Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the military to prepare equipment to help evacuate Filipinos in the Middle East in case open hostilities erupt. Duterte called for an emergency meeting with defense officials on Sunday to discuss how U.S.-Iran tensions could impact on the safety of Philippine citizens in the Middle East, especially those in Iran and Iraq, the Department of Defense said in a statement. Gulf States Move to Prevent Escalation After Soleimani’s Killing The Middle East is the Philippines’ largest destination for land-based workers with deployment at more than 1 million annually, according to latest government data. The region also is the second-largest source of cash remittances from overseas Filipinos, based on central bank data. There are 6,000 Philippine citizens in Iraq and 1,600 in Iran, according to the Department of Defense. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-01-06/philippines-prepares-to-evacuate-citizens-in-middle-east |
That is old news na... The deal didn't even pull through sef.... Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, senior U.S. State Department official Ryan Crocker flew to Geneva to meet with Iranian diplomats who were under the direction of Soleimani with the purpose of collaborating to destroy the Taliban . [2] This collaboration was instrumental in defining the targets of bombing operations in Afghanistan and in capturing key Al-Qaeda operatives, but abruptly ended in January 2002, when President George W. Bush named Iran as part of the " Axis of evil " in his State of the Union address. |

Trump2020:They have been tracking him for months..he let down his guard..... If not for arrogance or the urgency of the stupid meeting he had in Iraq with the other militia, he wouldn't have been brought down. |
daroz:how should I know?....but can the death/assaination of a terrorist no matter how high ranking he may be in any country, cause friction and unrest among those in the corridors of power( the world powers), to the point of many forseeing WW3, should any side make any wrong move..again.. for your information Qassam Soleimani was the Middle East's most recognized military commander, strategist and operational chief of Iran's militant proxies and a symbol of its regional ambitions. |
GamalNasser:Qassem Soleimani, Commander of the Iranian armed forces, a mere terrorist hahahahaha... You are the one who need to wake up bro |
LegendHero:The attack on the Iranian commander shows he has already bypassed the Congress not just this once, but several times. |
Bigflamie:Death to who Iran... Do you know anything at all about the Iranians and their allies..... . If the US should declare war on Iran then it has also declared war on Iraq, China, Russia, the US might come out victorious but it gonna be bloody on their side... And this Iranians are, fight to death they don't give a care, the kamikaze the Japanese engage in will be child play compared to the Iranians in the long run.... |
° Could this be the beginning of world War 3. The top commander of the Iranian military, general Qassem Soleimani, who spearheaded operations in the middle east and his killing marks, behind major tension between the Washington and Tehran. Was killed in an air strike by the US army. On Friday January 2020. BBC defence and diplomatic correspondent Jonathan Marcus has said that. "While some have described the killing of Soleimani as "a declaration of war" by the United States against Iran. This will not prompt World War Three. Because, The key actors who might be involved in such a conflict, for example Russia and China, are not significant players in this drama." And we hope they aren't. The attack which was said to have occurred at Baghdad airport, while Soleimani was on his way from Iraq to Iran, which did not only claim his life but also the life of an Iraqi-Iranian politician Abu al-Muhandis. Was seen by some as an assaination attempt. While some viewed it as a retaliation attempt against the attack of the US embassy at Baghdad. "Soleimani was plotting imminent and sinister attacks on American diplomats and military personnel but we caught him in the act and terminated him," Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort. "We took action last night to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war Trump said. Security being heightened in the US and most of its embassy following air strike. Law enforcement agencies across the country are deploying additional patrols and urging civilians to be vigilant. Meanwhile, U.S. military units are on high alert to protect some American embassies in Africa and the Middle East. Security alerts are issued for U.S. embassies in Bahrain, Kuwait and Nigeria. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the "world cannot afford" another Gulf war. "The secretary-general has consistently advocated for de-escalation in the Gulf," a spokesman for Guterres said in a statement. "This is a moment in which leaders must exercise maximum restraint. The world cannot afford another war in the Gulf." Thousands of people marched, on Saturday in a funeral procession through Baghdad for Soleimani and Iraqi militant leaders who were killed in Friday's strike. Streets were packed with sadness, shock and anger.. The procession started in Baghdad at one of the most revered sites among Shiite Muslims, the Imam Kadhim shrine, Mourners, who carried Iraqi flags and flags of militias backed by Iran, were also mourning senior Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. People chanted "No, No, America" and "Death to America, death to Israel." Even Iraq's Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi was seen among the crowd. Meanwhion Friday criticized the US killing of a top Iranian military commander and called for restraint and calm. With Moscow warning that the killing of Soleimani would boost tensions across the Middle East, calling it “an adventurist step.” And China appealed for restraint from all sides, “especially the United States,” after the attack. “China has always opposed the use of force in international relations,” Chines Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said “We urge the relevant sides, especially the United States, to remain calm and exercise restraint to avoid further escalating tensions.” He said Iraq’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity must be respected. China and Russia, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, are key partners of Iran. Britain did not criticize the action but joined the call for calm. Germany too urged restraint and deescalation. “We are at a dangerous point of escalation. It is now important through prudence and restraint to contribute to de-escalation,” said Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokeswoman Ulrike Demme Iraq’s deputy parliament speaker said an emergency parliament session was set for Saturday to discuss the US air strike. Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned of “severe revenge” for “the criminals who bloodied their foul hands with his blood”, and vowed that “God willing, his work and his path will not be stopped. https://www.timesofisrael.com/france-russia-and-china-condemn-slaying-of-soleimani-as-a-destabilizing-act/ https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-50982298 https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/01/iran-tensions-latest-updates-200103022407743.html https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/qassem-soleimani-top-iranian-military-commander-killed-in-us-airstrike-in-baghdad-2020-01-05/
