Nigeria imports almost everything, forex is required to facilitate these imports, oil price drops, there is now a scarcity of forex in the country, the price of forex goes up due to this scarcity and now someone who is bragging about being educated is asking why price of commodities are going up?

Nigerians are not importing sachet water nor water melons.

Fuel scarcity and power outages are not a result exchange rate where "crude for refined product" system is applied.

Already, most of our importation are no more dependent on CBN reserve as most Nigerian businesses are now registered and based in Benin Republic and Cameroon were their Governments finance the imports.

GEJ met $47bn left $29bn despite unrivaled earnings.
PMB met $29bn and has increased it to $32bn despite diminished earnings.

Under GEJ, Nigeria became a laughing stock and got mocked and ridiculed even by Ghana, Benin and SA not to talk of the Western world.

Under PMB, Nigeria is gaining back her respectful place once again.

the Cbn have no dollar talk more of selling to all importers, the fuel scarcity we experience is as a result of low price of crude oil, Nigerian fuel refining capacity cannot serve the whole country, hence the need to import refined fuel, The importers are already running out of dollars already to continue their business.

Lol.. Like seriously?? U obviously have no idea what is going on or how d whole foreign exchange thing works. BDC's (bureau DE change operators) and anyone needing foreign exchange used to get it from the CBN (find out about the form A and B) but d new restrictions included BDC's and some import items and as such dealers in those items and d BDC's had to go source for forex elsewhere. As for d current fuel scarcity, it has nothing to do with our refining capacity because our refineries have being comatose and totally non functional even though d present govt wants to make u believe it still refines at some level and as such d nation has always depended on oil imports. Even Mr. Kachikwu recently affirmed that. So I wonder where u get ur own facts and info from. We all need dis govt to com gud but we don't need to make excuses for dem.

The hardest person to wake is the person who feigns his/her sleep... Similarly, it's quite frustrating explaining things to people who have wilfully permitted political/ethnic/religious sentiments block their ability to comprehend even the most basic things of life.

Even a junior secondary school student should be able to understand the link between the scarcity of forex in an import dependent country and the price of basic commodities. Every single person in one way or the other, directly or indirectly is affected by the forex scarcity, even for home made commodities, the price of raw materials for their production has gone up and this affects the end price.

You cited the pure water example claiming pure water isn't imported, if you haven't wilfully forced this 'intellectual sleep' on yourself, you should know that pure water manufacturers import machinery, spare parts and even some of the synthetic materials (polythene) they use in packaging your pure water and if these raw material/production costs go up, it affects the cost of their end product. The link below is just one report detailing why you may have to pay more for pure water, I'm sure even a kid should be able to comprehend this.

Finally, you don't need a basic or advanced course in economics to know this, all you need is just #CommonSense.

Where is the place of demand in your thesis?

Demand has drastically decreased by 200% hence your curve is not realistic. Simple.

There is no scarcity on essential goods until demand exceeds supply.

Tomatoes are still selling less than their market value.

Fear and uncertainty induced by Buhari's government economic policy is the problem

Chaii... and this woman continues to embarrass herself. It appears you just completed an economics lecture with all these your confused economic pronouncements?... I just told you the cost of production/packaging for pure water has increased due to scarcity/high cost of forex and this had led to the increase in price. But you are still here talking about demand?

Nothing like increase in cost of production, all legitimate manufacturing industries still receive forex at N199 to a $ and moreover, lower oil price has reduced the cost of imported spare parts to barest minimum.

you have move to tomato.
The fall in tomato price is as a result of Glut. which is increase in supply bt decrease in demand.

You must be joking right?... Lower oil price has reduced cost of raw materails?

I just gave you a link explaining how pure water producers complain of lack/high cost of forex to import polythene and you still argue that oil price should reduce that too right?
http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/dollar-scarcity-2-million-kano-youths-to-be-sacked-as-pure-water-factories-close-down.190546/

In your own wisdom and understanding, low oil price would also reduce the price of imported machinery and spare parts right?... I suppose you are only pulling my legs right?... Dont tell me you are serious about what you've just said?

ask urself what led to dollar restrictions? it is oil price slump leading to low dollar inflow. Jonathan spent $5 billion dollars from our reserve to defend the dollar between january to april 2015 when the oil slump started or is it buhari's policy

It's actually d other way around.. Oil price slump leading to slide of the naira because like we all know we import basically everything... read dis

D CBN didn't and haven't complained of dollar scarcity. Infact it's actually due to too much dollar dat our naira is falling lol. Why is it almost everyone is calling for the ban to be relaxed?? Read the various reports and interviews of Mr Kachikwu urself on d lingering fuel scarcity. Remember it was blamed on the I'll advised NNPC strike and den sabotage. If d CBN can make forex available to dangote to dat amount, how den can u say dey have no dollar??

Dangote Group is currently building what is considered to be the single largest refinery in the world, capable of processing 650,000 barrels of oil per day. When completed, the refinery would make Nigeria self-sufficient in petroleum products and a net exporter to other countries in West Africa. The fertilizer plant would be able to produce 2.8 million metric tonnes per annum of urea and ammonia.
.
Dangotes project is the solution to our dollar scarcity in 2 years time, hence the need for the country to invest in the project which will bring in high forex in the country, The forex restriction was nt meant for manufacturers bt people who want to continue importing without exporting. and the project will also remove the importation of fuel frm our forex reserve. So its a big investment no one on his right senses will turn down.

So u finally concurred then dat dollar no scarce and d CBN has enof. D govt encourages import of petroleum products by way of subsidy because dey cannot meet d nation's oil demands. So therefore u cannot claim marketers can't access funds.

What is sad is that we are wasting our time comparing Jonathan to anyone. Jonathan's government brought nothing tangible to Nigerians. We are still struggling with power supply, road, education, security, etc. So why compare him at all? If eventually Buhari fails after 4years in office, he is also not worth comparing to anyone. Jonathan failed Nigerians and we should move on from him and what he stood for. He should never be the topic of any serious Nigerian conversation. The only Nigerians that could talk about Jonathan are the Comedians because their job is to crack Jokes, and jonathan was a Joke. Lets leave him in the past where he belongs. The fact that Nigerians are still thinking about Jonathan and comparing anyone with him is scary because this translates to, "We wont mind another Jonathan in the future, because Jonathan was very Bad, but not very verry veerry Bad".

I do not want to consider any past, future or prepubescent Nigerian president that is "Okay but Bad", "Manageable but Bad", "Good but Bad", "Good but sometimes Bad", in short, I do not want the next Nigerian President to be "Bad" in any way, shape or form!!!
