What more does a man have than to work hard daily for his survival? To work hard and receive no portion of the fruits of labour is a lost cause for the case of human rights.
Its an actual violation of human rights to work a person and not pay them enough to survive.
Its a lost cause for the country when people are treated like slaves sent to work with no payment to be recieved. Slavery is a humn rights violation and Nigeria does not rank well with human rights ratings.
His employers will have to carry his unpaid wages to him in the afterlife and they may even be told to carry the money go as it is not valued there.

If he had a wife and 1 child (according to his earning power) he may still be alive probably.
Primitive Nigerians have a salary (or no salary at all) for family of 3 but they create a family of 5 to a dozen instead.

Even though the man shouldn't have done what he has done, but let's face the cause(s).

To me the causes of the man's death are:

1) Our wicked, foolish and selfish politicians - using workers' salaries to better themselves and their families.
2) The church - added to the man's burden

Where in the Bible captures mothers' day, fathers' day, women's week, men's week, youth week and all other
nonsense celebrations that go on in the churches these days.

Did Christ command anybody to celebrate anything apart from his death?

sir you argument do not just match. All this celebration were not condemed in the bible as far as it is done on decency. Why blame the church cloth it was never written in the note. Now if you don't have, there is no church were you will be driven out if you don't have the uniform. So get your facts straight.Thanks.

And yet d wife knew d situation n made it worse by demanding for d uniform. Only God knows hw dat part of d conversation went. Am sure if she ll nt be thinking of d uniform now
greatgod2012:
If you people actually read the story, the man didn't commit suicide because of his inability to buy his wife church uniform, but because he couldn't meet his obligations as the head of the house. He's depressed, ashamed and felt useless due to his unpaid salary. The hardship together with the shame was too big for him to bear, hence, the unspeakable thing he did.

But he shouldn't have done that, to every problem, there's surely an expiry date......he should have held on......hoping and praying....... things will get better. But this one he has done now, he has put his wife and children in shame and restlessness. Everyone will be thinking the woman put too much pressure on him. In fact, its terrible.

But truth be told, the hardship in this country presently is grade one raised to power five, it's only the very strong that can cope successfully.

Can you ever spend enough time investing on your future? At what point should you be able to beat your chest and say I have invested enough in my future so I am ready for marriage? Is there any guaranty that there will not arise problems in your marriage after you thought you have guided agaisnt all the problems that may arise?

Godging from the story, the man is simply a coward and have not even seen much thouph time in life. If he were to be alive now he shoul av come outside the society and compare his condition with that of many people then he will know why he should not die.

Some women's reasoning baffles the he'll out of me. Your husband does not have a source of income at the moment and you're still demanding money to buy some church uniform. She dare not say that she didn't notice that her husband has been down and depressed for some time now. All she cared about was how her demands will be met. RIP to the deceased, May God console and provide those that he left behind.

GloriaNinja:
Committing suicide is a stupid and cowardly act

On the contrary, it is arguably an act of courage to defeat one's innate human instinct of survival and inflict fatal harm upon oneself. In other words, the courage to commit suicide is stronger than the courage to stay alive, regardless of one's travails.

The allure of life is often too sweet and people are often too scared of any kind of pain. Both of these considerations explain why more than half of the world's population have not committed suicide, even though they have secretly contemplated it at one point or the other. If committing suicide was as easy as simply pressing a button and 'deactivating' oneself like a Nairaland account, millions of people would commit suicide on a daily basis.

But beyond that, you shouldn't be so judgmental. You don't know anything about another human being until you walk in his or her own shoes and experience the world through his or her own soul.

Everything about social reality is subjective.
