Jo Bonfere: What Super Eagles lacked that denied team AFCON 2019 Glory
by Imhons Erons July 21, 2019 in AFCON, News, Nigeria

Ex Nigeria coach Jo Bonfere has spoken on why the country’s national football team did not return from the continental games with the trophy.

Nigeria lost to the eventual champions Algeria in the semifinal but went on to defeat Tunisia to pick up the bronze medal.

Twenty members of the 23-man squad were debuting for the Eagles at the AFCON while 18 of them were either 25 years old or younger.

The Dutchman, who guided Nigeria’s Dream Team to an unbelievable gold medal triumph at the Atlanta 96 Olympic Games, believe the team could have performed better.

Bonfere is however optimistic that the future is brighter with the current crop of players in the team.

“They lacked tactics and cohesion at the Nations Cup. They were not creating the scoring chances be expected, but the players are young, they are good individually and if well managed, yes, they can do it (in future),” Bonfrere said.

“Nigeria has plenty talents. They are young and they can play together more. Yes, it will be a good team in the future”.

The veteran coach, who also won the Africa Cup of Nations silver medal with the Super Eagles in 2000, was quick to admit that Algeria deserved to win the AFCON 2019 title.

“The final was great, Senegal was good but, yes, Algeria played more tactics. They are the worthy champions of Africa.”

German Tactician Says Super Eagles Defender Has Bright Prospect
by Augustine July 21, 2019 in News, Nigeria

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has commended the quality of Jamiu Collins at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Collins featured prominently in games against Cameroon, South Africa, Algeria and Tunisia at the bi-annual tournament and displayed strong maturity despite being his debut.

However, the German tactician told Sport1 that Collins has a German mentality and has a future ahead of him.

“Very important. This is a player who is offensively and defensively very strong. His left foot is very valuable to us – in a team where there are hardly any left-footers.

”I followed all the great games with Paderborn and I was very happy for him and his colleagues for the promotion.

”Collins is a player with a German mentality: He is a tough, serious worker who also does extra sessions on days off and after practice. That is good for all of Africa. ”

“Collins had suffered a slight muscle injury in the final session before his first game against Burundi and had to rest for a few days.

”But then he needed to get back into the team. Although it is difficult to change a successful team

You mean a bench tool?? U think Klopp and Guardiola will sign a player that played his first season of professional football last year and rush him into their lineup ?
He will be a bench warmer there and it could stall his progress.
You don't necessary have to be playing under a Klopp or Guardiola before u know some basic skills like crossing into the 18 yard box...
must he cross the damn ball into the 18 yard box? How often does neymar cross the ball into the 18 yard box?. All I want samu to develop is the ability to cut in, and place banana-like shot into the damn net. He should develop his dribbing skill. I do not belong to the camp like komekn that want him to cut off his excesses dribbling, cos if he do that, he gonna lost his flow and edge. He should try as much as possible to effectively use his dribbling skill to tear down defence and place banana-like shot into the damn net. I want him to be selfish with the ball.

If you look at the way Sana, Raheem, Aguero and Gabriel play for Many city. Dribbling without end product in the modern game is simply NONSENSE FOOTBALL ENTERTAINMENT and will lead you nowhere.

We Africans love it but European football looks at it only when there is consistent continous top class outstanding END PRODUCT. Without that, it becomes unnecessary excessive noise making.

He will be very wise to stay at Villareal and learn and develop more. It's better to improve and create consistency and long term career progression than short term gains that may not enhance his career.

Victor Osimhen was totally woeful and a huge DISSAPOINTMENT.

I expected him to get on that pitch like a caged Lion seize his OPPORTUNITY l was filled with excitement and anticipation. Instead he was Running around like a headless chicken and couldn't impose himself on the games had zero physicality and it's not like he has mesmerising skills.

He has a long way to go hopefully as it seems he is going to French league one. Which is a lot tougher than the Belguim league he will have to STEP UP HIS GAME. Otherwise it will all go down like a flat tyre.

Chukwueze still has a lot to learn he would be wise to stay at Villareal and keep developing before going anywhere else.

We have a lot of young pretenders but nobody better clearly than the existing players. As it stands not one of the young pretenders can replace VICTOR Moses. They just do not have his quality YET.

See crowd...

Great reception. The players seeing such crowds welcome them, will feel more like a TRUE HERO-such a great honor. No amount of club trophies can be equated to 1 international trophy for one's nation.

How I wish Nigeria players can don the countries jersey and play with and for pride. But money is their only drive. It's a very rare privilege to lift an international trophy.

Instead for them to learn from their predecessors (2000-2010) generation of SEs who despite their potentials and talents failed consecutively to lift a single international trophy due to their lack of patriotism and loyalty to the GWG coupled with indiscipline. The likes of Martins, Yak, Osaze, Taiwo, Udeze, Obodo, Agahowa, Garba, Kalu Uche, etc will look back and regret failing themselves. Olympic Gold medal was Kanu's saving grace.Quality wise, that generation were the closest to the Golden generation
I don't think you should be putting Garba Lawal in the same sentence with "indiscipline" and "lack of patriotism"
He was one of our most dedicated players.

