I tell you. It has been productive thus far.

I really hope we get to qualify for all these age grade tourneys so we can attract our players from other countries from early on.

Possible Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers tipped to lead goals race in Holland

By admin -
August 14, 2017

Belgian striker Cyriel Dessers, who has already opted to play for the Super Eagles, has been widely tipped to be one of the stars in Holland this season should he be free of injury.

Dessers, whose mother is Nigerian, was a huge hit with Dutch club NAC Breda last season as his 22 goals (29 in all competitions) won them promotion back to the top league.

And this new season the former Lokeren striker has already started firing the goals after he smashed a brace for new club FC Utrecht at ADO Den Haag in the opening game of the new season.

The 22-year-old striker struck in the 15th and 81st minutes for his club to win 3-0 on the road.

Incidentally, Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi played the entire game for the losing team.

Nigeria’s defeat by Benin Republic in CHAN qualifier an eye opener

By . | Publish Date: Aug 14 2017 4:49PM

Tolulope Oguntimehin, the General Manager of Supreme Court FC, Abuja, on Monday described Benin Republic’s 1-0 victory over Nigeria in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier as an eye opener.

Oguntimehin said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Benin Republic had made history by defeating Nigeria for the first time in a football competition.

He said that a lot of work needed to be done on the home-based Super Eagles team if Nigeria must feature in the 2018 CHAN.

“It is an eye opener for us; we cannot afford not taking part in another competition in 2018.

“It is a big lesson for us that we need to up our game. I think the coaches need to do more, especially in the midfield and finishing.

“I am confident of Coach Salisu Yusuf that he can make it but we must put our house in order.

“The Nigeria Football Federation should provide the necessary assistance for the team to ensure they are comfortable and be focused in the second leg,’’ he said.

The home-based Super Eagles lost the first leg of their CHAN qualifying match against Benin Republic in Cotonou on Sunday courtesy of a goal scored in stoppage time.

The reverse fixture will be played at the weekend at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.‎ ‎

The 2018 CHAN edition will be hosted by Kenya from Jan. 11, 2018 to Feb. 2, 2018.

Garba Lawal believes CHAN Eagles will still qualify
By David Ngobua | Publish Date: Aug 14 2017 2:00AM

Despite suffering a slim 0-1 loss yesterday against the Squirrels of Benin Republic, former international Garba Lawal said he believes the CHAN Eagles will still qualify for the tournament in Kenya in 2018.

It took a 90th minute penalty for the Squirrels to beat the CHAN Eagles who put up a spirited fight.

The return leg will hold on Saturday in Kano and Lawal is optimistic that the Salisu Yusuf tutored lads will get the job done at home.

He told Daily Trust that from what he gathered, the Eagles gave a good account of themselves even as they missed some scoring chances.

“The advantage now is with Benin Republic but I still believe that CHAN Eagles would win the return fixture and qualify for the championship.

“I learnt they did not play badly. Moreover, they have seen the strength and weakness of their opponents and should be able to make the necessary adjustments.

“So I can say there is no serious cause for alarm. They did well because there are no more minnows in international football,” he said.

Manchester City Transfer News: Larry Kayode's Wife Fuels Shock Rumours

Gianni Verschueren

August 14, 2017

The wife of Austria Wien star Olarenwaju "Larry" Kayode has added fuel to the transfer rumours linking the forward with Manchester City, posting and then deleting a photo seemingly taken at the club's training ground.

According to Nigerian outlets (via the Manchester Evening News' Stuart Brennan), the Citizens are said to have signed the 24-year-old but will loan him out to Girona immediately.

Kayode's wife appeared to validate those reports by posting a photo taken in front of the training ground, but she deleted it shortly after. City Watch managed a screenshot of it before it was deleted:

The Nigeria international would certainly be a shock signing for the Citizens, who sold Kelechi Iheanacho―a far more highly touted compatriot―earlier this summer.

Kayode is a career journeyman who found limited success until he moved to Vienna in 2015. In Austria, he discovered a scoring touch that had somewhat eluded him during a stint with Maccabi Netanya in Israel, and his performances earned him a call-up to his country's national team.

The speedster isn't without skills, and his athletic abilities are impressive, as you can see in the video below:

But compared to Iheanacho, a player City developed themselves and who had already proven himself on the Premier League level at the young age of 20, Kayode's upside seems relatively limited. The fact he would immediately join Girona on loan suggests the Citizens don't see him as an impact player, either.

Per Brennan, City have close ties with Girona and are currently training near the Spanish club. If Kayode was purchased as a long-term investment, it's likely he would be sent to Spain on loan to develop further.

But followers of Nigerian football asked serious questions about the move, including Goal's Solace Chukwu, who was particularly hard in his assessment:

Per ESPN FC's Jonathan Smith, manager Pep Guardiola did urge the board to make more signings earlier this month, but it's hard to see what a relatively unknown player like Kayode would bring to the squad.

