I don't see this new Ooni following this tradition because he's educated and young.

Would his young wife even allow him to "reap where he did not sow?"

One brand new wife + Four tokunbo wives = Five wives. What an awesome fivesome!

Ooni, abeg there so many young girls out there.
u think his wife can stop him if he really wants to?

except he doesn't want to....

Thank you for setting thing right. The new Ooni does not have to sleep with these women, tradition says he should take care of them like his wives, that is the reason for the inheritance and not sex. It is even a taboo to have sex with a woman an Oba has had sex with whether she is an Olori (legally married to the Oba) or not.

It's not a taboo is the person having sex with her is the Oba.. The same culture is practiced here in the Benin Kingdom..

The first priority of the inheritance is for security... But should the Oba decides to have sex with any of them tradition forbids the Queens to reject him.

The new Ooni is not the son of the late Ooni. In any case, I don't support wife inheritance wether it's his father's wives or not.

People don't read,They just rush to comment.it is not compulsory that the ooni must marry them just that the late ooni's wives can't marry any other person apart from the new ooni or remain single

People always misinterprete this yoruba tradition. There are two reasons why this is done.
1. Back in the day, yoruba kings were seen as demi-gods and highly revered. Therefore it was thought not to be proper for the young widows who were still young enough to remarry be taken up by mere mortals. Hence, another Oba must inherit them.

2. For the older wives, some of them very old. Who would take care of them if the new Oba sends them packing from the palace? Hence, he is also to become their husband thereby guaranteeing their sustenance till death. He might not even set eyes on them till they die. But he has the responsibility for their well being. That is the whole essence of this practice
since you put it this way, I see the wisdom in the tradition.

Doesn't make any iota of sense. They could have still made it a tradition for the new Oba to take care of the widows and not necessarily marrying them. Must the new Oba marry them before he can take care of them? African tradition is bull crap.

So disrespectful. Did they tell u they wanted to remarry? U can't even talk where these women are, they're not some helpless, brokeass women.

And to d person saying Abiola stole wife from ooni. I laugh. Please name the MKO's wife DT was once an olori. Smh.