In summary, what Komekn has been trying to telling Chukwueze fan boys (which is virtually every Nigerian) is that unnecessary dribbling without end-product is Chukwueze's bane and the earlier he matures in his play, the better.

No team buys players for entertainment but to win games, the burden of which falls mainly on the attackers.

If he doesn't score, then a good assist would do his career a world of Good

Chukwueze, over to you!!!!

Exactly. Garba was very dedicated

Now Obodo was a true definition of indiscipline and was caught a few times in conflict with prostitutes during his time in Udinese.

I think one of his clubs also cut him from the team due to discipline issues.

Of course we know the real deals, young players who are not PRETENDERS but world class young quality with consistent continuous top quality outputs. Most people here are just too proud to admit it!
Young proven wingers like Seyi Ojo, Jordan Ibe, Ademola Lookman. I do not see a reason why Buhari should not be able to help us beg a top top quality striker like Dominic Solanke to lead our attack.
Crappy young pretenders like Chukwueze, Osimhen, Iheanacho, Onuachu or whatever his name is should go to Liverpool U23s to learn the basics of football.

Rohr took Gabon to AFCON quarter finals. Rohr qualified Niger for the AFCON.

Stop giving false informations.

And u are gonna compare the Gabonese stars of 2010-2013 to these craps that make up the Taifa stars?

Fabrice Do marcolino 20goals for Angers ligue1

Moise Apanga ligue1

Andre Poko - Bordeaux ligue1

Levy Madinda - Celta Vigo laliga

Junior Ndong - Auxerre ligue1

Eric Mouloungui - Nice ligue1

Daniel Cousin who once scored 26 goals for Lens in the ligue1

Aubemyang the best striker in the ligue1 - Ettienne

Lyod Palun - Nice ligue1

Stephane Nguema who was a forward for PSG a season before that tourney, he also was a former Rennes striker

Ecuele Manga one of the best Centre Backs in the ligue1 from 2010-14

Ekwa Ebanega - Auxerre ligue1

In Didier Ovono, they had one of the best goalkeepers in Africa then and also like many of his teams mates was plying his trade in the ligue1

So bro what took Gabon that far was individual brilliance and sheer luck bkus the squad oozed class (experienced quality players) playing at the highest level, it has little or nothing to do with Rohr's tactical prowess. In fact it was Rohr's tactical ineptitude that denied them a place in the Semis. Compare this squad to Tanzania who can only boast of Sammata in the Belgian league, then u will understand Rohr didnt do anything remarkable. In 19 games with these names in the team, Rohr could only win a paltry 8

And to that guy shouting that they beat Morroco, it was Chamakk's Morroco not Ziyech's. That Morrocan side was so poor, and player for player, they were no match for Gabon bkus Gabon paraded far better players individually. And they were not the Madagasis of 2012 thats so wrong bkus they had players, Madagascar doesn't. In fact some of our starters this year couldn't have started for that Gabonese side, at least I know that no reasonable coach would bench Auba for Ighalo or Manga of 2012 for Ekong of today grin

Big Decision Awaits Chukwueze After International Duties With Nigeria

Big Decision Awaits Chukwueze After International Duties With Nigeria

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be contended with a bronze medal as they ended their AFCON 2019 campaign with a win over Tunisia on Wednesday.

The players are expected to take a break from every football-related issue to regain their strength ahead of the upcoming season.

As for Samuel Chukwueze who had an impressive outing in Egypt, things could be a bit different for him as he needs to make a very important decision about his future.

The youngster's fame continues to gain steady recognition from top European clubs and he has a tough decision to make regarding his next club.

He was initially linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester City before the start of the AFCON tournament but his display in Egypt, especially against South Africa, could see him attract more suitors before the end of the summer transfer window.

He, however, needs to choose between the two Premier League clubs which isn't an easy thing to do based on the quality of managers in command of both teams.

Should he decide to opt for the Citizens, he will likely face an uphill task of breaking into Guardiola's starting lineup as he'll be up against Riyad Mahrez, Leroy Sané and Raheem Sterling.

He will likely face the same challenge if he does choose Liverpool ahead of Citizens as he will need to overcome Sadio Mane in the race for a spot in Jurgen Klopp's list of untouchables.

Though Chukwueze's quality is never in doubt, he must take his time to consult his agent and former players before making one of the toughest decisions in his young career.

Since making his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in 2018, Chukwueze has scored one goal but he's seen as the future of the team.

this fellow should learn from Iheanacho, me think he should still stay in spain and develop more but these agents have a way of trying to spoil players career due to their greed for more money, wishing chukwueze all the best
