Morning Everyone

The days at Crystal Mountain melted into each other. Each minute, each hour, each day, a fantasy turned to reality, a discovery of new and fresh love between Jake and Maddy.

This morning, Maddy had awakened before sunrise and gently rose from the bed. She stood in the moonlight watching the pre-dawn mist as it settled over the creek behind the cottage. Jake was still asleep in her bed, lightly snoring and peaceful.

They had one more day together before she had to leave for another book tour. She had committed to a tour on the East Coast starting in Jacksonville, Florida and moving up the coast from there. Three months – the longest yet.

Somehow, she had finished her last installment of the Medicine Woman series, and it was well on its way to her publisher. She had temporarily titled it, Settled in the Night, but she figured her editor would change that. She always did.

Maddy stood still watching the mist float around the early morning air. Her mind was not on the book tour, but on what would happen when she left Crystal Mountain. Would Jake move on to some other woman? Would he forget about her after a while? Would he want to stay in contact?

She knew they would play the phone call/text game for a while, but for how long? That was what she dreaded.

One more day together. Jake had not said anything about his plans for the day, except that there was a big group coming in that had scheduled a ride along the creek for late afternoon. Maddy knew that meant he would be involved for the biggest part of the day preparing the horses and saddles.

He never went along – that was for the other hands, but he had to oversee the stables before and after the rides.

Maddy let out a big sigh. From behind, she felt Jake’s arms wrap around her.

“I didn’t mean to wake you.” She held his arms around her.
