luvablesam: I just don't know what you meant by the term deceit ..the bottom line is that Igbo said they are not interested in been with you...the question I am asking is why whine Just like when a partner wants divorce the other party won't agree. It shows desperation to hang on to the other party and that is not dignifying to me If they want to go...let then go There are many options like confederation or usa UK and UAE arrangement |

The thread title is nice but the author's premise is disappointing. There are many reasons to believe Biafran independence is a bad idea but using South Sudan as a reason is not a good one. Let me give you a few reasons, For a start the new Biafran borders haven't even been agreed upon by supporters. Then, actual consultation hasn't even been done by anyone to actually see through a successful secession and no one has actually talked about how the Biafran government actually hopes to secede and deal with 'Biafrans' in other parts of Nigeria. The call should been seen by all as a move for greater stake in Nigeria rather than a secession call which has not been properly articulated. If this move will make the FG stop playing politics with infrastructure in the SE then I would consider it a victory! and everyone should be happy. Nnamdi Kanu's just repeating tired cliches and bigoted statements about non-Igbos (including supposed future citizens of Biafra) and can't possibly be taken as a serious method of creating a country. Just for some clarity, South Sudan has been at war for over 35 years with the North. It is a desperate place with very low HDI. Building a new country takes time (Nigeria hasn't even begun after 55 years) and it took a 30 year war for the marginalisation/genocide of the South Sudanese for a cease fire with the North to happen. However, after 18 months of internal South Sudanese fighting, the belligerents are talking. Now that is progress! No Nigerian region has seen what the South Sudanese have been through (an entire generation lost). The country would solve these squabbles when they realise a victory would be pyrrhic. That is what happens when equally matched adversaries meet on a battle field. 1 Like |

Nobody is stopping biafra from seceding but the igbos themselves especially those scatter within the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, the well to do and well established among them. The fear of the unknown plays a major role here, in this current agitation, this sets of people are in great dilemma, I pity them they're neither here nor there. Its quite funny how many of them especially ignorant youths are blaming Yoruba, Hausa and Fulani. Igbo know what to do to achieve their aims but for the fear of the unknown. |

Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it ~ George Santayana My earlier post on this subject This is precisely the view that led South Sudan to the current quagmire it finds itself in. |

I will say it again and again! Igbo elites don't support Biafra, only touts support Biafra. I shake my head when some miscreants say they want to secede. We igbos are not at peace with ourselves, we say we are being maltreated by other tribes, but what of the Osu system, where we discriminate one another. Look at how Nnamdi kalu disgraced himself at world Igbo conference in los Angeles. I'm amazed with the response the right thinking Igbo men and women gave to him. "Ana ebu uzo si Na ulo diri mma nwe puo Na ama." |

Lol. I can't even see any correlation whatsoever between South Sudan and Biafra. And that is a very young country that is barely three years old - give it time. Nigeria is not even better than South Sudan in terms if death rate, extreme poverty, and underdevelopment. Take Lagos and a few other places out of Nigeria - and it is South Sudan. You need to understand that they went through a brutal civil war before independence. Sierra Leone and Liberia that went through the same, despite being in one fold are no better. And how many years did it take for them to recover? For every South Sudan - there are Puntland and Somaliland in Somali - at least these countries are far better and more Somali. For every South Sudan, there is a Singapore. For every South Sudan, there is a Taiwan. For every Somali, there is a Botswana. Freedom is divine and a right - let folks seek freedom from servitude, under development, and a country perpetually in abyss. |

Re: Case Study(south Sudan) by kingzizzy: 12:16pm On Oct 29, 2015 |
I wonder why anyone would use South-Sudan as an example of what would happen in event of Biafra? Eritrea broke away from Ethiopia in 1993 and have lived peacefully since then. This is despite Eritrea being half Muslim and half Christian. |

luvablesam:all of you are talking rubbish! mention one person you know from south sudan! mention a sportsman or woman from there, mention one industrialist, mention the movie industry of south sudan, mention one south sudan person in the british parliament, mention one south sudan person that is a billionaire, mention one of south sudan person that has manufactured of invented something, mention any popular tribe from south sudan! infact the most entrepreneurial tribe in africa is Igbo... just google and see for yourself, all of you are talking rubbish. Kelechi iheanacho just scored goal last night, mention one south sudan person that has scored in England! most of you are talking rubbish! Biafra will not only be a success story it will bring out the fact that black is capable of civilisation. a research carried by a south African lady shows that igbos are smartest and igbo has erased the fact that smartness is no longer colour issue. because igbo has proved it that blacks are capable of being smart like Asians and Caucasians too... biafra is a land of the rising sun! south Sudannese are dark as charcoal we biafran are fair skinned, and brown skinned, we are not dark!!! We are children of God. ndi ara.. |

kingzizzy: Simple - A national conference, which should have pre-determined the fate of its various constituents, was not held. Read the polemic of Truckpusher and TonyeBarcanista over the past few days, and you will get a view of the perilous road ahead Eritrea has lived peacefully? The same country exporting refugees to Israel and the rest of Europe by the truckload? It is time you changed your news vendor brethren. Footnote: While like so many others, I remain fully committed to the struggle for self-determination; I also know how easy it is to replicate hegemonism, when thorny issues are kicked into the long grass. |
Re: Case Study(south Sudan) by Truckpusher(m): 1:20pm On Oct 29, 2015 |
OnReflection:Our submission was simple and it is an ideal that every man has a right to self determination and while at you don't just yank off everyone simply because your languages are somehow intelligible to each other, that is a recipe for disaster and of course any group that wants to be part of that arrangement must do so at their own will and shouldn't be coerced under any circumstances and their interest must be protected and clearly defined. 1 Like |
