EXCLUSIVE: Rohr pushes out coach Imama

Coach Rohr with Iheanacho in Uyo on Tuesday

by Samm Audu

New Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has made his first major change in the team – he has asked that he would not need assistant coach Imama Amakapabo.

Franco-German Rohr jetted into the country this week with an adviser, a fitness trainer as well as a video specialist.

Amakapabo has proved to be one of the country’s brightest young coaches as he leads Enugu Rangers to a first league championship after 32 long years.

However, Rohr is not impressed and has asked that the assistant coach be dropped.

“Yes, it’s true that the new coach (Rohr) has decided he does not need Imama,” a team official informed.

“That decision came to us as a big shock especially knowing that it was the technical committee who appointed him.”

Former Nigeria U17 goalkeeper Imama first worked as part of the Eagles backroom staff in the May friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg as an assistant to Salisu Yusuf.

He will also assist Yusuf with the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) All-Stars playing tour of Spain recently.

Earlier Tuesday, Imama disclosed he will rejoin his club Rangers for a rescheduled home game against MFM FC on Wednesday, saying he does not wish to take any chances as Rangers stay among the prominent league title chasers.

Nigeria international Kingsley Madu has signed a three-year contract with Belgian club Zulte-Waregem from Slovak champions AS Trencin.

The 20-year-old leftback completed his transfer Tuesday.
The former El Kanemi Warriors star featured at the recent Rio Olympics, where Nigeria won a bronze medal.

He has been capped at U20, Olympics and full international levels.

He has delayed his joining the Eagles training camp in Uyo till Wednesday on account of his transfer.

Trencin have proved to be a good conveyor belt for young top-class talent to Belgium as they have brought through Moses Simon (Gent), Wesley Moraes (Club Brugge) and Leon Bailey (KRC Genk) most recently.

Amen cheesy
You can imagine a 19 yr old boy earning over N140 million per month. This world is not fair sha. His babe in Naija will be receiving like N400k every month as pocket money.
Ighalo sef will be jealous cos he is "only" making £25k/week.

I think Ighalo rejected over £200,000 a week deal in China. Even his coach then, Sanches Flores became scared of Ighalo rejecting such money.

I doubt Ighalo is jealous because he can make that kind of money.

Official: Rohr order on Imama not formal

A top NFF official has confirmed Gernot Rohr has said he does not wish to work with assistant coach Imama Amapakabo, but they are yet to receive a formal letter to that effect.

“Yes, Rohr has said he does not wish to work with Imama. But we have not received an official communication in this respect and so cannot react to this decision until we have,” said the top official.

“The executive committee appointed Imama just as they hired Rohr and so the matter must be brought before them for the next line of action.

“Imama was not picked on the streets and so due process must be followed if he now has to be disengaged.”

Franco-German coach Rohr has arrived the country and hit the ground running accompanied by three assistants he handpicked.

In the meantime, Imama has quit the Eagles training camp in Uyo this morning so as to be on bench of title-chasing Enugu Rangers in a rescheduled league match in Enugu against MFM FC in the evening.

Wish Imama the best. He should continue developing his knowledge in the game.

I think Coach Rohr already has someone to handle the role Imama was to play in the team.

Props also to the NFF Technical Committee. They are working hard to get it right this time.

When will they stop loaning this guy out?

I expected Omeruo to stay at Middlesbrough after his loan there but it seems the coaches in Chelsea feel he will turn out a fine defender in future.

Wish him the best.

Omeruo says NO to half pay on loan to Real Betis

by Samm Audu

Nigeria star Kenneth Omeruo has turned down a loan deal to Spanish La Liga club Real Betis because he will lose as much as half of his Chelsea salary of 15,000 pounds-a-week.

“Betis were ready to take Kenneth on loan but it would mean that he will take a huge pay cut, something like half of the salary he is on at Chelsea,” a source informed.

“That was why it was not an attractive option and it was immediately turned down.”

