Dear People of Nairaland,

I am a natural born Turkish Citizen from a Turkish mother and a Turkish father, currently living in Turkey. I have been reading your forum for more than 2 months and now I have decided to become a member. I am very interested in other countries opinions towards Turkey, Turkish People and Europe. I am also interested in other countries in other continents. I've never been out of Europe in my life but visited most of the European countries. Nairaland which is foreign for me is the only platform I've read so far. When i read Nairaland, I saw that some of the people here are asking for information about Turkey and Turkish people. So, I am here to answer any of your questions about Turkey, Turkish people, travel to turkey, Turkish life style, Turkish cuisine, Turkish work life, pay-checks in Turkey, apartment conditions in Turkey, Turkish universities, European Union(actually Turkey is still a candidate country but I am eligible to answer) etc. You can ask whatever you want. I can answer them If I have knowledge. And I may ask you some questions about you and your country or travel if the conversation goes there. Please ask something, ready to answer. Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Turco(actually I've never used such a nickname in my life but it is the only nickname which comes to my mind here)

But we can always search the Internet with you listed below. Is there anything else you wanna share with Us. wink

Hey back! I am Turco. I couldn't understand why it is written ''you cannot do it now, try again in a few hours'' when I tried to reply any comment in my Turco account. I'll be very glad If any of the moderators can help me. So, I thought it is something about my account and I've created another account to try and It somehow worked. I'd like to use my account as Turco, I just don't know how to write in that account.

Anyway, just tell me what you'd like me to share? wink

Well, It actually depends on your qualification. What kind of education you had? For an example If you have a medical degree and can pass the equivalence exam which regulated by Ministry of Health and Higher Education Council you can work as a doctor regardless your Identity and can earn more than 9000 Turkish Lira(TRY) which equals to 3000 US Dollars in a month. In the other hand I have a friend who is from Kenya and has a English language certificate and teaching English in a private course and earning around 2000 Lira which is equals to 700 US Dollars in a month. But if you don't have any diploma there isn't much to do. You can work in a factory or shop but they don't earn good enough, not more than 1000 Turkish Lira which equals to 300 US Dollars. You can also start your own business If you have papers to do it. There is also good money If you can success.

Most of the African nationals here sell watches. They earn 10 Turkish Lira which equal to 3 US Dollars per watch as profit. Your daily profit depends on how many watches you sell. Turkish people are actually very friendly to Africans if you compare to Asians. If they work on their own business noone have problem with them. African people mostly watch sellers seen as honorable, proud, dignified by Turkish people. They start their own business and pay their rent, bills etc. Even Police does not care about Africans just let them do their business. I have never seen or read any news about bad things about Africans.

But in rural ares, people can be curious. They may ask you questions about anything. It can be about your country, your hair etc. It isn't about any kind of racism, just they're curious about you.

And if you work in factory or construction you get paid weekly, work in private company paid monthly on 1st, work in a diploma required job they pay you whenever you want-however you want on 15th.

Dear guy007, thank you for your kindness and warm welcome. Well it is a bit difficult question because Turkey has a lot of industry branches. Consumer electronics and home appliances, motor vehicles and automotive parts, multiple train units-locomotives and wagons, textiles and clothing, shipbuilding, defense industry e.g. Apart from manufacturing industry, service sector is very developed. Transporting(Turkish Airlines), communications(Turkish Telecom, Turkcell, Avea), tourism sector, financial sector e.g. But if you ask what international trade is Turkey known for, it also depends on continent. Turkey is well known in home appliances and electronics(especially in Nordic countries) and motor vehicles and automotive parts in Europe, textiles and clothing in Africa, defense industry in Middle East and shipbuilding in Americas(both north and south).

