In a series of Tweets via her Twitter page, Oby Ezekwesili, has call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to adopt the tough reform measures in order to save Nigeria’s declining economy due to fall in oil price.

According to Oby, a time of lean finances is Nigeria’s best opportunity to overhaul the structure of polity, governance and economy.

“The administration has inherited all assets & liabilities from previous one and it is what it is. Now take charge & take the tough measures.

“We are once again offered an opportunity to dig ourselves out of oil wells that dull the minds of our leaders & lull them into wastefulness.

“A nation wasted the great opportunity of 5 years of record high oil prices & is now technically broke. We better get ready 4 tough measures,” she tweets.

She added that Nigerians will only buy into these tough measures if the government acts transparently as majority of Nigerians who comments via social media and radio to do so in dark.

“When citizens realize how dire the Public Finance is, they will moderate their expectations & support Majority Nigerians who are commenting on social media and radios do so in the dark. Throw the books of accounts of government open. It will help.

“It’s considerably easier to get a “Buy In” for tough reform measures that a time like this demands if government acts totally transparently.

“My free counsel to the Economic Team is throw the public accounts open. As in, absolutely open the bank statements of FG so everyone knows.

“Citizens will be better served by candor from the Federal & other Governments in this most challenging period. No sugar coating,” she argued.

She urged Nigerian citizens to collectively demand and support a sound restructuring agenda from the Federal Government.

No matter how open this government is, some set of people will never be realistic in their expectations. They have programmed their brains not to see make their expectations in line with the current economic situation in the country.

That notwithstanding, the government must introduce tough measures to manage the economic recession that we are experiencing. A definite decision should be taking on subsidy and governments agencies should be trimmed down considerably. The zero based budgeting system should be meticulously implemented to avoid the past practise where funds are perpetually allocated to projects that have no positive on the economy. The scope of the IPPIS should also be expanded to capture ALL federal government institutions, most especially, the security agencies.

I'm sorry Oby, your opinion is irrelevant in the scheme of things....If you are so good in what you do, you won't be jobless up till now. Kindly take the back seat and stop disturbing us.

I really don't see how he's hating. Oby has been jobless for a long time compared to Ngozi for example, who got has 3 international positions since leaving office.

Oby is just a noise maker. First it was 'Bring back our girls', well the last time I checked the girls have not yet been brought back, so how come she's gone quiet on that front, and is now making noise about the Economy?

Citizens may not key in with those proposed stringent measures inasmuch as the political class and leaders with some opportuned individuals are brazenly corrupt with recklessness and rubbing it on our faces. A situation where the outgoing NERC board members allocate N2.7b to themselves as severance allowance when the economy is supposed to be bleeding is criminal.

Government need to be sincere about his promise to fight corruption to standstill and there should be no sacre cow.
