Satan or the Devil is a myth. We are each responsible for anything bad we do, unless there are circumstances beyond our control such as mental illness.

Satan was originally portrayed as under the orders of God, and testing mankind under God's direction (Book of Job). And this seems to have been his function when he tempted Jesus in the desert, but perhaps starting to be presented as an enemy. The figure became demonised by early Christians in the latter part of the first century.

Christians have for some reason identified Lucifer (Latin: Light Bearer) with Satan. Lucifer was applied to Venus as it appeared as the Morning Star. But Christians seem to see the fall of Satan in Isaiah 14:12, "How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star (Lucifer), son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low!" But if you read Isaiah 14:3 onwards, you'll see that the passage is a taunt against the King of Babylon.

And Ezekiel 28 is about the Prince of Tyre, not the devil or any other angel or demon.

The writer of Revelation’s identification of the Dragon with Satan and the Serpent from Eden seems contrived. The word Devil comes from Greek Diabolos and means Accuser/Advocate, as does Satan; so it's probably just a translation of Satan into Greek. They were originally different myths:

Genesis 3:1: "Now the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made."

Job 1:6: "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them."

The myth of the adversary/accuser probably became fearful over time; only Christians believe in a Devil, and even then only since the end of the Dark Ages.

Man walk alone with your confusion, I think you should create another thread for your opinions/beliefs, coz in this thread, 'the devil exists' and the question is how powerful he is,

for me man has been the greatest devil i have ever encountered in this life.

try getting close to a man who does not have love in his heart and you will know what devil or evil is all about.

the devil is a metaphorical expression of human wickedness, the effect of evil is as terrifying as a distorted beast. @skydancer, since you believe in the devil, have you evidence for it?

I just don't understand this satan/devil myth any more? It used to make sense to me when I was in the bubble of delusion though . . . . . How many satans are there? Is it the same satan in Nigeria that is functioning in China or Mongolia? Can this mythical satan be every where?. . . .What evidence is there to show for this mythical construct?. . . . Human's will NEVER want to accept their responsibilities, people will prefer to blame their inadequacies on anything, even imaginary and mythical constructs. . . Satan my assssssssssssssssss. . . . .

How can you have evidence of how your mind constructs matter?
How can you have evidence of how your mind creates gods?
The only evidence is the truth inside you.
Look inside yourself and you will find the truth
For the evidence does not lie on this realm
And those who find it in this realm know it.
And they will tell you
But you cannot believe
because you do not want to accept the truth
The devil exists and you cannot stop him from existing
You are so minute and small in his site
And if God gave him reign, you will experience what his powers is like
But for now, you wallow in your ignorance,
convinced that you are right
Yes you are right
because the person who looks from a blue spectacle sees a blue world
Only when you drop your spectacle, then you can see
Good Luck!

1) He is not Omnipresent - that means he's cannot be everywhere at the same time, he can only be in a particular place, that keeps him very limited
2) He is not Omnipotent - that means he cannot do whatever he wants to do, he is also under authority and must subject himself to the laws of God like all other spirits
3) He is not Omniscient - that means he doesn't know everything, he cannot read your mind and must rely on information gathered by his agents to make decisions.

That make Satan or the Devil as he is popularly called very limited in other words powerless!

He may not be all that, but he is sure the most resourceful, even God admits that very few will make it to heaven. at least less than 20% of the entire world. SATAN is quite the enterprising lad, he is grin

Sure, God says that many will fail to make "heaven" or the kingdom of God as it should be rightly called but it wont be because of the workings of the devil, it will be because they refuse the sacrifice of God through His son Jesus christ and because they fail to live after the dictates of the Spirit of God present in this world to guide us in Obedience.
Many will fall off, because they simply desire to live for themselves rather than live for God, not because the Devil does any smart or ingenious thing. He (the devil) is happy about it anyways!!!
