Nawa o! So this NCC is not even that serious? Let NCC go and learn work from other countries like Dubai them, and watch Nigeria become a better country.

This government is a joke

Why wouldn't you reduce it?I mean why would NCC fine a private company a sum high enough to make another country's annual budget??If MTN Nigeria had paid that N1.04tr,what would have become of its over 2000 Nigerian staff??What would have been left of the company??Would NCC use the money to create jobs for the over 2000 staff that would be thrown into the labor market?Or they would share it among themselves? And some Nigerian youths are cool with this??

Nigerians are always short sighted in hurry to see the downfall of a giant

you can't compare those 2000 staff with 400000 jobless graduates on the street!

let them pay that money and SACK the staff, we will create another telecoms and employ them back as compensation.

let us start thinking of newer possibilities and stop living in the glory of another's country company

No matter de level of offence MTN might had committed, such amount is too much for a fine. I wonder why NCC should be so heartless, I really feel for MTN.

I am curious what will happen if MTN refuses to pay, will they be forced to shutdown? ( I'm looking forward to this)

Also wondering where these billions of Naira will be going to!? The fine is enough to balance Nigerians budget deficit right now.

MTN acknowledged the wrongdoing themselves...so there's no chance of that.

from what i heard, MTN nigeria will have to pay the money, no money will be directed from SA to Nigeria. SA wont allow that to happen, if MTN fails to raise the cash within Nigeria, i guess thats the end of MTN nigeria.

People must understand that MTN is a public company, it is majority owned by SA government workers pension fund(PIC). So people's money is at stake here, they would rather loose the licence and still make 63% profit in other countries than to risk pouring funds that might not bear fruits at the end of the day.

even if mtn still pay this one, na close them go close be dat sad

Lol.... No they won't close but it will hit them hard. One for sure is no bonuses for anybody next year, I'm not even sure they will take Christmas bonus. Hiring will be affected, all these their artist endorsement will be Reduced and may re-negotiate contracts. In short they will seriously cut costs on every aspect of the business. Everybody left has to make these sacrifices so business can return to profits in a short time. Upon all its a very healthy organization

WHO SIGNED THE FIRST LETTER?
Who is that blind official that signed the letter talking of 35% reduction when 25% was meant?

As sensitive as this matter is some foools at NCC still embarrassed us by first sending wrong reduction percentage to MTN.

Somebody should be queried for this unpardonable blunder.

Sad to realize some Nigerians still feel this is a fair call. This is day light robbery, extortion. We won't realize the impact of this fine till in a few years we plot the trajectory of our FDI.our country is broke, oil revenues are declining and you are tightening the ease of doing business. What a calamity waiting to happen. All the so called multinationals that nigerian youth who are clamouring for the head of MTN apply to work at are keenly observing this development and assessing their options in case this is a new policy direction.
To all you town criers announcing the emergence of the new sheriff in town, well let me tell you who he reminds me of, Robin Hood.A people's champion who stole from the rich and, royal and gave the poor out of his loot. He was hailed, but he was also a thief,a common criminal.Venezuela 's Hugo Chavez once tried stealing from the rich western oil firms and in fact he succeeded and stripped them of billions of dollars of assets but where is Venezuela today? Broke, confused and possibly full of regret. They chased away FDI coz petrodollars were flowing and they were even playing regional God just like Nigeria, dishing out money and playing to the gallery sticking their middle finger at any opportunity to the U.S. How times have changed as the socialist party lost most seats in parliament to the opposition just two days ago.
Mark my words, five years from now some intelligent people will be reviewing the policies of this administration and it would be almost unanimous that this fine killed this country.

Before MTN came to being, there was Nigeria and if it collapsed and go bankrupt today, there will still be Nigeria and Nigerians.

I don't know how old you are,or how educated you are or should I rather say how enlightened you are because in Nigeria graduates are a dime a dozen but one thing I am certain of is that you certainly don't understand the A of my thought pattern talk less of B or k.i feel like someone speaking to you in the language of the native people of Guam.
Where is that did I hear you ask? Don't bother but while lazying around, broaden your mind and learn how the world operates.