It's even harder to imagine exactly how he would be an improvement on Iheanacho, who scored four goals and added three assists in fewer than 530 minutes of Premier League action last season, per WhoScored.com.

Eight Takeaways From Home Eagles’ Shock Defeat To Benin Republic

 14 Aug 2017
 Features, Headlines

The home-based Super Eagles suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to neighbours Benin Republic in Sunday's African Nations Championship qualifier first leg.

Completesportsnigeria.com's JAMES AGBEREBI who was in Cotonou for the match highlights his observations before, during and after the match as the Nigerian side prepare for Saturday's return leg in Kano…

POOR OFFICIATING

One of the low points in the game between Benin Republic and the home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria was poor officiating by the Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal, mostly against Nigeria.

Together with his assistant referees and compatriots Mokrane Gourari and Mohammed Serradj, Ghorbal made calls that left much to be desired.

The rate at which Nigeria's attacking moves were halted and fouls given against them, it was glaring that the home team was being favoured.

However, there can be no complaints about the penalty awarded to the home-based Eagles, which was due to carelessness of the Nigeria defence.

POOR PITCH

It may sound as an excuse but one factor that may have affected the home-based Super Eagles was the poor pitch of the Stade de L'amite.

The Nigerians struggled to string two passes together which made it very difficult to initiate attacking moves.

From afar, the pitch looked level but a close look would reveal how uneven and cut up the pitch was with some patches grassy, some sandy.

But the terrible pitch was not a problem for the Beninoise; they did not find it difficult since they have very good knowledge of the ground, which was perfectly to their advantage.

THE BENIN REPUBLIC TEAM ARE NOT FANTASTIC

Despite defeating the home-based Eagles, one fact remains: the Benin Republic team was not fantastic.

Until the penalty was awarded, the home-based Eagles were holding their own and were occasionally creating openings which unfortunately were not converted into goals.

Going into the second leg in Kano on Saturday, the home-based Eagles can still overturn the 1-0 deficit provided they take their chances.

HOME-BASED EAGLES' VULNERABILITY IN SET PLAYS

One area which the home-based Eagles must work on ahead of the second leg in Kano on Saturday is on how to deal with aerial threats.

On five occasions in the 10th, 20th, 25th, 31st and 65th minutes, the Beninoises went very close to scoring from free-kicks with the home-based Eagles defenders caught napping.

A more clinical team would have capitalised on this weakness and punished the Nigerian side.

In the return leg in Kano, coach Salisu Yusuf and his coaching crew must sort this out to avoid being embarrassed at home.

TWO SETS OF NIGERIA FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS CLUB

The Nigeria Football Supporters Club were already outside the Stade de l'amite three hours to kick-off, singing and dancing.

But during the game, two sets of Nigeria Football Supporters Club could be seen in the stands showing support to the home-based Eagles.

This surely raised eye brows because one would have expected the supporters club to be together and operating as one.

This could have affected the players who would be wondering what was going on especially when they went to applaud the supporters before the start of the match.

MASSIVE HOME SUPPORT

If there was one thing that the Squirrels never lacked against the home-based Eagles, it was massive support from their home fans.

Despite the stadium not being filled to capacity, the home fans made their presence felt by cheering every move made by their team.

Even when the home-based Eagles were having the upper hand, that did not stop the fans from supporting their team which eventually yielded the desired result.

It is now up to the Kano fans to replicate what the Squirrels enjoyed from their home fans.

VERY GOOD ACCOMMODATION

If there is one area which the home-based Eagles cannot complain about, it was the fact that they were lodged in one of the best hotels in Cotonou, the Royal Hotel.

Located in the heart of Cotonou, the Royal Hotel has an indoor pool and a 24-hour health club. Free buffet breakfast is provided, as well as free WiFi in public areas, free self parking, and a free airport shuttle. Additionally, a bar/lounge, a poolside bar, and three coffee shops/cafés are at the four-star hotel.

It is common knowledge that most home teams in Africa hardly provide a conducive environment for their visitors all in a bid to gain a psychological advantage.

But in this case, the Eagles never experienced anything of that sort and cannot use poor lodging that as an excuse for the loss.

UNINTERRUPTED TRAINING SESSIONS, NO HOSTILITY

Aside from getting the best of accommodation, the home-based Eagles had smooth and uninterrupted training sessions.

The team had their first training session on Friday few hours after arriving in Benin and had their final session on Saturday.

While the sessions were going on, there was no case of disturbance from the home fans who were present to catch a glimpse of the Nigerian stars.

Rohr impressed by CHAN Eagles Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, ‘Muazzam’, considers them for World Cup qualifiers

By admin -
August 15, 2017

Despite the wobble by the CHAN Eagles in Benin at the weekend, SCORENigeria has specially gathered that Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has been impressed by several of the home-based national team stars led by Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Alhassan Ibrahim ‘Muazzam’.

