As great as Aghahowa was in SE colours, Iheanacho has equalled his goal scoring record with the national team.
I might be wrong but sometimes I feel we overate this past SE players.
With all the so called exploits in the 1900s, what did they really achieve?

Aghahowa didn't play for long. Moreover, he scored important goals for us.

Julius Aghahowa was active for the Super Eagles between 2000-2007 (7yrs)
Iheanacho made his debut 2015 till date.. (8yrs)
Shouldn't be a surprise they are returned similar goals.

I don't think he lasted for that long, he was not at 2004 and 2006 AFCON

Bro have been watching SE since 94 and in all that time I've seen our team concede many goals but walahi I couldn't believe my eyes when Tunisia scored Maduka. As in I rubbed my eyes whether I was dreaming because it was so surreal.

That's not the worst he has even conceded.

I can give him a little pass for that goal. Other goalkeepers could possibly fumble that too.

Maduka has conceded more ridiculous goals.

Yeah, just confirmed. But, I don't think that he was used. Martins was our top 9 between 2004 and 2006

Lol. Again you misremember. Aghahowa started our first game of that tournament vs Ghana alongside the Weapon of Mass Destruction, Martins. He played at that tournament.

Ivory coast is a really good team! Dem wan kill Morrocco today. How that match ended 1-1 was a miracle. It should have easily been 6 nil to the Ivorians that's even me being lenient. Lol! Like I keep saying the Morrocans are overrated. They are only good at counter attacking unfortunately most African top teams won't leave their defence as opened as the Europeans at the World Cup!

Men morocco dont really do well in the afcon. They have reached rhe semi finals a few times (5 times or so).
They struggle against top african teams.
Our afco record is clearly better.
I will not be surprised if they don't win this one.
As for us our problem is BAD COACHING BAD COACHING BAD COACHING.
God give our coaches wisdom. I dont rate this oeseiro at all

True, but even we have not been great in recent times either..
Remember we're just coming from the doldrums of Rohr's depressing football coupled with JP needing time to find his feet and get the team executing his ideas
Some other teams were growing while we were going backwards with Rohr and JP initially

So in that sense, Mozambique would be a good test for us

I am convinced we are almost ready for the AFCON
And I think any team that underrates us will pay for that
Whichever way, its somewhat an insult to be honest. You not doing well doesn't mean teams that are way below are better.

And I think the result is also a wake up call as it really exposed the pretenders in the team.

It gave a clearer picture of players JP must flush out before the AFCOn

A few months ago this was the experimental squad I proposed to execute the dead rubber game against Sao Tome.

GK - Victor Sochima (Rivers utd) / Amas Obasogie (Bendel insurance); one half each

RB - Festy Ebosele (Udinese)
CB - Jordan Torunarigha (KAA Gent)
CB - Caleb Okoli (Atalanta)
LB - Bruno Onyeamechi (Boavista)

CM - Daniel Daga - (Dakkada FC) Yusuf Alhassan (Royal Antwerp); one half each
CM - Tochukwu Nnadi (Botev Plovdiv)
CAM - Devine Nwachukwu (Bendel Insurance)
DM - Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge)

ST - Gift Orban (KAA Gent)
ST - Victor Boniface (Union St. Gilloise)

The idea behind this was to assess most of these guys and if they 'pass' deepen our pool of semi-tested options particularly in midfield and in goal.

Also to encourage the younger ones that did well in the U-20 WC and showing them a route to the senior team does exist.

Today the younger guys are probably getting disillusioned.

We don't have a single reliable goalkeeper.

Midfield options are extremely limited and alternatives are untested.

We continue to have an unbalanced team heavyweight in attack, paper thin in the middle of the park and in a state of emergency at the back.......AFCON is 3 months away.

This is the reality.

* I am aware we have lost Festy Ebosele to Ireland and Caleb Okoli is yet to commit to Nigeria. There are also concerns regarding Gift Orban and Togo now pursuing his allegiance.

If Nacho and Boniface will start alongside Iwobi, then Iwobi won't play 10. There would be no #10. Rather we would have advanced 8s. Iwobi will play deeper.

Think 3-4-2-1 formation. No wingers. The 2-1 is Boniface-Iheanacho playing in the half spaces close to Osimhen. The 4 is Ndidi-Iwobi flanked by the wingbacks of Osayi and Bruno. The back 3 will be Omeruo/Awaziem, Ajayi and Bassey.

That is one formation where they can all fit into.

Another I have been pondering is one with a 3 man midfield. A 4-3-1-2. The 1 is the man in the hole behind two strikers who can also work the channels. And that 1 must also be able to penetrate centrally with his BTL runs to finish or create dangerous angled chances Foe the 2 CFs.

But in a 433, it won't work unless the corresponding Fullback on the right takes up both offensive and defensive roles with the RCB & DM covering for the RFB's overlaps. Iheanacho shouldn't operate as a wide RW but as an 8 from the RHS.

I don't like this 442 especially because Peseiro doesn't know how to set it up to look like a 4-2-2-2. Our wingers should have one of them as an advanced 8 to support Iwobi's creative role.

Great insight, with the perfect personnel. With this, our middle will be so packed and difficult to penetrate. Leaving us with more dominance in the middle.

And I feel the 3.4.2.1 is the best setup.

Sir,I don’t believe in old player would struggled in today’s football.Every player has their time and that time was modern.

We went to 2013 Afcon with average players and home based Sunday Mba did justice to Nigeria midfield.Did you know that Ogenyi Onazi was not even regular in group stage.

We just need bus conductor like Mikel in our team,Mikel gave liberty to Mba to operate further and we all saw the results against Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.

That "bus conductor" is hard to find these days...reason Nwakali's name keeps popping up.

I'm looking at Akinsanmiro as the heir to Mikel in the long-run. In the mean time, the coach has to improvise.

Are you forgetting Enyeama blunders at the world cup.
The videos are there on YouTube if u were too young to watch those matches..
He literally guarded the ball to Pogba's head for an open goal.
Just like Uzoho yesterday Enyeama was never good at setpieces
In other words, No difference between Enyeama and Uzoho.

Uzoho has had good games for us too, for exa.ple he had an almost faultless WC and he was excellent in the friendly against Brazil before he got injured. Major thing is he needs to find a new club where he will playing and not be on the bench. Staying in Cyprus ad #2 doesn't speak well for him. E beta make he find any club that would of course feed him and at least give him the chance to play week in week out.

I really miss Carl Ikeme. Go and watch our first 2018 WCQ qualifying match against Zambia and see the saves he made that day.

Our U17 who couldn't qualify for the world cup still saddens me. A lot of talents in that team especially in Midfield. Udoh and one or two defenders are not also doing bad. If not for the stubborn coach eh...kinda painful

If we had converted our numerous chances perhaps the results would have been different. I think the bashing of Uzoho should be toned down. He is not at his best and we all know we have a goalkeeper crisis. I wonder who is in charge of scouting goalkeepers honestly. That is the person I would focus on. Let's imagine that we had an off day. It can only get better. For those dragging JP. Remember that the common denominator in all these discussion are our players. Maybe they are not as good as we are all hyping. Let's see what tomorrow would bring.
