Can hiTV please replace Trace TV with MTV Base? I feel it will be a better replacement and definitely, an entertaining one for that matter.

@femo7, trace is far a better option than mtv base africa, the only station that compete wif trace that i know of for now are,

pls i have a question,when are they going to add movie and entertainment channels cos am fed up with their service,like 8 of my friends have sold thier hitv and bought dstv,everywhere i go people are always complaining,if they dont add the BET before monday and tru with it,no magazine,no good program,they are messed up,Bleep hitv,how much does it cost to get the dstv compact

I prefer watching Ltv 8 compare to the useless hi nolly,hi mix,what kind of stupid film is (power to power),am sure the film is from 1994,picture quality is 0,concept is -5,can you believe zee cinemas is the best channel on hitv.I only enjoy nigezie and am going interest in al jazeera,i enjoyed the news abt pakistan last night,for crying out loud,what is acbn,pls dont call that a tv station abeg oo,is there a way we could talk to hitv or Tony and the listen,damn hitv

HiTV leads African consortium for EPL

WHOLLY Nigerian pay-TV company, HiTV, is teaming up with 11 other African pay-TV operators in an attempt to wrest English Premier League (EPL) Sub-Saharan African rights from existing holders MultiChoice.
HiTV alongside Yes TV (Sierra Leone ), Star TV (Rwanda), Total Acces (Burkina Faso), Skyy Media (Ghana), Kiss FM (Kenya), Zuku TV (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda), Vox Africa (pan-regional), Next Generation Broadcasting (Ghana), Imanle Africa (Cameroon, Benin), plus several former representatives from now defunct satellite platform GTV covering Liberia, Tanzania and Uganda, today presented their combined bid to the English Football Association (FA).

The bid, if successful, will not only take the EPL rights from MultiChoice but also create a new continent-wide broadcast platform that will offer every country in Africa its own DTH platform, according to HiTV, which already holds the EPL rights within Nigeria.
HiTV said the continent-wide technology and content backbone being created will allow individual countries in Africa to develop their own independent broadcasting market and tailor their service to meet the demands of regional viewers.
The move is part of HiTV's ongoing campaign to have content rights owners treat Africa in terms of individual territories rather than North, South and sub-Saharan regions. HiTV began this process when it carved out Nigerian EPL rights for itself.
This tactic not only meant the GTV platform couldn't enter Nigeria, since its selling point in other sub-Saharan African markets was exclusive football coverage, but it allowed HiTV to build a base of 200,000 subscribers in the two years. HiTV said this growth is largely down to the EPL rights.
"Our proposal will open up the market to individual countries to build and develop their own broadcast markets and drive investment. As football has such a global appeal, it only seems fitting that it is set to unite African broadcasting," said Toyin Subair, MD and CEO of HiTV.
The HiTV-led consortium believes that the existing bidding process for the English Premier league perpetuates the monopoly of sub-Saharan African broadcasting by Multichoice's DSTV service, since it treats the entire region as one big deal rather than smaller deals for its constituents territories.
"We want to streamline the model to allow broadcasters and viewers to have greater control over this content," added Subair. "Africa is an emerging market for the global broadcasting industry and there is huge potential for international content owners and advertisers."
[b]The HiTV-led bid for EPL rights to the 2010-2013 seasons is by no means assured to succeed. MultiChoice operates the DSTV platform across the whole of Africa, has EPL rights to South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa (ex-Nigeria) and is unlikely to give up these rights without a fight, [/b]even if the FA does completely change the way it sells both its African and Middle Eastern EPL rights. The FA is to decide on the 2010-2013 rights "within a few months," a HiTV source said.

It seems you guys are new subscribers to hitv.

Those issues you guys are pointing out are issues we have complained, threatend , warned and cursed about since the beginning of this thread.

My frustration came to a head when my hi-life and hikids disappeared for over two months without explanantion and i was made to believe that the fault was from my end.
Imagine complaining that they dont have enough content and channels just for two of their flagship channels to disappear without any clear reason or time-frame for the resolution of the problem.
I used to be a strong supporter and believer in Hitv but just because they got the premiership rights doesnt mean they should take me, a subscriber for granted. After all, am not a slave to football.

Thats why I went to get a DSTV subscription. At least till the middle of next English football season, i will be watching DSTV.

