would you date the help?

For women who work in an office, would you feel comfortable dating the men that work around the office, maintaining it? Like the janitorial staff, trash picker uppers, painters, movers, etc? If you would / do / did, how would you handle parading them to the rest of your co-workers?

You're right!

What do you think about two degree holders in a power struggle?

very true ..some couples are like dat but i fink itz really silly. Of course, jealously slips in once in a while but if i were dating a guy who has a problem with me being a doc. , he is so out of d door.
just setting urself up for sadness/pain if u marry him ( or her sef)
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by vexxy(f): 5:11am On Nov 25, 2005
True! I think there can be problems in any relationship or different levels of status. It's all in the way you handle it wink
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by Seun(m): 12:38pm On Nov 25, 2005
Note for everybody: A blue-collar worker is a working class employee who performs manual or technical labor, such as in a factory or in technical maintenance "trades," in contrast to a white-collar worker, who does non-manual work generally at a desk.

omogenikky, i did just like u posted, I did not underestimate the powers of attraction or love.  But the only difference is, he's got a degree too. Came out of university with a good job with Lucent Technologies but got laid off during the peak of lay offs in america 2000-2001, so he did some manual jobs just like everyone else who didn't think about saving for emergencies.  I don't know if this implies but the sucker starting cheating on my ass while during that manual job.  I believed he got intimidated by me because I was making most of the money working in the office.

that is the word rite dere..intimidated ...(sorry about that oo)
but what i don't understand is that..even if u are a degree holder, why shld u ever be intimidated ( i heard it happen most times) ..arent they meant to be supportive/happy or what?..na wa oo

Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by vexxy(f): 3:16pm On Nov 28, 2005
Funny thing: There's a guy who does maintenance work for a top security company. He get's about $35 an hour to work. Some people even with degrees don't make that much to start.

I used to be a blue collar worker myself. I did janitorial work and construction. I also got started in the electrical field with my uncle who owns an electrical wiring company. He'd be pulling in $4-5k every two weeks. You also have to be very intelligent to work those kinds of fields. . . at least when it comes to auto-mechanics, electricians and the like. It's not like you'd be dealing with an ignorant person because they don't have a particular degree. Although when it comes to those types of trades you need to be certified and that takes training. The apprinteship programs are rough and demanding. It's no easy feat.

Ok, I think I've talked too much now. lipsrsealed
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by Renike(f): 6:27pm On Nov 28, 2005
true dat vexxy
but the thing is dat not all blue collar workers make $35 an hr.
when u mention blue collar to anyone...they go "someone who is not well to do as any professional is"
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by SirKay3(m): 6:34pm On Nov 28, 2005
True talk. But check the lists of our rich men today, they started with the blue collar thing, so let us not discriminate o
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by Renike(f): 8:42pm On Nov 28, 2005
because u dont want something doesnt mean one is discriminating..they are 2 different things..
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by vexxy(f): 8:45pm On Nov 28, 2005
Yes but great things had humble beginnings. Look at Diddy who started by working for free getting coffee for people. Someone could have easily dismissed him and now look at where he is. If someone goes for him now he'd wonder if it was because of his money.
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by Renike(f): 8:55pm On Nov 28, 2005
the problem is not with the kind of job
the problem is with the troubles dat comes along..see, i have no time for a guy to be putting me down cos there is a "gap" in our working condition
or for a guy to be cheating on me...etc
most times, guys of those caliber get intimidated easily and are not easy to deal with...why put urself thru all dat all in the name dat "i dont want to discriminate" or " o well, itz just a start"
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by vexxy(f): 8:59pm On Nov 28, 2005
You're right but then it's not the work you'd need to worry about but how secure he is as a person. Only an insecure man would hate on his woman for making more. It doesn't matter who's the bread winner as long as there's enough bread to eat. cheesy
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by Renike(f): 9:05pm On Nov 28, 2005
very correct, but if the guy is not the breadwinner or not bring more bread..we have a problem
and very true also, it does not matter watever work a guy does ..itz the insecurity thing
but not to generalize, u see most of this things happening if the lady is higher.
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by ocho(f): 10:41pm On Nov 28, 2005
I won't exactly say "NO, I WON'T" cos i sure do belive in the power of love and won't dare underestimate it's effects. So there goes my answer!
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by Oracle(m): 4:56am On Dec 02, 2005
I cant believe nairalanders are talking like this,
for christ's sake dont u know what the meaning
of LOVE is, TRUE LOVE for that matter.
irrespective of class, status,colour whateva
provided the two parties are matured enough to handle
their own personal issues.
Re: Would You Date a Blue-Collar (Manual) Worker? by vexxy(f): 5:59pm On Dec 02, 2005
I think that 'Men must be the breadwinner' mentality is flawed. I'm the breadwinner between my husband and myself and we've never had any 'I'm in charge because I make more' fights.

What you're doing is that you're assuming that would be the case without you even experiencing it.
