I doubt this story based on the following reasons:

There is no way to transfer money online without use of token, password and answer to the security question.

So even if they succeeded in accessing your mails, don't tell me you stored your online bank password and security question answer there and they stole your token also.

if the story is true, reporting to the bank should have been the first line of action.

This story seems pathetic but d truth must be told, u indeed ve ur part to share in d blames, immeditely such thing happened, ur first point of call should ve been ur bank to give a standing order on ur accounts, u should ve aletted them that no e-transactions should be allowed on ur accounts with them.
After d instructions to d banks taken then u proceed to correction of d SIM palaver. Good day

My name is Adetoke Oluwo. I feel it is necessary I share my story so as to shed light to the way fraudsters dupe unsuspecting Nigerians and also to expose the shady AIRTEL STAFF who aided them.

My purse with other documents and ID cards were stolen last year April and as usual, I got an affidavit for it.
This year January, I got a call from Airtel Ibadan concerning a sim swap I wanted to do in Ibadan (I work and live in Lagos). I immediately informed them that it's fraud when
they told me the person brought one of the id cards that was stolen.
I immediately went to AIRTEL IKEJA CITY MALL to report and told them to flag and fortify security on my sim as my Airtel line is connected to all my Bank accounts. I even asked how it was possible for anybody to walk in and almost swapped my sim without any form of security . The staff said they will do something about it.
On Thursday night, 4th of February, I noticed my network was down and I waited till Friday to go report and they told me to wait for hours. THEY DID NOT TELL ME MY SIM HAD BEEN SUCCESSFULLY SWAPPED BY FRAUDSTERS, The Staff tried to hide it and told me to fill a form of sim replacement. I did not know at that point that my money was being moved as I sat there!!!
I left the Office and discovered on my other phone that 400 THOUSAND NAIRA HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED FROM MY GTB ACCOUNT THROUGH MOBILE MONEY WITH THAT NUMBER ALL THE WHILE MY SIM WAS DOWN FROM THURSDAY NIGHT TO FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
My email address must have been seen in one of the documents stolen, and the number is where Yahoo would send my recovery password to. All it took them was to SWAP MY SIM and click on forget password to access my email that had my Bank details saved.
It was when I went back to AIRTEL IKEJA CITY MALL to shout that the Staff told me my Sim had been Swapped. Before they lied that it was damaged and told me to fill a form for REPLACEMENT! !!

I requested for the Staff who swapped my sim for this FRAUDSTERS and they refused to say anything. They even harassed me and sent me out of their store for causing nuisance.

This money is meant to be part of the Course I saved a Year for to go study in London, I was maltreated and duped and an AIRTEL STAFF AIDED THE FRAUDSTERS. EVEN AFTER I COMPLAINED SINCE JANUARY FOR MY SIM TO BE FORTIFIED!!

BECAUSE HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE WHO ISN'T ME TO SUCCESSFULLY SWAP MY LINE WHEN THEY HAD MY PICTURE RIGHT INFRONT OF THEM!!!

PLEASE SHARE SO I CAN GET MY MONEY BACK, SO JUSTICE CAN BE DONE, SO OTHER NIGERIANS TOO CAN LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND PROTECT THEMSELVES. PLEASE SHARE.

Something like this actually happened to me in July 2014, my Airtel sim just stopped working on a Tuesday. I thought it was network issues, by Thursday over #500k left my bank account. I raised alarm and d Bank was able to lien recipient accounts because the transfers was done within same Bank. In all I lost just the 60k that had been withdrawn through ATM. My bank informed me to visit my service provider b/c someone must had swapped my line for such fraud to have happened. On getting to Airtel shop at Iwo road Ibadan, I was told I needed a letter from the commissioner of police before they can release details of who swapped my line which I found ridiculous. I had to let the case go after getting #480k out of d money back and I had to report at work in osun. Since then i stopped using the useless network. I wonder what happened to data captured during sim registration and id card they collect

Get EFCC briefed. and your bank must get the recipient account and account details so as to track the account owner and the sender if not the sender himself. Using mobile apps is now scaring. God help us.

Airtel is becoming funny and a big "cheat". They have developed various means to be defrauding innocent citizens. Same way I was treated when someone sent N5,000 worth of credit to my airtel line and since I am on postpaid package an won't be needing it, I begged that it be moved to my wife's Airtel line. All what I heard was that, it wouldn't be possible. Same way I lost N3,000 credit last month. I am sure by the time to do this to several customers, they will be swindling us with millions of Naira. Another crime against humanity by Telco!

Re: Fraudsters Swap Lady's Airtel Sim And Steal Her N400,000 by amalektch: 5:47pm On Feb 06, 2016
I read this with amazement. This is partly yours and the banks fault.
1. On learning that your sim was stolen, the very first thing to do was CHANGE ALL PASSWORDS connected to your bank accounts and retrieval methods for your password...
2. Your banks are quite primitive really. No serious bank sends lost passwords by email. Rather when you click to retrieve a lost password, you should get a link asking you to reset your password. This requires prior knowledge of the old password which would be only known to you. Lastly, passwords are typically linked to devices, that means if I attempted to login in to my own bank account from a different computer of mobile phone, the bank would ask me to provide additional information such as answers to secret questions I set previously before I am allowed to access my bank info. In some cases, it would require the use of a code sent to an external phone number that I only would have access to. Wow.

Pls don't relent in engaging the necessary stakeholders in this fight. EFCC , CPC and telecommunications unions. Facebook and other social platforms will help you to make them realize their inefficiency.
This change must blow through Airtel and their affiliated fraudsters. Please forward your evidence to conventional media outfit as well.

They withdrew 400k from your account via mobile money? What is mobile money? The only mobile transfer I know is possible from your story is the gtbank SMS transfer ,and even with that the fraudsters will ultimately need the last 4 digits of your ATM card to successfully use it. And the SMS transfer has a limit 50k and 20k to gtbank and other bank accounts respectively.
So its either the story is false or not well constructed.
Cos certainly your funds would have been transferred to a bank account which is linked to a bvn and getting such person's bio data won't be so difficult for the police and the bank.

Pray never to be a victim. This OP uses either internet banking or mobile money. Its nothing hard. U can create in in a jiffy.

And for the receiver of d stolen funds. The only genuine details u would have is d picture. Which might lead u to no where

I can explain how this is done. For u. The receiver account would be on another Innocent persons bvn

Do u know I can open an account with ur bvn?

I just need I'd with ur name and address and other info. Without ur awareness. The acc will be working on ur bvn.

Nigerian banking system is also full of less cyber intelligent ppl

1st. All this ppl opening bank account under the bridge and in d markets should be stopped with immediate effect.

You are quite wrong. Regardless of whether you have a token device or not you can send money from any GTBANK account to any account if you have access to the phone number registered to the account and the last 4 digits of the ATM using their *737* short code. I was surprised when I discovered this and complained in an email to GT but they dismissed my concern as a non issue.

She is also not IT security savy.

Immediately u lost the purse...the first thing u should have done is change all your passwords (ATM pin, Internet banking log on, e mail password etc.).

U can even ask your bank to block the atm card. The fraud happened weeks after your purse was stolen.

After saying all this, SIM swap should not be an easy thing to do unless u didn't register your line as directed by ncc. All properly registered lines will be very difficult to swap by fraudsters. It has to be you or no swap.
