This is a wasted generation, I have been hearing of this project over 3½ decades, our leaders believe in quick fix always. Now their emphases has changed to agriculture as means of generating forex, while developed countries are making 5 times on processed agricultural products. Instead of our government to focus on processing of Agric products, they're misleading youth to go to farm without funding processing plants. 8 Likes 1 Share |

This is really massive! Ha, Nigeria! Where did we go wrong? Ajaokuta Steel Complex has served as a conduit pipe for many past administrations to siphon money. Just imagine for a minute the number of jobs and revenue this behemoth complex lying in waste would have created if it had been functioning. Nigeria, your callousness, wastefulness and corruption is astounding. I weep for my country 5 Likes |

I think the government should . just privatize this plant, by doing that, efficiency would be archived, jobs would be created and government would have a larger tax base. 2 Likes |

Daslim180: nigeria was primary destroyed by military generals. Despite the so much money the country got during pdp time, obasanjo didnt allow nigeria to move forward. After his colossal eight years failure as president, the yaradua and jonathan he brought were not capable to lead nigeria. 1 Like |

I think according to present reality in steel market it seems it already became a wastage, reviving it might be waste of money. May be the complex can be used for other purposes. 2 Likes |

it is really sad seeing projects like tbese waste away. Oshogbo steel rolling mill and Nigeria Machine tools opposite it, are other examples. The Chinese saw the failure and opened steel mills all over the country, you won't believe how much they make every month, while paying peanuts as salaries and wages. 1 Like |

I hope we will find a way to get it right some day. We lack continuity and maintenance culture, we keep giving out billions of naira for projects and abandon them in no little time. We have hundreds of abandoned project in this country. DELTA STEEL COMPANY is another huge place back then in Warri, that people were leaving SPDC to that place then, DCS has been closed down for some years nw. THIS COUNTRY MATTER TIRE ME. |

I know some people didn't know the company was originally intended to be sited in Onitsha according to the original proposal and master-plan. Why they originally intend to site it in Onitsha, and why they later decided to relocate it is what I don't know. But if am to guess, TRIBALISM. I might be wrong though. Anyway, good investment allowed to rot away. |
