Some times its not all about the money. I suggest you stay with your current employer and grow with him. With that being said your current employer will value you more... |

If all you said is true, then you have no business been a employee all you have be is a consultant and work for as many people as you can. Use your talent and set up a consultant firm, I bet more will come for your services. I see no reason why you help a firm to cut cost to the turn of $68,000 and that same firm can't offer you up to 5,000 dollars per annum. In summary, you are been used by your present employer and the firm that offered you 350k still want use you. 3 Likes |

I can't come out straight to give you a direct advise since I do not have information into some factors. The truth is that if your boss can put all his contract offer into writing it would be worth considering if these conditions are satisfied: you have a conducive working environment where you are been dignified and giving your utmost respect and regard (most private companies treat their workers like poo) You see yourself growing career wise, also them allowing you to attend conference and workshops in your field( because trust me that's what you need). The loyalty of your boss could be another factor, there are bosses that want the best for their staff, they can't go to any length to make you happy. If you have a boss that is not just a boss but a friend then bros reconsider what extra bucks in another company is planning on taking away from you. After considering this factors and you still consider is time for a career change, that is still wonderful. you don't owe any organization any loyalty and what matters most is your self development. Wish you all the best but also put in mind the saying that the devil you know is better than the angel you don't know make you no do mistakes that Nigerians did by voting out a "clueless govt" and changing it with something worse. |

AntiWailer: Read the bolded multiple times. If takes an experienced programmer to advise you on this not a doctor or an accountant. If you are as good as you claim , your Abuja boss will give u freelance job and u will make more money than u can ever think . Lagos is good for you as a software developer. Abuja has seasons. It might go dry soon. Don't play with your academics else you will continue to be a slave to the main guys who will use and dump u. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

No doubt your present boss needs ur service,it is an opportunity fo to Atleast step up ur charge.i think you can still bargain for more than the 50k increament. Au contraire,u can consider working on contract for both companies then u have chances of enlarging ur coast.lets say if both companies pay 100k monthly and u ar able market ur services some more companies, you are likely to earn more than the sum of both company's package. I no knw if I talk small sense tho, afterall I don't knw too much about ur field but I'm quite certain that employers will only offer u according to their capacity and not your actual worth. |

Hello germyu, Your loyalty in a corporate environment should be to yourself and your advancement. Research the new company and if worth it, move on! On a side note, your present company might not think twice to dump you if it necessitates that, companies are only loyal to their bottom-line and NEVER to their employees.. Be wise and be guided accordingly... 3 Likes |

Bro. I think deep down, you know what you should do. I am a firm believer in building a track record/reputation and the leveraging on that. It is not always about money. You are already a star at your current place of employment which is why the competition came calling. I would say, become a megastar before the next jump - enjoy the fruit of your achievement (the Web portal); see it grow and think of what else you can do to build your reputation. The big jobs and money will come afterwards. Besides, the difference between the 2 jobs is about 60k if you factor in the 500k housing allowance on a monthly basis. I am also assuming the Dubai trip is a one time thing and the new offer is a consolidated package with no separate housing allowance. All the best. |

ALVA001: 1. Try and grasp the concept of object oriented programming OOP. It helps to demystify the project into workable units. 2. Have a project in mind. This would help streamline what you need to know because programming is an entire world of its own. No need learning what you dont need. 3. Determine to succeed, because you will CERTAINLY hit lots of road blocks (garbage in garbage out). 4. Make google your best friend. There are loads of step by step tutorials out there. My 2 cents 1 Like |

My friend, taking a decision in a situation like this take extra grace of God. I will advise you to seek the face of God. I was once in your shoe before and I must tell you, it is not all that is glitter is gold. There is a way that seems right but the end of it is destruction. Some of the companies we have in the country today entice one with good salary package, they will pay for 6months after that they start with salary delay, salary reduction, your pension deduction will not be remitted. Look at your present employment prospects, what is the career growth of the company, do they struggle to pay your salary? do they remit your pension deductions? Do they have good retirement plans? Pls consider all this before you take your final decision. Good luck bro 1 Like |

First, am an undergraduate and 24years of age. Well, I expect to have so level of academic qualification to get there. However, I have a huge chance of working with a Netherland based company; still on the interview process. I have just 3years of professional experience. The company is more stable than my current employer. Fact is my current employer sacks people like a bar waiter. Infact, am over impressed with the structures; cos I was in lagos to have a meeting with them; the company Look organised. Upon which I proposed consultancy but they opposed and they insisted on employment, and I said if am coming as an employee, you'll have to purchase the code I have spent time writing cos I won't just come and expect me to change the code for you. But all effort to make that works proves abortive. What should I do next? AntiWailer: |