The difference is like Night and Day. Ok, I should say that the difference is just 300 naira difference between the compact package and Hitv .

For 4, 300 naira here is what you get in Entertainment:

Mnet Action: Action packed movies(If you dont like a lot of blood and bullets and too much rawness, stay out).

Hallmark: New drama series and action series, movies(both old and new). Was surprised to see that Hallmark has post-millenium movies even up to 2008 movies.

Mnet Series: You name the series. From old to new. From old classics like Touched by an angel to the latest ones like Prison break, lost, Desperate housewives, GREYS Anatomy, House, and so much more that i cant remember.Not forgeting specials like American idol and so on.

BET: Black Entertainment Tv. Hitv has been advertising this.

SET: Yes Sony Entertainmen Tv was added just last week.

GO: Not 24 hours but great series and comedies plus teen entertainment.

I found this rather amusing, HiTV has fought for years to get Nigeria identified as a separate identity with the EPL and of course managed to get the EPL through this method.
Now with the cost of the EPL next contract going to be over $200 million for Nigeria (Champions league cost the over 100 million Euros, so you can guarantee that the EPL will be double), they form a consortium for all of Africa. I presume this also will cover Nigeria; the problem is their partners are not "heavy weights" in the business and the rest of Africa will also cost a fortune. The EPL are not crazy they see the income they can make in Nigeria alone and then the amount outside, so I doubt if they will change very much.
I feel as though HiTV are worried about the next round as their subscriber base does not support what they are paying for football, just what happened at GTV. It will be interesting to watch when the tender for the EPL comes out towards the end of the year!

This issue about HiTV and DSTV is not just a case of losing signal. To me (My personal Opinion) is that it is a societal thing. Over in this part of the world, we dont really lay emphasis on Customer Satisfaction.

DSTV is just the best amongst the worst. They are not good. When you reboot, it takes all that time because it is loading the interactive portion. The truth is that it shouldnt have to go through that. For example, in the US, when you reboot a Comcast box, it loads right away just like the HiTV one an then the Interactive portion loads on the background or "On Deman". Why load the Interative when i just want to watch the channel?

Just like MTN, they suck as well but in Naija, they seem to be better than the others.

i still however blame HiTV management but more so, i blame the regulatory bodies because there are some basic things that one should have before they launch such business. Things like, minimum subscriber base.

For a Cable Operator to carry something like CNN, you must have a minimum subscriber base of like 500K users or something. Now why would DSTv go for Fox News that is a republican station. My bad for bringing this up but why??

I also blame exposure and expertise. I am not quite certain that HiTV has the technical expertise to deal with most of their situations. An example is the Audio issue in their half time commentary, come rain come shine, as a broadcaster, you cant show that. no matter what. No matter how much it cost. We all appreciate CNN but do you know how much they spent for the graphics at the Obama election? That shows you their commitment to quality.

Why cant HiTV tackle this Audio issue that has been on forever? that is my problem. if they are small, that is ok. there is room for growth but then, we havent seen any signs of improvement. I think this is an African / black thing. We dont really care what our customers think.

I will love to see HiTV succedd but then, their management has to also wish the same and not just collect people's money. They need to invest on experts that understand media and not claimants.

if you are using strong decoder then you have to scan manually for channels but if you are using hitv branded decoder and you don't have 30 channels today then you have to upgrade to 2.0.7, call an installer

what improvement do you wish to see in HITV generally speaking

for me I hope to see the addition of an act movie channel, 2 documentary channels, 1 or 2 reality tv channel, i need to see improvement on the ELP coverage studio (am not saying the current one is not good) but there is room to make it even the best (see Al Jazeera news room); the graphics used during live program must be improved becos I believe there are better graphics specialist in this country, pls HITV it is necessary especially during half time and after the match analysis.

Amuludun, Hi Life and Biscon are good concept but they need serious improvement; the pics quality, audio and current movies (at least 3 months); i also hope to see HITV NEWS Channel that will cover the entire nation with news we don't get to see on NTA or AIT

I am using HITV branded decoder, I still colud not get the added channels eg BET, ALJEEZERA. The decoder is of 2.0.7 version. I have scanned time without number, i only have 26 channels presently. Kindly help me & others that do not no how to resolve the issue?
