Global rom is the variant with hardware built for the Chinese market but flashed with global rom/software. It works perfectly here but only lacks LTE band 20 (which is not needed in China). This band is used only by Smile & partly by MTN. Note MTN use band 3 too so you'll still have MTN LTE signal.

Global version is the variant with hardware built for the international market. It already has the global rom/firmware factory installed.

Least I forget the global version is slightly more expensive due to the extra band but we that don't send we rock the global rom variant, no time
