Governors should cut down on their extravagant spending and political appointees so that there will be enough money to pay workers in their respective state. This is a lame excuse.

When I say Rochas Okorocha is too futuristic and realistic people will argue. The only sustainable means of maintaining heavy wage bill is commercialisation of parastatals so that they can raise funds enough for staff payment with Government paying little or no subsidy. It is still early right now but later the Okorocha model will be adopted by both States and FG.

HH BAYELSA GOVERNOR:

BAYELSA HAS 9 LOCAL GOVTS. WITH MONTHLY WAGES BILL OF N4 BILLION IS ALARMING FIGURE.

WHAT WILL THEN BE THE WAGE BILLS OF LAGOS, OYO, RIVERS AND DELTA STATES.

HOW MANY POLITICAL APPOINTEES ON YOUR PAY - ROLL. MR GOVERNOR SIR, LOOK INWARD AT YOUR POLITICAL AND GOD FATHER AND MOTHER APPOINTEES AND ROYALTIES.

SMALL STATE AS BAYELSA SPENDING THAT AMOUNT IS DISAPPOINTING.

YOU NEED TO EMPLOY THE SERVICES OF WELL INFORMED CONSULTANTS TO LOOK CRETICAL INTO YOUR EXPENDITURES.

ASK YOUR THIS QUESTION ? WHAT WILL I BE REMEMBERED FOR AFTER MY TENURE ?

My brother Our politicians na scam them be all aswear

They are real scam. And the most annoying thing is that our so called youths are yet to come to term with this reality. We support them without reasoning. And the politicians know this. The day we realize this and say no to their scam, that's the beginning of the long overdue revolution in this country

Okonjo iweala said in 2014; that On a per capita basis, the top three recipients of FAAC
allocations in 2013 were
-Bayelsa (N84,500 or $545 per annum),
- Akwa Ibom (N55,600 or $360 per annum) and - - Delta (N42,000 or $270 per annum), adding that on a per capita basis, many Nigerian states performed much better than neighbouring countries such as Ghana ($255 per annum), Benin Republic ($146 annum), Liberia ($103 annum) and Gambia ($117 annum).
IMAGINE A NIGERIAN STATE HAVING A HIGHER PER CAPITA INCOME THAN GHANA AND HAVING NO SAVINGS FOR RAINY DAYS.

Why don't the federal govt shrink the number of states for goodness sakes. The central govt does not have a lot of money to sustain the governor's, lawmakers and civil servants of the various 36 states anymore.

My wish is that the oil should dry off or the price falls to $3 per barrel. When this happens only men and women who are creative will seek political offices. At moment allocation from federation account is what pushing every politician to contest for governorship position.

Mr common sense please, proffer common sense on how to deal with the issue. In addition to what you will say, always remember to tell the Gov to cut the cost of his legislators and his aides. Mr common sense, please don't forget to tell your colleague in the Senate that their Jumbo pay is no more sustainable. Halve their salaries can put a lot of Nigerians to work.

Just making common sense.
Well said.

I get annoyed when I read stories like this. Bayelsa is a state with 8lga's and an oil producing state with huge monthly allocation, what is the work strength of the state civil service that such a small state will have a monthly wage bill of 4 billion naira? Anambra state with 21 LGA 's or their about increased wages and are not borrowing to pay, same for Enugu, and ebonyi states. I was mad when I heard delta states monthly wage bill is close to 8billion naira and the gGovernor is struggling to pay. In delta state for instance, it is obvious we have an over bloated civil service where most workers hardly go to work. The worst is even desopadec, I can count a good number of desopadec staff who do two jobs and u hardly see them in desopadec office except at month ends. These things show that , its hardly about money but about leadership. We have men and women who are in positions of authority with no clear agenda on how to provide credible, innovative leadership. It is very unfortunate.

Very very very unfortunate. Bayelsa civil service placed embargo on employment many years ago. Lots of people are retired from the civil service monthly without replacement.
The civil service is Bayelsa is nothing to write home about.
The govt relies only on monthly allocation.
All other internally generated revenues are never accounted for.
The state Govt is nothing but a very very very very BIG Fraud.