Other Spanish clubs like Celta Vigo and Espanyol are also interested in the Nigeria defender, but again the player’s salary has been the stumbling block.

Last season, Turkish Super Lig club Kasimpasa matched the player’s Chelsea’s salary, but in the end they could not come up with five million Euros asking price for sign him on a permanent basis.

A proposed move to Turkish champions Besiktas appears to have finally gone dead with a day left to the transfer window deadline.

Just Negodu this boy.

He rejected a chance to work with a few former great player. Gus Poyet is the coach of Betis. Omeruo would have gained from the experience. Sometimes, it is not about money but development.

Look at Nolito who was at Celta Vigo. The exposure led him to the Spanish team and now he is earning big at City.

I guess the tip was from Finidi George but Omo Naija is about the money first. I feel Omeruo missed a big opportunity there.

A good performance at Betis will land him a good contract. He would have one year remaining which will make signing him easily.

Instead he will play at Turkey. Wish him the best.

Can not believe this guy turned down Poyet.

Newly appointed Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr had his first training session with the Nigeria senior national team yesterday evening, without the England based duo of John Obi Mikel and Kelechi Iheanacho.

The duo were talked to separately by the German trainer before the start of training, and they were both left out as they had individual sessions with the team masseur and physiotherapist.

No reason was given for their exemption but Owngoalnigeria.com gathered, Rohr possibly exempted Iheanacho from his first session to allow him time with the masseur due to the muscle injury he recently recovered from.

Meanwhile, Mikel who started jogging with the team before a chatwoth the coach saw him leave the training for a session with the Physioterapist could be nursing a slight knock picked up at the Olympics.

The duo are as good as been ruled out of today’s friendly game against Akwa United which will take place by 5pm at the nest of champions in Uyo, venue of the dead rubber AFCON 2017 qualifiers game against Tanzania.

Coach of Enugu Rangers Imama Amapakabo has reacted angrily to stories making the rounds, that he has been sacked by newly appointed Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.

Reports broke out last night, that the Franco German has ordered the former Nigeria U17 goalkepper to stay away from the team, as he is comfortable with the three assistants he brought in.

Imama and Salisu Yusuf were appointed as assistant coaches to the German by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), but the German flew into Nigeria with three of his own assistants in Jean- Luc Royer, Nabil Trabelsi and Everton Ferreira.

Aside from goalkepper trainer Alloy Agu, Rohr picked Yusuf as the only Nigerian trainer he wants in his coaching crew according to various reports, but Imama says he left the camp out of his own volition, not because he was asked to leave by the German.

”I left to prepare my team for today’s game against MFM FC, we are in a title race, we need all points we can gather, am shocked to hear stories that Rohr has sacked me, even the NFF are not aware” Imama said to our correspondent on phone.

”Hopefully I will return to the team after our game, maybe that will give people a better picture of what am saying”.

Lots of interesting moves in the transfer window for Nigerian players.

Rabiu Ibrahim to Gent (Belgium)
Anderson Esiti to Gent (Belgium )
Sadiq Umar to Bologna (Italy)
Elderson to standard Liege (Belgium )
Kingsley Madu to Zulte Waregem (Belgium )
Amuzie to Sampdoria ((Italy)

Not forgetting Musa and Isaac Success.

Apart from echiejiele, the rest are upward moves. Sadiq Umar will get more opportunities in Bologna.

Esiti has been outstanding in Portugal but has not been given the platform to be invited to the national team. Gent is a better team for him.

Amuzie was supposed to sign for Sampdoria before his career threatening injury. Good to see him back.

Belgium is a better place for Madu to stake a claim that he deserves to play in the top leagues.

Rabiu Ibrahim, unlike most of his set is still playing well.

Are the good times of Nigerian football back??

And that means we need a solid consistent pattern with pattern B and C in case of emergency.

We need a pattern that would give Nigerians hope when our senior team is 2-0 down and we pull and Istanbul comeback.

that's what we need. it's been a while since Eagles got hope when we are 1-0 down or so. But several teams have pulled an Istanbul on us..
