please go for a toks 2003/2004 Nissan pathfinder or 2003 infiniti QX4. They are not really economical with fuel but very reliable if you are maintenance conscious

with dt budget u will get honda crv or rav4 1998 - 2002, add 200k and u shld get 2001 - 2004 highlander/lexus Rx300

nissan xtera 2000 - 2002 u will get balance

i would very much suggest d RX 300...

Get yourself a no holds barred, all terrain, go anywhere 2000 to 2002 toyota 4Runner limited edition and enjoy serenity and piece of mind. If fuel economy is your choice, then get yourself a 2003 Honda CR-V and enjoy quality craftmanship.

But if you want to be different from others and enjoy off-road in a clamshell, with minimal fuel economy get yourself
1. Suzuki vitara 2000
2. suzuki XL7 2002
3. 2001 subaru forester

but if you want simple and ample just go with the 4Runner

rx 300 is ur best bet, a compromise of style n design
am sure 1.4m can get u 2001 downwards rav4..and 2002 downwards crv...but i consider the rx 300 beta.
other models to consider is 2002 to 1997 4runner...though am sure its 2000 model downwards that ur money can buy as well.
the 03 downwards pathfinder n infinit qx shud also b within that range.

if u can get a clean 01 4runner, go for it...if not get an 01/00 rx 300

The only thing that matters is the Op ended up buying QX4 which were among the options I gave him and that to me is worthwhile, only a birdbrain like you will think otherwise.
