Did he resign by himself or was he replaced by OBJ? I heard then that OBJ replaced him because he felt that he was too dignified and 'gentle', and wanted a more combative and attack-minded individual - a role that Nweke Junior managed to play very well.

It is quite hard to defend the govt in this trying time of the economy.

Hard times or underperforming governments bring out the 'shine' in a competent minister of information. In such trying situations, the minister's endearing manner of communicating with the public in a charismatic, likeable, persuasive manner (even if slightly dishonest) would somehow improve the public's perception of the government. All of this is where Lai has failed woefully. He has not been able to make the transition from an opposition party attack dog to a government minister of information whose party is in power. There are massive differences in job description, stylistic requirements, and general approach between these two starkly different roles.

His repugnant face alone is a turn off as it rankles beyond what I can describe in words. When he opens his mouth he fouls up the entire atmosphere and inspires nothing but disgust and contempt. Absolutely nothing likeable or believable about the man.

A more charismatic and competent minister would have made a LOT of difference.

I understand your plight, Once you are putting on a lens of hatred to view someone, whatever (s)he says is putrid.

At the ministerial screening, he simply took a bow for a reason. He is good at what he does.Although the minority leader was quick to label him a propagandist. Transitioning from a party's publicity secretary to his current position meant he has earned a large pool of enemies from the other divide at his former role. Many have even maligned him for saying the Govt has technically defeated the BH, but if any sensible reasons what technical defeat is, he was not out of line.

There was a reason the widely admired Dora Akunyili lost a chunk of respect during the trying times of Yaradua's sickness, although she tried to redeem her image at the tail end of the Yaradua debacle. Hard times do not bring out the shine in a minister of information. NEVER. It sinks them if they are not competent.

As for Lai Mohammed,I can only explain him thus: I was watching channels yestreday and they announced that in a few minutes time,they'll be having Lai Mohammed(and Adeosun) in the studio for an interview. I just went to my dstv remote control,scrolled to Disney Junior(my kids favourite channel) and set a reminder for a cartoon program for 6pm. Immediately,it was 6pm,the channel switched to Disney junior and my kids were happy,I just walked into my room to watch sports on startimes. I can't afford to have my intelligence insulted by the brazen lies of an old man who has smeared his conscience with hot iron
