The nurses should just sharap and go back to their wards. Is it because the masses have not protested or written an open letter about their ill treatment at their various hospitals especially at the general hOspitals.

Attention seekers sad

- Olisa Metuh has a job to do for PDP.

- The job of a spokesperson is to "nurse" by taking special care of, especially to promote development or well-being of his party.

Why are they taking Ndume's statement out of context...now go back to your wards grin
No chief, nurses that are nurses know that more harm than good had been done on the image of the profession by such uncouth words. We are now extremely sensitive to issues like this. The era of keeping silent while everybody baths us with unreasonable identity is far gone.
Of course there are few bad ones that we are fishing out, dealing with and those who are not ready for the shift in paradigm are being shown the way out.
So, illiteracy is actually far from us except those quacks that are in the private hospitals carrying fake identities. We are knowledgeable crews.
By the way that picture of yours, is that truly you?

Na lie! You want to compare an Eliza nurse aka auxiliary nurse whose qualification upon "admission" to be trained as a nurse is WAEC or NECO to a graduate of nursing that spent 5-6 years in the university and another one in a teaching hospital? Does Eliza nurse know what a cadaver is?

Keeping doing nursing as a guy when your mate are during medicine. Later you will claim you are a doctor.
Stop displaying ur ignorance Mr Man, men have been coming into nursing for ages with increasing educational status and versatility of nurses and nursing is gradually becoming a gender neutral profession. Just like medicine was seen for males only in the past but nw populated by both sexes.
Nursing even needs more masculine hands and by God's grace we'll get there. Nurses are proud of their profession so stop the hate propagation and come out from the rock u live in.

I'm not a nurse neither am I a doctor but I detest ignorance.. Nursing is not exclusive of the females. You probably don't know they exist cos ppl erroneously call dem doctors. With yur logic, females shouldn't be involved in sports right? Also, your won't allow a female barber to groom yyour hair and head? I repeat, send yourself to the 21st and quit the hatered and jealousy. You probably studied biochm and your jealousy they earn more than you do.

I know of some young girls who, after leaving secondary schools but yet to get the required number of credit in WAEC or NECO to further their education, chose to be "nurses." They are "trained" in some private hospitals. Does it make sense equating these girls with those that got the required number of credits, got to the university, graduated and did "housemanship" in a teaching hospital or any recognized private clinic like St. Nicholas in Lagos? BTW most of the nurses I used to see years back in OAU Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife were male, wearing white trousers and blue shirts. What do you say?

Lolzz grin ... Actually I first did my BNsc. However our primary and major problem is not even about the doctors but with the leadership of the profession (NMCN & NANNM). They've not helped in anyway to protect the image not raise the head of the profession. I believe you should know better what I'm talking about.

Wow! That's good, so u're now a Dr but still av nursing at heart.
I totally understand, personally I always say nursing has no 'leaders' but mere ceremonial heads, the only duty of theirs they know is to collect dues from nurses, not caring abt the profession's progression and image. It's only the passion still keeping most of us, nursing is discouraging here. But I know with the advent of the new generation nurses, we'll get there.
Best of luck in ur new profession

Thank you my dear. Don't be surprised though if I'm fully back with the nursing profession as things get better because in the real sense of it, nurses got the real power (following international best practices) but willed it to the doctors ( here in Nigeria). I'm already planning on doing an MSc in Psychiatric nursing. And when I travel out, I might as well identify more as a nurse. The problem I have with it is just the image it has in this country.

That's cul. It's true the image is a turn off and disheartening.
Psychiatric nursing is very interesting, but the hazard part tho. Some of my colleagues got slapped and hit by pts then during our neuro-psychiatric experience. I can remember a day a pt became violent, seriously I didn't know how I got outside the ward that day, I no get liver reach that side. The male nurses had to restrain and sedate him.
I'll love to go the education route, I'll look into nursing education when the time comes, what do u think?

RE: "Nurses Demand Apology From Senator Ali Ndume"
Good morning all
My attention has been drawn to an online publication captioned "Nurses Demand Apology From Senator Ali Ndume" authored by a group INSPIRED NURSES NETWORK AFRICA (INNA). May i use this opportunity to state clearly and unequivocally that i have a lot of respect for NURSES. My late Mother, may her soul rest in peace was a nurse, i was therefore raised through the proceeds of nursing. My distant Niece became a nurse courtesy of my tutelage, i also have two prospective nurses under my personal and private scholarship scheme. The "NURSE" in the interview i granted was not used subjectively but figuratively within the context of SYSTEMS THEORY where component parts function for the effectiveness and efficiency of the system. The Medicare system in this context comprises of Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Laboratory Scientists etc. When a component of these malfunctions, the system collapses. Some components of PDP are malfunctioning that's why the Party is collapsing. NURSES are care givers whose role in Medicare cannot be under estimated and therefore should not be denigrated, derogated, insulted, disrespected or mocked. These were not and will never be my intentions, therefore the impression is highly regretted. I also use this opportunity to extend my hand of friendship to INSPIRED NURSES NETWORK AFRICA (INNA) and urge them to avail themselves to my open door policy as my office and person is always open to suggestions, in case they need any legislative framework that will enable and strengthen the practice of nursing in Nigeria.
Thanks.

Hahaha... It's very interesting indeed my dear. I remember our psychiatric posting as well, it was fun filled and you can't help it but being on the alert at all times. However, my intention of specializing in it is not for hospital practice. It's for lecturing purpose, hence you going into academia is also a good choice. The profession at this point is still virgin in this country and only persons with a vision will be able to identify this on time and write his/her name on the sand of time. Eg I don't know if nursing in Nigeria has up to 30 professors (I'm over-estimating), unlike the doctors, pharmacists, med lab scts, etc. Hence a career in nursing academia will make one stand out very high faster than in professions like medicine that already has profs everywhere. Specifically, psychiatry is a department that is scarcely ventured into by nurses unlike med-surg, community health and mch. That make psychiatric specialists a hot cake. In the school I finished from for instance, the HOD of psychiatric health nursing dept did not do her PhD in psychiatry because because of lack of man power, she just had to man the dept, unlike med-surg and others with enough personnel.

Seriuosly? U still need evidences to portray the wickedness of the nurses? When your heart is desperately evil how can you accept faults. I lost a dear sister just because a night duty nurse feels she too knows better and slept all through without attending to her cry when she was calling for help. I dealt with her anyway.

So bro forget. Most nurses are evil including a family of mine.

you are mixing things up. You become a nurse by either doing the 3years diplomate (in a schl of nursing, every state in nigeria has at least 1 of such) or d 5years degree course(in the university). I know about those who are trained by greedy doctors, they are not nurse or aux. nurse, I call them servants. True, people call them nurses but they aren't and I'm saying the term aux nurse doesn't not exist officially. People came with the term aux nurse to distinguish them from the real nurse but I'm saying they shldnt be referred to anything nursing! And nurses does go on housemanship.

From what I can see, u're both making the same points, but what flightz is saying is those auxiliary 'nurses' are actually quacks becos they aren't recognized within the nursing cadres in Nigeria, it's either u're a registered nurse or a quack, no in btw.
