Do Banks Now Charge Monthly Fee On Savings Account? by Nobody: 5:57am On Mar 05, 2016
Please, I need to find out if I should be storming First Bank on Monday. I got a message this morning saying my account has been debited with N100. On a normal day I don't read these texts but I did this morning because just a few days ago, I was debited for SMS alert long before being notified. It affected my withdrawal at the ATM. That memory is still fresh and now this? I am running a savings account and I'm only aware of new charges on current accounts. I know there are yearly maintenance fees on every account so where exactly is this fee coming from? What kind of scam is these? I should be earning interest on my savings account not paying random fees that serve no purpose. Please, does anybody understand what is going on?

Mods please do the needful.

I am certainly as confused as you are because thats the first message I saw on my phone this morning at about 5:19AM precisely. Where all this charges emanates from still baffles me; SMS alert, charges for more than three times withdrawal or so, stamp duty, VAT, Monthly fee, annual account maintenance charges, and the list goes on for just a savings account. The funny thing is; there seem to be nothing we can do about it, we are handicapped and thus swallows anything thrown at us by either our government or private sectors.
I just wish someone will clear the air here so we get fully informed on this new policies for firstbank saving account holders.
OP maybe you should beckon on the mods for wider coverage.
