academic qualification or not. the stark truth remains that without
development, there can never be peace in the niger delta.

The truth  of the matter is that economic development in the Niger Delta would only come when and until all the militants lay down their arms. The wise ones are doing so presently.

The rest should brace themselves for another military onslaught in the coming dry season as a result of which they would be forced to lay down their arms.
It is actually that simple.

Fail!
JTF eyes saw something in those oily creeks that made govt do an about turn to offer bribery by "amnesty". Power pass power.

The army is currently retiring 1000 officers; these guys are currently throwing parties, knowing they never have to visit the "hell" creeks.

This amnesty thing sef, in my opinion they should try taking care of the cause of everything and not the results. I am really tired of all the violence going on,

And one question, after collecting millions of dollars as ransom, how much has been used in developing communities?? That is one thing we should ask ourselves too,,

This amnesty thing after the bombing of Gbaramatu which saw the terrorist poetically appealing to their "brothers" in the Nigerian Army, is simply know as CARROT AND ROD POLITICS. Similar to 'good cop, bad cop' negotiation tactics, the carrot is first offered as an incentive for obedience. When it is rejected, the rod is then applied. Having demonstrated the negative effects of the rod, the carrot is then offered again with some extra incentive. If rejected for the second time, a rod raised to the power of 10 can then be used, after which the raw carrot will be begged for by the defaulting party.

So any terrorist that refuses to accept the carrot this time around, Boko Haram shall be their portion.

MEND themselves know what they saw at Gbaramatu. I was in the heart of the Delta from yesterday morning to this afternoon. They like enjoyment, they don't want to die, they don't like to cry. They better "amnest" now before the thing over dem.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has been approached by the Nigerian government to own up to thousands of weapons belonging to the Nigerian Army which would be delivered secretly at night to an arms collection centre if we agree to the plan. This desperate measure which aims to give the amnesty program some semblance of progress has the input and connivance of the Amnesty Commitee, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Ministry of Defense as well as the Joint Task Force.

We know that some unscrupulous individuals will participate in this scam because of the money involved and as such we are using this opportunity to raise the alarm before Nigerians and the international community are hoodwinked.

For a government that has perfected the art of rigging elections, this latest fraudulent attempt does not come to us as a surprise.

MEND believes in a holistic process where the root issues that prompted the unrest are addressed and weapons are freely given up in exchange for justice.

We are happy to note that the military has vacated the Gbaramatu communities to allow the displaced people return home and hope that the government will go a step further by rebuilding the damaged homes or compensating those whose property were wantonly destroyed.
