The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday launched an
empowerment scheme aimed at creating a new set
of entrepreneurs among members of the National
Youth Service Corps and fresh graduates.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, who
launched the Youth Initiative Entrepreneurship
Development Programme for corps members, said
the scheme would be implemented by the central
bank and Heritage Bank.

He said the initiative would enable serving corps
members as well as fresh graduates with good
business ideas to assess N3m to start up their
business.

The governor stated that while the loan would be
given to corps members at single digit interest rate,
they would be required to deposit their NYSC
discharge certificates as collateral for the credit
facility.

According to him, the bank is targeting 10,000 youth
corps members in the pilot phase of the scheme,
adding that this would help to create about one
million direct jobs in the next four years.

straight to d point, I feel if CBN and FG are serious about the loan, den dat is d only thing they can ask for as collateral..

here are my reasons...

*d loan is meant for entrepreneurs who can turn thousands to millions..

* CBN doesn't expect such entrepreneurs to have houses or lands cos d guess is, they have ideas and need money to make d ideas useful for dem and d nation. (d only valuable thing is d NYSC cert)

*dis is Nigeria, u can't trust anybody with 3million and not demand for a collateral...naija youth go run with d money..(u knw wat I mean)

*I think it is fair enough...so dat beneficiaries can b traced..

yea..some pple will sacrifice dia cert for it..

some pple can let go of dia bsc,HND or wateva certificate for as low as 3mil..

many have lost hope cos of hardship in d country.
