I have never said brand new tyres aint cool, they are coll but the fact is that we do not produce tyres and buying a new tyre might be a wrong investment depending on factors. We buy imported tyres and we might end up buying winter tyres that is brand new and we use it in a tropical environment like Nigeria. Secondly, tyres are produced with terrain condition in mind. This is called specification and in cars there is what is called tropicalization. The type of tyre that is used in Ontario might not be Suitable in Warri considering the difference in terrain. Yet they are NEW TYRES. Now this is my position. If you buy used tyre, try and know the country and region of manufacture and the last time I checked we import mostly from china. We drive Chinese tyres and my basic Geography tells me that china isn’t a tropical country so are their tyres Suitable for a tropical terrain like ours? You can answer it yourself. Used tyres come in various forms People who use winter tires, then sell car with only winter on them.. Or car is destroyed. Then don't need the other set. Car accidents and wrecker yards. Where tires are nearly new and replaced but the body damage or other maintenance is write off People who return tires within 30 days for whatever reason...People who buy used cars and want to change to different rims... I've bought used tyres before that still had nobbies on them. The guy at the shop said they were sometimes from people who bought new cars and didn't like the brand or style of tyres they came with, so they pulled them off and replaced them. Immediately. Like on the way home from the car yard. A word of advice for the kiddies or first time car owners: This is an area where proper vehicle selection can make a huge difference. The consequences of a tire failure on a small car are minimal. Big tippy SUVs can be catastrophic. Select small non-tippy vehicles. |

When people who buy "used items" want to argue...their argument is always the same regardless of the product they are defending. YOu'll often hear them say; Its better to buy a 1st-grade toks than a China New product . The koko be say; who is saying you should get a china new tyre? What stops you from getting a new tyre from a reputable company(pirelli,dunlop,firestone,etc)? The answer is Finance! Simple and short!! Moreover, I have seen families drive with new china tyres from lagos-onitsha and back and the tyre hasn't gone burst. Comparing a used item to a new item is crazy....This is why Nigeria is often referred to as a dumping ground for westerners.. |