Turkey has crude oil refineries and oil and gas business. Actually country's 3 of Top 5 companies work in this field. Tüpraş Refineries was founded in 1983 by the Turkish government in order to gather all refineries companies under one roof, and it has many refineries in many places like Kirrikale, Batman, Aliaga, and Kocaeli. It is the most valuable company in Turkey. Botaş Petroleum Pipeline Corporation was founded in 1976, considered one of the companies also managed by the government. Botaş is considered also one of the biggest companies in Turkey, where it ranked second on “Fortune Turkey’s 500” list with a total sales revenue of 37.464 billion Turkish Lira which is equal to 13 billion US Dollars in July, 2016. It also owns and operates the national gas grid of Turkey with total length of 4,500 kilometers. Third one is OMV Petrol Ofisi which was founded in 1941 as a shareholding company in business activities in the petroleum and petroleum products sector and the company is headquartered in the Austrian capital Vienna. The company owns 2,500 petrol stations, 10 gas stations, and two liquefied natural gas, and 31 packaging units for jet fuel. It sponsors sports such as car racing (GP2), rallying, offshore speedboat racing, karting etc.

Well, under the light of these informations you may find the answer I think. Unfortunately, I am not very informed about supply chain business. You're the specialist. wink

Well, it is a bit comprehensive question which is how's life generally in Turkey. It is definitely depends on how much money you're earning. Just like anywhere on the world. For a rich person it can be a dream life, living in Turkey. If you don't have job and have to get your unemployment salary it can be difficult unless you find a job. But overall, it is quite good to live in here if you compare other parts of the world. Of course in Nordic countries or very well developed countries like Germany or Canada life can be easier for people but it is reality that we're not in a bad situation. Only thing about Turkey is life can be expensive sometimes and it can be difficult to maintain living costs and we're a bit crowded, population is more than 70 millions.

If you're a citizen and qualified enough, there will be no problem to find a job here. Yes in the beginning they will pay you not enough money to buy a car or house but things get better and better while you're working. It is possible you may try to find job for months but I think it is the same everywhere for one with a degree. Minimum salary is 1300 Turkish Lira(TRY) which is equal to 450 US Dollars monthly. It is the salary for featureless jobs. An engineer who has no experience can earn around 2000 Turkish Lira(TRY) which is equal to 700 US Dollars but in the other hand if you're a experienced and qualified engineer you can earn around 10000-15000 Turkish Lira(TRY) which is equal to 3300-5500 US Dollars. But I heard some refugees or foreigners are working for less than minimum salary.

Social life is quite great If you know what you looking for. It is a free country where you can find whatever you find. If you like night-life there is everything for you. If you're person who likes quiet life there is also everything for you. Most cities ''sleep'' around 10pm at night but metropolitan cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Izmır or Antalya life never gets stop. There are numberless of cafes, restaurants etc in country. Entertainment sector is quite developed. But if you'll be in rural are I don't think you'll have many choices.

Police? Well, I think you asked this question because you're a foreigner and you wondered what you can encounter. I've spoke to police 2 times in my life. One was about my passport, I renewed it and other one when I had an traffic accident. They came to file my complaint and they were traffic police. Police work 7/24 and during daytime they patrol cities. You can contact them via 155 Police Emergency Line and they're very knowledgable about their job. As a normal citizen I don't think you'll see any of the special forces or riot police in your life if you don't involve in any protests. Apart from these as a foreigner I don't think you'll have any trouble if you are not in any ''bad'' business. They are very strict about it as I know and you may have real hard time. There is an African watch sell on the city square of where I live and he is there every single day. I am %100 sure that he has no work permit but I didn't see he had any problem. Maybe he had but I didn't see it, I am not sure about it. At the port of arrival, you'll see both Immigration officials and Police and they will ask you multiple questions and examine your documents. If you're just a tourist and don't look for immigration I don't think you'll have problem either.

Living conditions are quite good. Major heating source is natural power in all around country and you pay your bills monthly. All country has water and electricity lines and there is no problem about it. You pay your bills monthly either. Internet is quite fast and you can buy fiber-optic wireless internet. There are 3 main mobile phone operators and serving 4G. Cost for one pack of sliced bread at market is 3 Turkish Lira(TRY) which is equal to 1,2 US Dollars and 1 Turkish Lira which is equal to almost 0,40 US Dollars at bakery. I don't know what to write else about this subject. Maybe you can specify your question.

We're not a flat country and land is extremely expensive. So we don't live in houses here. We live in apartment buildings in flats. Rents are expensive. Condition of flat depends on how much money you can pay. In case of any problem about your flat you can contact your owner or municipality. All flats have to have their infrastructure so there is no problem about it. But conditions really showing changes from flat to flat. There are brand new flats and some 50 years old flats.

You can ask me more If you'd like to.