Kano Pillars midfielder Rabiu Ali and goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye have also caught the eye of the Franco-German coach and they all stand a chance of making the squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.

A top Eagles official informed SCORENigeria that MFM FC midfielder Ifeanyi Ifeanyi is now favourite to be called up by Rohr.

“When he was in Kano for the training camp he liked Ifeanyi Ifeanyi. He said he is not only intelligent, but also tactically disciplined,” the official revealed.

“He already knows ‘Muazzam’ from the Super Eagles training camp in France and the boy enhanced his ratings when he came on in Benin and did well with half an hour to play.”

Both Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and ‘Muazzam’ were in the Flying Eagles Class of 2015 and now feature for Akwa United in the NPFL.

Rabiu Ali, who is nicknamed ‘Pele’ by Pillars fans, and Dele Ajiboye have also interested the Eagles coach.

“Ajiboye has been awesome in the league for leaders Plateau United and with the goalkeepers overseas not exactly pulling their weight at their clubs, he could be considered for the Cameroon games,” the official further told SCORENigeria.

The fact is U-17 boys hardly graduate to U20. U13 to U17 -- great.

Nigeria is still jinxed at the U20 level. I think realistically we have done excellently at the U17 level in 2013 and 2015 considering that those were the youngest side we ever fielded.

Modified.
The problem is we don't know why we still chase foreign based players today. Where are Nigeria's best doctors, Engineers etc. The fact is MOST are abroad. By technocracy we are not talking about your book knowledge but your applied knowledge -- an elite of technical experts. Same applies to Football and so many other spheres of Nigerian life. Which is why if we keep having bad leadership it's going to affect many things that we do. I posted a graph yesterday of our population increase compared to other African countries, and nobody commented. If Nigeria's population is about 70% of the entire Africa and our growth rate is also alarming, that means we should dominate almost everything in Africa. In fact we should dominate football in Africa especially, because we have always put all our focus on football. But that's far from the case.

It's unfortunate. The problem is when people think our problems demands an an easy fix -- graduating U13 boys all the way to U20. We always want short cut solutions. It doesn't happen like that in reality. Short cut solutions only bring short-term success.

Until our league and in fact the structure of our football development from Primary school level to University level is improved greatly, we won't be able to churn out stars in a regular basis. This is what separates us from the like of Germany. These countries don't put too much effort in winning under aged tournaments like we do.

Inzaghi and Costa fight for their teams even when things are bad. You see the fire they bring to their teams, you see them dominate CBs, set up team mates, win aerial duels,battle/dominate when they go toe to toe with opposition players and keep the opposing goalkeepers busy. Can you point out a game Costa had about 12 touches last season?

After the Leicester City game, you came online to scream how you were robbed a penalty and bragged about Kelechi having a good game, obviously you wanted so badly to justify how the Pep drills are working wonders.

You speak like a man who have wagered his life savings on Kelechi winning the balon d'Or.

Exclusive : Lille Outcast Enyeama Will Return To Super Eagles – Rohr Reveals
August 15, 201708

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria ‎Gernot Rohr has sensationally confirmed the return of former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama to the team as soon as he regains full fitness.

Rohr confirmed he has a near perfect relationship with the goalkeeper who is currently not in the good books of new coach of French Ligue 1 side Lille Marcelo Bielsa, who axed him from the first team.

The Franco-German coach of the Super Eagles in an exclusive chat with Owngoalnigeria.com revealed, once Enyeama returns to full fitness and also sort out the issues of finding a new club, he is confident he will return to the team.

“The true position is that I have a good relationship with Enyeama and he has a problem with the Federation (NFF) before I came on board as coach, and when I called him and he said there’s a problem with the Federation, I cannot come at the moment” Rohr told Owngoalnigeria.com

“I tried to call him again and now I call him again,‎ he asked to take some leave for his injury. I think the situation is a little bit different, some players who don’t want to play for their national team can change their mind.

“But unfortunately the injury of Vincent means he cannot come for this game against Cameroon, not only that he also has to find another club because his club bought two other goalkeepers.

“So he cannot play at the moment at his club, he must be fit first and also find another club then hopefully he will be motivated to come back to the national team”, Rohr said.

August 15, 201704

Sadiq Umar has completed his loan move from fellow Italian Serie A side Roma to Torino after passing a routine medical, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The 20 year old had his medical in Turin one hour ago, and Torino will confirmed his capture any moment from now on a deal which gives them the option to buy him for €6m.

However Roma inserted a buy back clause in his loan deal, which gives them the option to re-sign him for €8m if Torino decide to make his loan deal permanent after his initial loan at the club.

Already the lanky forward who finished as top scorer for Nigeria at the last Olympic games in Rio has selected a shirt number, settling for his beloved shirt number 19, which was last worn by Manuel De Luca.
