Despite exiting the Men’s Single Tennis event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the quarter-final, Nigerian tennis star Aruna Quadri will get a cash reward of N987, 500 ($2,500) for creating a record. Quadri became the first African tennis player to make it to the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games by beating German Boll Timo. Although he was knocked out at the quarter-final by world number one, Long Ma, Quadri will get the cash reward from Frot Group for his record making performance. President of Frot Group, Frank Momoh, said that Quadri’s performance has shown that tennis need more support to grow and become a bigger sport in Nigeria. “Despite the loss of Quadri to Ma Long, the team needs our commendation, especially as Quadri has set a new African record as the first African to reach an Olympic quarter final in table tennis,” Momoh said. “To show our full support for the team, I on behalf of Frot Group hereby give a cash reward of $2,500 to Aruna Quadri for his new AFRICAN RECORD. Well done NTTF President, Wahid Enitan-Oshodi, well done team Nigeria.” Quadri won two games at Rio 2016; beating fifth seeded player Chih-Yuan Chuang in the third round and Timo in the fourth to make it to the quarter-finals. 1 Like

I doubt if the poster above me read the post thoroughly because how can that such amount be small without winning any medal . Common, we should commend the group for appreciating the new record set by the player. Anyway, Weldone Mr. Qadri 3 Likes |

Well done, Froth group. Other sports deserve support. Aruna really tried. Table tennis is a sport that should receive greater corporate support or sponsorship. I say thanks to the organisers of Asoju Oba tourney, for the discovery of talents over the years |
