all christains are disciple but not all disciples are Christian. eg Judas Iscariot. Discipleship is followership, a process of being mentored by a master(Jesus) , it is the correct application of what u av learnt that we reflect in u and make you a xtain. the famous 12 disciples learnt same way but some were later called Christian in Antioch because of the virtue they see in them , Judas learnt same way with them but died a traitor

A disciple and a christian a more or less the same, followers of christ,a slight difference being that a disciple might be a full time propagator of the gospel and goes extra miles.
They are the same.

A Christian is one who has accepted the Lord as his personal Lord and Savior. Discipleship is a conscious effort to learn and imbibe the life of the master (Jesus) - John 8:31. Thus, a disciple is one dedicated to a life long discipleship.
It should be noted that all Christians are called to a life long discipleship walk with the Lord. This is God's ordained pattern to refine us.
Unfortunately, while all disciples are Christians , not all Christians are disciples. Accepting the Jesus as ones personal Lord and saviour is the beginning of the Christian journey, not the end (Matthew 11: 28- 29). There is the part of learning of the master.
Finally, disciple vis-a-vis discipleship is that act of yoke bonding with Christ

For the little I knw
" A disciple is a follower of Christ, his teachings nd all that got to do with The leader." While "Christians simply mean, 'Christ-like', I.e an imitator of Christ, be His teachings, life, nd all abt his person.." so I dare to say. there is Bt a little difference btw d 2.
Re: What Is The Difference Between A Christian And A Disciple? by Dovent: 8:47am On Aug 07, 2016
Let me start by saying you cannot be a discple without first being a Christian. Discipleship is very deep. When we surrender our life to Jesus, we become Christian, we aspire to be like him in talks, deeds, manners and Christ like in everything. This can only be possible with close intimacy and continuous fellowship with Him, which is part of what discipleship entails. It also mean spending quality time with the master to make another master out of disciple.
A disciple is not greater than his teacher, but everyone when fully trained will be like his teacher. Luke 6:40.

Discipleship is a Christian undergoing training in spiritual things and rendering SERVICE to his master. (Jesus ).
Re: What Is The Difference Between A Christian And A Disciple? by Gkemz: 8:56am On Aug 07, 2016
A disciple is a christian but not all christians are disciples. Anybody who has accepted christ becomes a disciple not because he was born as a Christian but because he personally accepted Christ genuinely. A disciple of christ has a personal conviction.

A disciple of Jesus follows and obeys the commandments and teachings of Jesus.

discipleship is the act of follow. it deals with master and his follower. everybody is disciple so far you have master and you obey him. but Christianity means Christ like. when you do what Jesus did (i mean your attitude etc) and you are following him accordingly, you believe him and you believe he is a son of God whom God has sent to save, deliver and you believe in his death and resurrection you are a Christian.

What is the difference between a Christian and a disciple? Are the terms "disciple" and "Christian" synonymous?

Another question should be why people use disciple as a prefix to their names and not Christian?

Just a sample, all the 500 people fed with 5 loaves and 2 fishes were Christians. By the Instructions of Jesus, the Disciples distributed the food and gathered the remaining up in baskets. The Disciples and by extension The Apostles, that is, those of us who believe in their Teachings, are prayed for in St. John s Gospel 17. Those of us who receive the Prayers are not only Christians but also Disciples, Born Agains, Apostles and Prophets for special purposes. Muhammed became a Prophet of Anobi Isa(Allah) for Quran just like that. Happy Sunday!

they are the same thing.
Acts 11:26. And in Antioch the disciples were for the first time called Christians.
The same set of were disciples and now these people saw something that made them called them Christians, their behaviour, character, their mode of dressing, their lifestyle, everything became like Jesus. That was why they renamed them and called Christian. The disciples was looking unto in everything, the way Jesus prayed, the way He fasted, the way cared for people and all His doctrine. And they behaved the same way.
NB: we are not christian because we goto church and come back, or because we bear a christian name, we are christian because we are looking unto Jesus, because His is cultivated in ourlives. When i look at my life Everyday i just ask myself 1 question, am i a christian?

well, talking about disciple and a Christian.. there is no difference in the aspect of they both believe in Christ, they are both child of God and going to heaven..

but the only difference is that... disciple is more of a working aspect than a christain who just believe in Christ and following the commandment..

the major difference is a disciple build up more childern for God, lead more pple to Christ and he/she is more of a leader.. and want to learn more deep things about God's way..
Re: What Is The Difference Between A Christian And A Disciple? by Originalsly: 12:25pm On Aug 07, 2016
In Christianity...a disciple is one who Jesus chose to ehmmm... be a member of his gang. A Christian is one who believes and has faith in the leader of that gang and tries his best to follow the rules and teachings of the gang recorded in The Bible.

why don't u read it from verse 20? You'll understand the passage better...acts 11:23 When he arrived and saw what the grace of God has done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to their Lord with all their hearts. 24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord....#Christians #Antioch #The Church

The disciple is the one that has submitted to follow and learn from Jesus Christ in other to become like Him in all things. It is when a disciple life become to reflect and manifest the image and likeness of Christ that people call him/her Christian »Christ- Likeness » one that follow Christ and learning Christ to the point the he become like HIM is a christian. Beloved don't let anyone deceive you no one can actually become christian without first be Christ disciple. Thanks you as you study the for yourself to confirm this from the pages of the Bible. Whatsapp 09028511269 for any further interest on this matter. God bless you, happy sunday.

A disciple of Jesus is supposed to be a Christian, and a Christian is supposed to be a disciple of Jesus. Some people don change am but God is watching microscopically, judgement day go long.

They were called Christians after Paul taught(discipled) them for a year. Why were they not called Christians before the arrival of Paul? In Antioch, they saw Paul as a Christ(an anointed one) that was why they called his followers Christians.
Jesus is a Christ, the Christ of God. There are many other Christs in which Paul is one. So Jesus is not the only Christ, even Jesus said it. Matt 24:24

Paul did not follow Jesus. He follows the example of Christ? Which Christ, for they are many Christs? Matt 24:24 Paul is also a Christ do you know? Christ means Messiah and it means an anointed one. Was Paul not anointed? Stop following Paul dear, follow Jesus because He is the way, truth and life John 14:6

There is slight difference of disciples going extra mile with Christ. They are both followers of Christ. It is the difference BTW Ruth and Orpha love for Naomi. It is like the Muslim's in the North and the South. A disciple has put the yoke of Christ on ready to suffer shame and learn the hardest from the Master. Some Christians like milk message while disciples go for solid meal. Disciples stay with the Master no matter the situation some Christians can deny the Master when things are though.Discipleship is a step further from just being a Christian I'm following the footpath of Jesus, becoming like Jesus

Christ means an anointed one. They are many Christs Matt 24:24. Paul following Christ does not mean He is following Jesus because they are many other Christs. Paul did not represent Jesus anytime or anywhere. His teachings and Jesus's teachings are irreconcilable.

You have problem with interpretation.

Read the bolded again and you ll realised you are not making sense.

...the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord. Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.
"Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch."
Acts 11:21-26

Son of the devil.....Paul is not Christ. There is only one Christ and that's Jesus.

Mk 8:29
And He was questioning them, "But whom do you pronounce Me to be?" Peter answering, says to Him, "You are the Christ."
