coolluk: It's a free world. But that freedom has limits. And it also has repercussions. Cohabitation and relationships are not one and the same thing. Nobody asks you not to cohabit. But never blame whatever results on anyone but yourself. It was your decision, anyway. All over the world, cohabitation among students who live off campus is not unusual, both same sex and opposite sex. But these same societies usually have safety net policies, such that you're never left on your own to face the consequence. A lot of Nigerian students abroad cohabit. Some use it as a way to find a partner while on a student visa to have a relationship with that might improve their chances of a marriage or civil partnership that will earn them Permanent residence after school. Even though it is nobody's business how people run their lives as long as they are aware of what they are doing, reasons for cohabitation vary. The bottom line is KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND WHY YOU'RE DOING IT. 1 Like |

Schools atimes contribute immensely to this. Imagine where school cannot provide accommodation to students especially from part2 to part3. When d other could not secure a place to stay such will be tempted to cohabit with whoever allows him/her. If it were sth I had delight in I would be cohabiting nw because I tested a female friend on that issue of which she obliged bt I later did as if such discussion never existed. |

I remember the lady I was dating in my part 2, she usually spent like 3 days, 2 days and over night. But at the end of part two, when were planning for part 3, Then she came up with this idea of Cohabitation for part 3 and she's really serious about it, and that shht scared the hell out of me. Though I love the food, the company keeping, being there whenever I'm broke and the other stuffs, but I can't imagine living with a girl for a full 4 months and another 4 months , and the fact that I will not be allowed to see other girls is even worse. I decided to call it quit. I don't really like the idea of Cohabitation(Personal Decision, not saying it's wrong or right) but 30% undergraduates engaged in this. |
Re: Nigerian Students And This Cohabitation Menace by ritux: 1:36pm On Oct 30, 2015 |
Zuriela: That it did not work for others doesn't make it wrong as well. Some people might just be helping the other party to accommodate them. Getting accommodation could be difficult in some schools. |

ritux:U and I know that most times its not about difficulty in getting accommodation. |

SUGARBEE: Those are the days of real love...when a lady sees nothing wrong in staying in one funny lookiing room, sleep in same funny looking bed with the guy,get scrwd front n back n this single room apartment, cook with 500naira and enjoy the meal so well but suddenly after graduation, the same lady can not see herself starting life with a man in one room and i begin to wonder... The truth is that these schools should be blamed for not pproviding enough hostels but then the ladies should also use their heads and not offer themselves as intimacy gadgets to boys who dont even know what they want at that point in time.. |
Re: Nigerian Students And This Cohabitation Menace by ritux: 1:49pm On Oct 30, 2015 |
Zuriela: Yea, I agree with you 100%. Just that most of our undergraduates are not mature to deal with things like this and it ends up affecting their studies or unwanted pregnancies resulting to abortions which in some cases, leads to death. |

Yes, it's not something that must be encouraged or promoted anyway. But it's not an issue of that attention cos it happens in any part of the world. We have pressing and disgusting issues/challenges to look into. Co-habitation per say isn't worst than underdevelopment/terrorism we are faced in Nigeria. We must aside western education and develop our own Nigerian Education just like Chinesse developed Chinesse education, Japan developed japaness Education, German Education, and English education etc... This is the era of change per say, let's apply it in our Education. Udo diri unu. 1 Like |

temitayomie: Let us be true to ourselves...while some cases are not justified..some seem to be. I dated a lady way back in school andd we we lived together for 3yrs simply because she could not afford off campus hostel n the school had no hostel. Funny enough we were able to maintain a no sex policy but the truth is that this is one act that must bee discouraged cos its resultant effect is usually terrible. |
