THE AIM OF DIGGING UP THIS ARTICLE:

Pleae note: Madam Okonjor made this assertions in November 2014.

1. This is to remind the Wailing Wailers who keep attacking the current minister of Finance that the ex Finance Minister whom they so much believe in and whom they believe would have been a messiah sounded the alarm of a very tough economy ahead even when oil was still as high as 76usd per barrel. Do I need to remind anyone the price of oil per barrel now?

2. The ex Minister of Finance only saw a need to block revenue leakages when Oil prices started dropping low. Was any action taken after her suggestion? No!!! Rather, despite the dwindling oil prices, CBN became am ATM to allies of the president, where raw Dollars/Naira where withdrawn/tansferred under the guise of phantom projects, bogus subsidy claims, arms procurements. Etc. Now we are suffering of dollar crunch.

Who came on board to block the leakages? The new Sheriff off course, President Buhari.

3. If at $76/per barrel, Madam Okonjor was already ringing bells, why do the Wailing Wailers expect a booming economy from a government which is less than a year in office, and currently selling oil at $28 per barrel? Rather than wailing, they should rather support the government in steps taken to move Nigeria forward.

4. Madam Okonjor needs to explain to Nigerians why Nigeria was not saving for the dry season when oil was sold well above $100 per barrel. What happened to all the revenues generated when oil was booming? We only had booming economy on papers, ordinary Nigerians never felt a booming economy under her watch.

To the Wailing Wailers:

President Buhari have succeeded in blocking a lot of revenue leakages, and is driving seriously for non oil revenue generations as it is evident in the changes made in the Nigeria Customs, FIRS, and the appointment of learned scholar Dr. kayode Fayemi as the minister of Solid minerals.Etc

We have also seen efforts to recover stolen money even though some term it political witch hunting. The almost dead EFCC whose duty was reduced to chasing Internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys have suddenly rosen up to their responsibilities. Fraudsters like Olisah Metuh, Dansuki and the likes are already feeling the heat.

Efforts to recover stollen money is also a form of blocking revenue leakages.

The fact remains that APC led government can not correct the 16 years rot of PDP in less than a year and it is illogical to blame the current economic woes on the newly elected president. Only the blind will not see President Buhari is really working to make Nigeria great again.

SO FAR SO GOOD, PRESIDENT BUHARI IS PERFORMING ECONOMIC MIRACLES, HE HAS NOT EVEN BORROWED TO PAY ANY SALARIES

This is an indication of the cluelessness of the present FG. Even before they got to power, the were aware of the tough times aheaD. They promised change. They came into power and yet the impact is growing by the day. What buffers have this govt put in place as sugGested by NOI?

On the economy, this govt has since slipped from grade D to E and are precariously at the edge of slipping to an epic Fail.

shaking my head for you very very slowly.

NOI suggested buffers? really? and when she was in office what buffers did she implement that necessitated her borrowing money to pay federal government workers after a period of oil boom never before seen in this nation?

Which particular policies are you disappointed with? As for Soludo and Sanusi all I have heard from them are not as horrible as you make it sound. You have to look at the intentions of government first and judge also their drive towards that intention.

A policy (like ban on importation , certain items) will affect some people but will be in the longer term interest of a greater number of the people. In other words we cannot have a perfect policy.

Naira will slide even if you hand this country to Obama. Because our source of revenue is oil, which is going southwards.

We have heard the Economist, Bloomberg et al suggesting that Buhari should allow Naira to fall as low as it can. Is that the sort of policy you want Buhari to adopt? If so you will be disappointed because he is not likely to do that.

Import bans and all forms of protectionidm have failed to industrialise the economy.

Import bans simply encourage smuggling and make local manufacturers inefficient since they have no foriegn competition.

Countries that have successful industrialised have done so through exports.

You said government should not devalue but the naira has fallen to 307 at the black market. This is fsr worse than if the CBN officially devalued. The rate would have touch 250 at worst and the black market perhaps 255. And that is the worst scenario. Bloomberg is suggesting about 225. That'd much better than 305.

Even with the warning, GEJ watched his team of looters consume public funds with impunity.

No measure was taken to plug leakages yet he was campaigning for another term. Not surprised that The Economist called him an ineffectual buffoon. He gave room for that insult.

Could you please explain in detail the job responsibilities of a finance minister?

You sound as if NOI was the president.

Let me educate you a bit; Anambra state government followed Okonjo's suggestions and just recently they increased worker's salary by 15% while other states are borrowing money to pay salary. Also, Anambra has enough money that can sustain the state for 4 years.

Could you please tell us what your NOI-walla-be (Kemi Adeosun) is doing concerning our economy?

In the face of dwindling economy that need diversification
How come buhari allocated
39 billion naira to information ministry .
But 29 billion to agriculture when agriculture is suppose to enjoy huge allocation to caution oil fall

Oil is falling rapidly to the point that nigeria is producing at a lost of $5 but buhari earmarked 40 billion to search for oil in Chad basin.in which market will the pool be sold if a successful search is achieved.

NB: I am a die hard APC supporter with No Apologies!!!!

Duly noted!! I want to believe that the fact that you are a die hard APC fan does not mean that you are totally blinded to the truth!!

If you undertake an investigation of the History of the Sovereign wealth fund, its creation and the closure of the ECA - which was an illegality fathered by Obasanjo - you will discover that there was actually efforts made by Jonathan/Nkonjo Iweala to save funds!!

Unfortunately it was a solo parade, all the governors refused to save within the framework of the SWF; the only governor who heeded NOI's warning was Peter Obi of anambra state and even he chose to save in his state outside the framework of the SWF - a look at news archives will show you that He invited Nkonjo Iweala to Anambra to restructure the state ministry of finance!!

The story of anambra today? At a time when other states governor are struggling to pay minimum wage, Obiano is able to increase salaries based on the foundation laid by Peter Obi!

If you check news archives on the internet, you will find out at a time Jonathan tried to forcefully withhold Excess crude revenue for states within the framework of the SWF but governors under NGF threatened to go to court - Nevertheless Aregbesola and Oshiomole took advantage of this and lied that Jonathan still held their funds during the electioneering campaigns because to beg Jonathan for bailout during elections, would only give Jonathan/PDP Political mileage in an election year.

You will find out that Jonathan never had any issues paying salaries; it was the state governors who did. Under Buhari's time, I know someone who received november as at 3rd week of december, that never happened during Jonathan's time!

Imagine how Nigeria would have been if all governors supported Jonathan/Nkonjo's effort and jointly saved in the SWF framework?? Imagine if Buhari didn't have to cough out trillions of Naira to do bailout for state governors!!?? Just imagine if all states followed anambra's example and accumulated savings in dollars; we will never be feeling the pangs of a potential head on collision with a recession!!

Unfortunately, government is a majority politicians game where intellectual administrators - the minority in this case - are concerned. The Minority will have their say but the Majority will always have their way!!
