According to the Federal Government drive to making the cost of doing business cheap in Nigeria, do you know that registering a business name, limited liability companies and other allied dealing with the Corporate Affairs Commission is now very easy & faster and can be done by the first directors, proprietors and trustees (promoters).
If you need assistance as regards the particulars of a proposed company, stamping of documents, pre-incorporation documentation, filing of incorporation documents, registration and incorporation, preliminary matters after incorporation (Company Seal, FIRS TIN, EFCC SCUML, Corporate Bank Opening) & Post incorporation (annual returns, changes in memorandum, removal or appointing directors, change of company name, increase in share capital).
We are also professionals in trademarks, patents, copyrights & special designs; NAFDAC registration, NIPC registration, NEPC registration and other government special registration, taxation (TCC, VAT & CIT returns) etc.
We have assisted over 200 hundred promoters, clients in Nigeria and Diaspora with our all inclusive corporate service. You can contact us for more information and inquiries via call or Whatsapp on 08107804290.

So you want to open a business and you know nothing of how to get started, well NO WORRIES.
You do not need to find a lawyer, a chartered Accountant or an agent. All you need is an ATM Master Card and an internet connection. The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) now has an on line portal that makes life easy for all potential entrepreneurs and Businessmen in Nigeria.

To register A company the first step is to

STEP 1: Search for availability of Name - Visit http://services.cac.gov.ng/ sign up as a new customer and provide all necessary details accurately. Once you are properly signed in click on 'Name availability Search' type in two names that are creative and uncommon as your proposed business name and try to avoid cliché names. Fill the form with your best Email address and Phone number and submit the form when done. The submission of the form would costs N500 and can be paid using you master card, visa card, verve card, on line banking etc.
The name search would take one to two working days to be approved or disapproved. If disapproved try again With a different and more unique name.

STEP 2: Register the Business name - Once your name has been approved the next step is to register the business name. Log in to your account with CAC and once logged in click on 'action' and download the the letter of approval from the CAC portal, open it and take note of the approval number.
Go back to the website, Click on 'Registration' on the top left of the webpage select business name and paste the number from the approval document on the space provided click on enter. Ensure you know the nature of the business, proprietors of the business and all other relevant information accurately. NOTE: You can 'save and exit' the form at any point where you have difficulties.

* When it comes to nature of the business ensure that you type in three (3) nature of business and it is always a good idea to add General contracts so you do not need to get another business name in the future as, General contracts encompasses everything. (I made the mistake of not adding General contracts and I had to apply with an additional cost of N6000 to get it changed and it was a stressful process)

Fill the form Accurately avoid Mistakes as a Correction would cost you more money and waste your Time.
Now one important thing is When asked if you need additional copies of Certified true copy and documents, select Zero as this is applicable to only those who are registering a limited liability company.

Submit the form and Pay N10,000 for the business name using you ATM card. You would be given a form to submit to the CAC office in your selection.

STEP 3: Physical Submission - Download and print and make two photocopies of
- All receipt of payment from Remitta and CAC,
- The approval of business name document
- The form you received upon payment for business name
Take these documents with two passport Photographs, N250 stamp duty fee - to be paid into CAC Skye Bank Account (you can do this before going to the office the bank has the account number) and submit for filing with the corporate Affairs commission.

I hope this information was helpful to you. Leave a comment and tell me how it goes for you.

Thanks... finally I submitted my application today! phew!!! Please include the payment for the business reg form. stamp is no longer needed for just business name except limited. If you are submitting in Ibadan. you can get the form at the back of CAC for 300 naira instead of going to bank to stress yourself.

You'll have to type your business info on the form with a typewriter. Don't worry, those people at the back of CAC that sold you the form will help you type it. They have a typewriter.

I don't thiink you need a consent code to register a business name unless you are registering a name with investments, mutual funds, securities or bank. With this names included you will need authorization from relevant regulatory agencies (eg CBN, SEC etc).

I will like to also categorically say that a (promoters, proprietors, directors etc) should be mindful of their nature of business or objectives. Names like Education (NCE for Primary, B.Ed for Secondary and M.Ed for Post Secondary Schools), Advertising & Marketing will need APCON certification, Engineering or Construction will need COREN etc. There are more and others included.

Names like Marine, Sea Transport & any business on sea will need at least 25 million shares capital. Acting as trustees in a Limited will need 10 million shares, like that and so on.

The truth is that care must be the watchword when filling CAC forms, so as not to be on the queried side of the Commission.

You can feel to Whatsapp or call us on 08107804290 for more questions and inquiries.

Why did i do mine and I was charged to pay N22,000.00? Besides too, when you fill the online form from the beginning and you are registering a company for somebody where you are neither the owner or amongst the directors, you will still see your name appear on the incorporation form which you are to print out with the passport photographs for physical submission.

Please be correct with your writings here. Cheers

NIN ====> National Identification Number. Every 18 and above Nigerian is expected to have that number. Go to the Local Government Secteriat close to you and get registered. You will need that number for even when processing the business name and other stuffs.

I started my business name registration yesterday using the directions from this thread and by today my business name has being approved. I'm going further to register the business name later today and take it step by step till all is done.

Thanks so much for this, really helpful.

Though 2 changes to the process:
1) There no need for stamp duty when registering a Business Name
2) CAC no longer does physical form submission in some states, to confirm you state first. Once complete the forms can be scanned and submitted online via http://new.cac.gov.ng/home/
click on document upload.

I still don't understand why the commission has 3 different websites, but overall i think their web portal is quite responsive.

Yes very convenient.
Though that's after you've gotten the availability code, and paid the 10,000.
The site will request for a scanned copy of all:
1) Application Form (with passport photograph affixed)
2) Payment Receipts
3) Availability approval page.
4) depending on nature of business you might need to attach a proficiency certificate.

Hope that helps.

Ignore the mail. I got same, went to their office only to be directed to their online portal to upload the documents.
The mail is auto-generated and it seems the database administrator forgot to remove it when the process was changed.
Bottom line, go to the site I posted earlier and upload all the documents, remember to affix a passport photo to the application form.

Hope this helps
