Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Dibu Ojerinde has declared as ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘illegal’ the Post-UTME examination conducted by tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The JAMB boss added that the examination body was not responsible for scrapping the exercise adding that it was cancelled by the Minister of Education after due consultation.

He said these while featuring on Sunrise Daily, an early morning programme on Channels TV.

Noting that there is a difference between screening and test, he said that the initial agreement with institutions was to conduct screening exercise to determine their eligibility.

His words: “Nobody say you should not screen candidates. The screening involves checking of their certificates, subject combination, Jamb scores and other prerequisites to ensure that they meet up with the requirement. It is screening, not test.

“What government asked them to do right from the beginning is screening and not test. Former President Obasanjo said this when he was in power; ‘I did not ask you to conduct another exam, all I say is screen the candidates before they come in’ and that exactly is what the minister is talking about.”

Quoting some sections of the constitution, Ojerinde stressed further that the exercise is unconstitutional and has no legal basis.

“According to section 5, sub-section 1A of the constitution, the general control for the conduct of matriculation examination for admission into all the universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education or whatever name called is vested in JAMB.

“Section 5, sub-section 2 also states; the board shall be responsible for determining matriculation requirements and conducting examination leading to undergraduate admission and also for admission into National Dipoma and National Certificate in Education, NCE.”

Ojerinde said that a uniform screening process will soon be developed.

Nigeria is the most confused, clueless and stupid country I know of. Whenever we encounter a problem or inefficiency or corruption in a system, instead of fixing that system, we create another lever of inefficiency and corruption to compound the initial problem!

We say WAEC was not good enough because of inefficiency and corruption, so we created NECO, another stratum of inefficiency and corruption creating more problem. Today, NECO is even worse than WAEC.
We say JAMB was not good enough, so we created post UTME, another level of corruption and exploitation. Yet post UTME is riddled with even more corruption and has not solved any problem!

Fix the problem where and when you find it, do not create another source for more problems!

SCRAPPING OF POST UTME - POINT TO NOTE
1. No Institution will go below the JAMB 180 benchmark, Universities can go above it
2. All Candidate given admission must be from JAMB
3. No University should exceed its admission capacity (allocation)
4. There won’t be any written Post-UTME, but Institutions are allowed to screen its candidates. School may adopt to use Verification of result or Oral Interview as it screening option

BELIEVE IT OR NOT
Post UTME or No Post UTME, going by the number of candidates that applied and pass jamb exam, the Federal and State Universities in Nigeria, cannot give admission to all qualified candidate due to it carrying Capacity.
This lead/give rise to further Methods of Screening.

School may adopt to use verification of result, Oral Interview or CBT

Verification of result:
This entails checking of your O,level (WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB) grade with a combination of sharp increase in departmental cut-off mark to accommodate only the candidate its admission capacity can take.

Oral Interview:
A platform for you to meet with someone who represents the school (A complete stranger) also known as the interviewer- He/she asked your several question to show off a side of your personality that is not obvious on the written jamb cbt.
College interviews can be stressful; especially when you consider that you have less than 20minutes to impress a complete stranger.

Answer:- They are various programme run by Universities, Polytechnics and College of Education that does not require jamb form, the programme range from part-time, spat, nursing, school of marine, diploma, jupeb, predegree.
If you wish to obtain a degree result, to the best of my knowledge, Part-Time and JUPEB Programme run by Universities can only offer you that, Polytechnic and School of marine do award OND result, which you can later used to obtain jamb direct entry into University, but you

Nigeria Government can be iritating at time sha! No post ume and loads of schools are requesting for screening fee! How on earth will universities admit we direct entry candidate? Somebody should pls help

I think the cancellation is a great ideal. Students facing jamb stress and post-ume stress do not worth it. But it would have been better if only jamb was scramped and not post-ume.

The advent of Post UTME has made people forget how Jamb works. I think JAMB controlling admission is still better. There always was the option for supplementary forms so the school can still take in more students.

After 3 hours, JAMB flashed me with a depressing 204. I seem so frustrated and I nearly go insane. What a cruel twist of fate, I seem to be caught in a bad wind. Where must I go? I who wander this waste land in search of my better self.
When Post Utme was introduced in 2004, no intelligent authorities noticed it then. It must have been heavily snowing in Nigeria for fourteen years, leaving every one myopic; including Mr. Dibu. Suddenly, there is an unpredictable and drastic awakening from the abyss of obscurity. The fog is gone, and every hibernating authority is claiming supremacy. Jumping Jehoshaphat! What a recalcitrant homo sapiens. It seems like a reverse insanity...

It should as a matter of fact be jamb that should be scrapped and dibu arrested.

Hello sir!
I'm an academician and I'll say the last JAMB exam was absolute nonsense. It was a disaster. I know a student who scored 290. Nobody including himself believed he earned that score. There are students who scored below 200 that by all means should score more than that.
I reiterate that JAMB with Dibu as the head should be scrapped.

We all know the obvious disconnect between policies made by our leaders and real life events.The scrapping of post UTME is an example.
