skimanski: Why reinforce the German Floor with Iron Rod? It's a Bungalow and any such reinforcement may be an "over-built". The current DPC may spread the superstructure load as required and adequately. 3 Likes |

diordaves: It's not really about over reinforcement, when you build raft you need to reinforced the dpc 2 Likes |

I think it would have been better to use some for form of reinforcement even if it is 8Y/10Y or even a quarter rod. This would have guaranteed more strength and stability. |

olawale100: What is the effect of this on the building most especially since it is a bungalow, are you saying the building is not strong and can collapse? 1 Like |

diordaves: My Question is This, What Happens to the Concrete Cast I am seeing here when the Sand Beneath Settles further down from its current Point, it means the Cast will collapse without Reinforcement. Because, that sand will definitely still settle further no matter the compacting. 6 Likes |

To all the critics in the house I want to just say that we all know it's a bungalow and even at that the filling was treated to compact and since we fill it would go down when it settles I will advise we wait for that. Thanks all for the your comment and pls share more light to your observation Pix of the progress in site 1 Like

mrpally: No, the house is strong! But it would have been better if there's reinforcement (no matter how little) even if it is layers of hardcore prior to the slab. Here's a picture of a foundation after 10 months. What held the concrete in place is the reinforcement beneath the slab. Sand will definitely settle whether you're building a bungalow or storey buildings. Whether you use laterite or sharp sand to fill. Well done! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDbVlYm6VOI |

brabus: Okay now this is a long thing. Won't the hardcore settle down alongst with the laterite? |
Re: Construction Of A 3bedroom Bungalow Somewhere In Ajah by brabus(m): 3:21am On Dec 20, 2015 |
The effect? Not catastrophic - Shrinkage/Settlement Crack - Misaligned Doors - Hollow sound in some area that settles faster due to poor compaction. The fix is to drill a hole and fill the void area. Also ensure that you keep your perimeter wall free from water. |

EgunMogaji: Oga eghosajohnny, It's not my style to give advice on other peoples thread without taking permission from the OP. Sorry I had to do this for the diety! If the backfill was properly compacted and perimeter kept at a constant moisture and there's no leakage in the plumbing line, there wouldn't be any cause for alarm. That explains the reason why many agreed it's not necessary. What I said earlier is that it would have been better if there's reinforcement? Even with the reinforcement, hardcore and compaction - sand will still settle. 3 Likes |

Thank you mr brabus it's an open forum for critics but I believe in what I have done and secondly it's not in all a waterlogged area and every treatment to ensure its strength and avoidance of future problem is taking care by getting quality material for the finishing. Thanks more pics on the ongoing project 1 Like 1 Share
