He was not the best obviously. He was only "suitable" just like other candidates. The reason they could afford to turn him down is because there were other options available. In this competitive world, always dress the part. I cannot hire a marketer or front desk officer or any staff who must relate physically with my clients who has visible piercings or tattoos. They can be in other departments where they wouldn't necessarily represent the brand of my company. Appearance matters a lot. Ever wondered why beautiful ladies are more likely to get jobs as front desk officers? 8 Likes 1 Share |

Likewise putting on dreadlocks, moonhawk, long beared or side beared can disqualify one from getting that job |

I look through the corporate world in Nigeria and not a single male manager wears ear ring. You think it is coincidence!. No, they simply don't see male ear ring as decent, hence why you will not see one. I have worked in a bank and an IOC and not a single one of my colleagues uses ear ring as a man.At least not in our Nigerian offices. You will see very few experts, but even those are never manager materials!. 3 Likes 1 Share |

chocolateme: I support that action by the management of the company. That serves him right. No responsible man or woman will draw a tattoo on himself or herself and expect someone/employer to hire him/her. Yes, those into entertainment who do those things are self employed and can do anything with their body and get away with that. That is why you see the likes of Charley Boy who can go anywhere to meet the presidents of any country. They create wealth themselves. Most poor people out there who has nothing to offer and going about to piece their eyes and draw tattoo are just fools with no brain. My roommate in the US did that and I warned him of the implication and he waived it off.Today, he regretted his action of piecing his ears when we went for an interview and he was dropped |

chocolateme:you are being compassionate. But see, most people that do crime are those that appear like touts, piercing of ear, tatoos, men doing dreadlocks, and all appearances noted with evil people. I m not saying there are not innocent looking dudes that do crime but the humble looking ones are mostly responsible. 1 Like |

I can never employ someone of such appearance, I remember vividly sending a lady with big tat out of an interview room even before it commences. The the truth is you just have to be modest in your appearance, because it psychologically goes along way in telling who you are. 1 Like |

Well....they schools I went to....my teachers and lecturers said they weren't only teaching us to intelligent but be of good character too...the guy may have aced it for the intelligence part but I don't think he qualified character wise based on outward appearance....... Moreover he was not the only candidate for the job what if the others succeeded academically and character wise 1 Like |

[quote author=panachuku post=40508591]That is rubbish, i know an AGM of the same bank who used to be a bad boy during his undergrad days in USA with piercings also. Was also interviewed by d pensions arm of the bank sometin ago- d hr lady had a big tattoo on her leg. Looking responsible doesnt mean one is responsible. I pray for this country to have sense one day [/quo. In coperate world apperance matters.thoy it might not rereal self but the first appearance makes a lot of jugdement. |

silvermania:funny enof, I'm into entertainment but I don't fancy piercings, tattoos (I once wanted one but I grew out of the thought) and chains( and I'm a rapper for that matter)..... all I fancy is watches, regular rayban shades, and shoes..... That his excuse of entertainment is baldadash..... it was childishness.... I like to dress how I want to be addressed.... 1 Like |

onihaxy: irony of life when organizations like star times made kanu with plaited hair their brand ambassador, etisalat made olamide an ambassador despite his vulgar lyrics, Glo endorsed burna boy as their face despite several tatoos on his body but if an innocent young man shows up at their interviews with any of the above anomally, they will reject him and tag him irresponsible. funny life 5 Likes 2 Shares |

/ Isn't that the same thing I preached against. People who have to depend on others to survive should never copy celebrities. Multiple tattoos, piercings, etc. are easy ways prospective employees foreclose on life changing opportunities. The celebrities they copy are not out there looking for 9-5 jobs. But some think they know better than the employers. / 9 Likes 1 Share |

bolayei: The thing with piercings and tatts is that, to get them, on some level, you have to be unconventional, a kinda rebel. And if you're not 'sheeple' you might just be difficult to herd. And who knows what else you're unconventional about. Honesty? Hard-work? Punctuality? Between an Einstein with a piercing and one without, my choice is pretty easy. It's like having to choose between a single mum and a single girl with similar attributes. 2 Likes |
