no president should govern Nigeria from hogwash on the Internet. The Al Jazeera moderator got a one sentence lecture about how a responsible leader of a nation does not take decisions based on Internet material and it was obvious he was embarassed by mentioning that the information was in the public domain. The President maintained that he won't act without the AI report and won't jail generals based on Internet reports.

President gave a detailed explanation of things on ground for defeating Boko Haram in December including the MNJTF bit of it. Maybe a little too detailed. All in all a very good interview.

If you want a Nigerian President who will tell Al Jazeera that he will try his generals (Ihejirika, Minimah et.c) for human rights abuses without investigation based on their own accusations then look for another clueless man to vote into office

Haba!!

Let us tell ourselves the truth early enough!!

This is a clear case of political karma!!
What goes around comes around!!

The same leadership exhibited by the former opposition party during the Jonathan Administration in the corporate entity called APC which was exhibited before the entire world is what Buhari is reaping now!!

It is too late to try to change that becos now, they are no longer the opposition, they are the ruling party!! Unfortunately for PMB, Hasan took a cue from that and ruffled Mr President's feathers!!

The entire criticism as acknowledged by President Buhari in the first few seconds of the interview which constituted the bulk of his party's Opposition strategy then and his entire Presidential campaign; are they not based totally on Media reports in the public domain!!??

Why will he choose to act embarrassed or scandalized by such questions??

The same General Buhari promised to jail corrupt general for looting money meant for soldiers welfare, the same General Buhari accused the Jonathan administration of weakening the Military to the point that the same military which fought the civil war could defend 17 out of 774 local govt areas!!

Infact critical elements of the same opposition tried to bring Lit Gen Ihejirika - former Chief of Army Staff - before the hague citing human rights abuses and genocide based on the same report that Buhari is claiming ignorance of! This is a General whom crafted the entire template used for the creation of unit as well as training of Personnel for Counter terrorism in Nigeria at a time when the first Boko harm kidnapping of 2 foreign Nationals took place on Nigerian soil; the suicide bombing had not started in nigeria!!

So why pretend that he isn't aware of the same things he used to canvas his potentials as a better president??

Let's tell ourselves the truth while it is day; I not rooting for any of the parties but I am well aware of the atmosphere of distrust, suspicion and wild accusations raised by critical elements of the APC to the extent that Nyako called President Jonathan Himself a Boko haram Sponsor! El-rufai quoted a report stating Ihejirika was a Boko haram sponsor in disguise!! So let leave that question of immaturity out of it!!

Whatever seemingly hostile environment they find set by opposition - organised opposition or otherwise - they set the template for it!! They can't stand the heat, then they should just "Gerrahia Mahn" from the kitchen!!!

The inability of every and any fan of APC or lover of PMB - all these alphabets sef - to give a solid and convincing answer to this comment I just quoted that is devoid of sentiments and childish APC gibberish is proof that they have no concrete reason for their favourable disposition towards General Buhari's Presidency other than " I just like the guy and his perceived/seemingly no nonsense attitude"!!

Of which it is not bad or a crime to just like someone and vote him, but trying to General Buhari a pass mark for this interview is like trying to stand logic on its head!!

Just say U like the guy and hope he will prove his critics wrong come 2019 that's all!!
Say it......."I ike Jonathan anymore and I now like Buhari now"!! Instead of raising unintelligent, sentimental argument that have zero foundation in the school of leadership!!

If a man cannot stand by words he said in 2001 in 2015, where is his integrity!? And if he gave words in 2001 he cannot commit to now or he regrets saying now, where is his apology??
After now them go say he is a leader!!

Meanwhile; I am still waiting for a sound response to this comment I am quoting hia!!
